Whew! Far too many options for my small brain. My pet peeve with washing machine reports is that they speak of laundry in terms of pounds. Who has a scale to weigh their laundry? And who would want to do that each time? I suppose a digital built-in one is a very good idea but I am sure it raises the cost. I wonder if but also do suppose the pre-sensor gadget on the newer models serves the purpose of at least to determining how much water the machine will use.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: I purchased a front loader manufactured by LG in late june. In july the front seal developed cracks. LG has not honored it´s waranty in more than 3 weeks of being notified. CONSUMER BEWARE!

  8. Ramkumar Narayanaswami on June 25, 2022 at 12:11 am

Whirlpool top load elite 7kg washing machine giving problems frequently and is very worst machine, before I used ifb front load machine for 17 years without problems

  9. Cam Muse on June 25, 2022 at 12:11 am

Get a speed queen top loader it’s the best

  10. Robert Demaio on June 25, 2022 at 12:14 am

    I don’t trust this

  11. Night Fam26 on June 25, 2022 at 12:14 am

    Which brand is the best????

  12. ehh on June 25, 2022 at 12:16 am

Consumer reports has lost so much credibility for me. They give a washer higher marks (47 points higher) just because it came in a dark color? What kinda bs is that.

  13. Plutot Crever on June 25, 2022 at 12:18 am

Consumer Report you lost credibility really fast over the recent years precisely because of your evaluations of these new HE washing machines vs old school ones. NOBODY cares if their washing maching is a little "noisy". We want it to wash our clothes. Thats it. The recent HE machines you are giving "high scores overall" are silent, got great options and ease of use but are useless at cleaning clothings. The people see throught that game and are fed up with this bs.

  14. Loo Loo on June 25, 2022 at 12:22 am

This review seems so biased towards high-priced front loaders. Waste of time.

  15. Superdylan803 on June 25, 2022 at 12:26 am

I m in the uk but Out of all the 3 types of washes I would have a top loader with agitator. I do not give a dam about bills the He machines especially the top loaders would not clean your clothes properly I could not imagine putting a big duvet in it. Yes Your clothes will spend more time in the tumble dryer and it will be more expensive to run. But the agitators clean the clothes properly and aggressively which means it probably forces stains out Much better than just pouring 500 ml into a tub and making a motor at the bottom go back and forward

I am a appliance repairman and consumer reports is full of shiite

  17. Greg Hill on June 25, 2022 at 12:28 am

consumer reports lives in fantasy land all their choices are terrible in last ten years i want a clothes washer that cleans clothes best in shortest time. with my choice of water level and temp manually. I don’t want any electronics or energy saver features they ruin washers

  18. Shenglee Chen on June 25, 2022 at 12:31 am

When I do my laundry in my top load washer, I will start the machine with an empty tub first , let the machine fill up with water, add detergent and let it mix thoroughly before adding the clothes in to continue the whole wash and rinse and spin cycle, I do this to prevent detergent bleaching my dark colored work pants or leaving detergent burnt marks on my clothes.

Can Consumer reports do a study on adding detergent powder and liquids on top of laundry and pushing the start button and waiting for the water to fill vs My method of pre mixing the detergent and water before piling in the laudry.

How widespread is the damage caused to colored fabrics with concentrated detergent soaking into clothes before they had a chance of micing fully with the water?

The music is way too loud. I had a hard time understanding what the narrator was saying.

  20. Robert Demaio on June 25, 2022 at 12:33 am

Never buy computerized washers or Samsung

  21. Andrew M on June 25, 2022 at 12:33 am

If you want your clothes to actually be clean, you should go with an agitator.

  22. Liberty Garden on June 25, 2022 at 12:34 am

Front loaders are a poor design and last the least.

  23. The Phoenix Folk Club Ballyfermot, Dublin. on June 25, 2022 at 12:34 am

    Very very good. Thanks

  24. Teresa Trebal on June 25, 2022 at 12:34 am

I just purchased washer and dryer, worst machines ever, top loader is worthless, The looks of it doesn’t clean the clothes and take forever to wash, the dryer after one and a half hours clothes still damp…don’t buy whirlpool.

  25. Edgar Rodriguez on June 25, 2022 at 12:35 am

Useful info, but the background music is TOO loud!

  26. C1200A on June 25, 2022 at 12:36 am

What’s the washing machine at 0:23?

  27. Samuel Irwin on June 25, 2022 at 12:36 am

Once I saw LG is the highest rated company I knew the reports were bs. No one cares about 1 year reliability.

  28. Erik Brickman on June 25, 2022 at 12:37 am

    Remember agitator = better

  29. Darren Davis on June 25, 2022 at 12:37 am

The best washers dont exist anymore. Liberals have taken the Maytag top load agitator away.

  30. Mark Davidson on June 25, 2022 at 12:38 am

Their comment about front loaders being more vibration prone is true. Bought an LG that did a great job but on our second floor (wood) sent vibration throughout the whole house. So much that the room adjacent to he laundry room was so noisy that conversation was impossible. Bought some vibration pads for the feet. Waiting to see if that works.

  31. hal chesnut on June 25, 2022 at 12:39 am

One very important thing to do i look on Craigslist in the Appliance section for a couple of days and see Which ones are for sale for $50.00 because they have a F CODE (for failure ). It becomes evident these expensive front loader washers and dryers have a very short life cycle!!
Most you see will be about 3 years old!!!

  32. Charles Pratt on June 25, 2022 at 12:39 am

Buy a Speed Queen model without an electronic control board. Old school, heavy duty like the ones you find at the coin op laundromat.

  33. Rebel9668 on June 25, 2022 at 12:39 am

Don’t know who does their tests for them, but I’ve never had clothes come out as clean with a front loader as I have with a top loader with an agitator. My next washer will be a speed queen TC5. They fill to the top and still use the agitator.

  34. Jamamiss on June 25, 2022 at 12:45 am

Consumer Reports has gone to the woke side. Their advice is no longer relevant.

  35. Jazz Del Mar on June 25, 2022 at 12:46 am

Consumer Reports prioritizes "efficiency" –less water and lower utility (electricity) consumption–above all else, including actual cleaning ability. Most consumers appear to prefer cleaning ability which is actually very closely related to the amount of water in the tub, as well as the traditional rollover of clothes in the tub. Noise and vibration can be secondary concerns to many users, what they want are cleaner clothes! So CR gets a big FAIL in this regard.

  36. SuzukiKid400 on June 25, 2022 at 12:48 am

The fact that this video said that touch screens offer more options than those “old knobs” turned me off to the credibility of this video and consumer reports. Didn’t even discuss reliability. Why would anyone pay for this garbage “info”?

  37. CarJunkie on June 25, 2022 at 12:49 am

My parents bought the top rated LG top load washer and dryer based on consumer reports recommendations. Each unit costing more that $1k. They’ve had nothing but problems with the washer. Agitator broke soon after being out of warranty and just yesterday something broke causing the washer to flood their house. Thanks LG and consumer reports for building/recommending the biggest piece of crap washer I’ve ever seen.

  38. Mr Privacy on June 25, 2022 at 12:50 am

I’ve had maytag, 5 years later, a technician comes over and telle my washer bering is broken, it is 1000$ to fix it. I was like ; that’s what the washer is worth. He said : I know but machines are designed to be repaired all the time or exchanged for a new one to make profits not like back in a days

  39. Jerry on June 25, 2022 at 12:51 am

Don’t buy a high efficiency washer they’re crap

  40. dan yeoman on June 25, 2022 at 12:51 am

And what ever you do don’t buy the newer GE models. They don’t last for more than 2 years, and they won’t stand behind them. Better off to take your money and toss it out in the bay,,,,,,,,,,,

  41. Alex W on June 25, 2022 at 12:52 am

THE WORST issue is THE LOW WATER LEVEL!! It doesn’t adequately clean the clothes so clothes are not clean when they come out! They still stink! So annoying 😖

  42. Waldcraft on June 25, 2022 at 12:53 am

    This video was pointless.

  43. Tom Shaw on June 25, 2022 at 12:55 am

After my divorce, I bought a new Estate (Whirlpool Canada) top loader with old fashioned agitator and dials. I also bought a matching dryer with the old fashioned dials. Cost me $550 in total. After 14 years of constant use, I’ve never had an issue with either appliance. My clothes are clean and not chewed up.

  44. Kimberly Thomas on June 25, 2022 at 12:58 am

Are there any "Best Front-Loading Washing Machines" of 2020 that permit an owner to manually control the water height within the wash tub (e.g. low, moderate, or high)? I really do not trust many of these so-called "high-efficiency" machines, as they do not have enough water within the wash tub to provide an adequate rinse for the clothing.

  45. J Scott Upton on June 25, 2022 at 12:58 am

My front load Maytag HE started giving me problems after 2 years. My next machine will be an old-school type top loader…NOT an HE.

  46. Omnilegacy on June 25, 2022 at 12:58 am

Had a whirlpool and Maytag HE washer and both only lasted less than 4 years… It was more cost efficient to replace than to repair. My dad uses a washer he got almost 40 years ago still working like a champ.

  47. Joel Tilson on June 25, 2022 at 12:59 am

After using front loaders for years with fighting mold-mildew, I decided to go with a LG HE top loader. The results were no mold, mildew and cleaner clothes. Problem solved with saving over thousand dollars.

  48. Mystical Ms M on June 25, 2022 at 1:01 am

CR: you missed mentioning one of the major cons of a front loading washer… The mold issue. I only have room for a stacking washer and dryer in my space, so I am now switching back to an all in one space saver unit after 5+ years with a front loader. It feels wasteful to switch, but living with a machine that is stinky and musty at best and very likely emitting toxic mold into my home is no longer an option. I think Front load washers are complete sham. And, along with the mold – they require much more maintenance… Meaning daily or weekly maintenance if you want to try to keep the mold under control – and you also have to clean out the filter at the bottom of the machine regularly, or it will stop working until you do clean it. This is nonexistent on the top loading washing machine. Very frustrating if you have animals especially since animal hair is often the kind of thing that gets caught up in the filter. Since my front loader is in a stacking set up and there is no pedestal to raise up the washer off the floor…this means that I am nearly laying on the floor at times to achieve this task with my front. 🙄 Thankfully, I get to say bye-bye to it in just a matter of days!

  49. HarryCrafter18 on June 25, 2022 at 1:01 am

Just get a whirlpool direct drive and call it a day, u knew what u threw in there would come out clean and are very cheap and easy to repair when they break, and if you have one now and are considering upgrading, REPAIR IT AT ANY COST!! You’ll never ever buy a machine like that again, not even speed Queens are on par wit how great the ole classic direct drives where, and I know because I have two of them!

  50. Alex Mighty on June 25, 2022 at 1:01 am

Kenmore 90 series is the greatest washer of all time. 21 years and counting with 0 issues. FTW!
