Final Fantasy 7 shouldn’t be on this list. 9 was WAY better.

  2. SolidSnake Gaming on April 28, 2022 at 6:39 pm

i think legend of legaia is better than suikuden and grandia,

  3. Jay Dub on April 28, 2022 at 6:40 pm

Ff9 , the best one, nice list

  4. Azalea Ch. アザレヤ on April 28, 2022 at 6:44 pm

    where is Valkyrie Profile Lenneth?

  5. Bo Jangles on April 28, 2022 at 6:47 pm

Kind of hurt how you talked about Legend of Dragoon like that, but to each their own I suppose.

  6. Steven Sama on April 28, 2022 at 6:48 pm

tales of eternia was very fun too !!!

  7. Ed W on April 28, 2022 at 6:48 pm

Xenogears and FFVII were my jams growing up, spending hours and hours of time and all my money to buy every strategy guide I could find. Wow….memories.

  8. Paul smith on April 28, 2022 at 6:50 pm

Ps1 and ps2 had best rpgs

  9. Lord asuka83h on April 28, 2022 at 6:52 pm

I tried FF but I can’t enjoy it. The only FF I can enjoy are FF Tactics series.

  10. KuuYami on April 28, 2022 at 6:52 pm

Legend of Dragoon was my first RPG ever. And to this day probably still my favorite.

  11. Notyet Skeletal on April 28, 2022 at 6:52 pm

I loved the PS1 but can’t play RPGs. I just dont get turn based combat games. I remember starting up FF7 a couple of times thinking, "What is this shit?" I’m still stumped to this day.

  12. Raging Snake on April 28, 2022 at 6:52 pm

No RPGs here :/. Only turn based JRPGs :/

  13. Gulyás Dávid on April 28, 2022 at 6:53 pm

    Chrono Cross
    my top 3

  14. Zylo82 on April 28, 2022 at 6:53 pm

Breath of Fire 3or4 also must have RPG’s to have. Such a great RPG to play.

  15. smeagol on April 28, 2022 at 6:53 pm

PS 1 rpg is the best rpg of all

  16. PenSura on April 28, 2022 at 6:54 pm

i was expecting legend of legaia and breath of fire IV to be on this list

  17. Freddo Grosso on April 28, 2022 at 6:56 pm

After IX, I kinda lost interest in FF. The magic was gone.

  18. #magicalflare on April 28, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Definitely missed Parasite Eve and Chrono Trigger here…
Man I cried with Final Fantasy VII! To me it’s the best one of the saga! So many memories with that gem!!

  19. Zalibidas on April 28, 2022 at 6:57 pm

imo… dragoon is not a must have. the battle system is fun but the characters, dialog, story is all so so boring and poorly written i find it hard to stay interested. it lacks any charm at all. i used to love it… then i replayed it a few months ago years later and noticed all those major flaws. kinda wish i hadnt replayed. those flaws dont really exist in pretty much every other rpg on this list. id actually say legaia 100% deserves dragoons spot. i replayed that as well recently and it holds up extremely well.

  20. Artimes on April 28, 2022 at 6:58 pm

As a closing thought after watching this like 10 times lol. I hope modern fans realize the world doesn’t just revolve around "Final Fantasy" there are so many great classic epics out there that deserve that recognition and playablity. I realize mainstream folks are always going to gravitate more towards stuff that is remade in some fashion or ported to modern hardware, but serously, as you have played FF VII remake and grown to enjoy the original Final Fantasy games as im seeing a massive influx now on twitch. Take some time and really check out some quality works of art that arn’t just FF. There is alot of amazing adventures and fantasy worlds to explore on this great 32-bit system.

  21. Noctis Sama on April 28, 2022 at 6:59 pm

Breath of Fire was also an amazing rpg!

  22. Everything's A Go Podcast on April 28, 2022 at 6:59 pm

How is Alundra not on this list?

  23. Fahrenheit38 on April 28, 2022 at 7:00 pm

20hrs of xenogears is basically a visual novel. That second disk is what keeps me from really loving xenogears.

  24. Joaquin Felix on April 28, 2022 at 7:00 pm

    Bruhh xenogears 💯💯💯

  25. Paul smith on April 28, 2022 at 7:01 pm

    Aren’t these technically jrpgs?

  26. as ter on April 28, 2022 at 7:02 pm

  27. Neethan3247 on April 28, 2022 at 7:04 pm

PS1 jrpg era was the best one with the snes and ps2 tied for second place. FFIX was by far the most complete jrpg on the console with Xenogears having the most in depth story and character development with fun gameplay (too bad for the second disk).

  28. nemosotillo on April 28, 2022 at 7:04 pm

XENOGEARS is the best game i ever play in my humble life

  29. Rook on April 28, 2022 at 7:05 pm

Suikoden 2 still the most in-demand of all these. Crazy how much ppl willing to pay to own it. I still have the same copy I’ve had since 8th grade

  30. RPGaholic on April 28, 2022 at 7:05 pm

Wild Arms – Great game! Loved it and all the sequels I played. Unfortunately for me it was a rental, as it was one of the few discs I could reliably get a pure-bred Monol in the first Monster Rancher from.
Grandia – Loved it and its sequel.
Lunar – Great game, somehow made the transition and improved along the way.
Star Ocean: The Second Story – Sadly never played this one at the time… I don’t remember seeing it on the shelves near me.
The Legend of Dragoon – I think I only played the demo… and I know why. With all the great games available around that time, it went on my back-burner to eventually get around to. I was lucky enough to have gotten a loyalty gift from Squaresoft in the form of the Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack and had spent my time anticipating it.
Suikoden II – Same story as a few others. Too many good RPGs, not enough time.
Final Fantasy 7 – Pretty sure you would have been lynched if you hadn’t included this one. While RPGs weren’t unheard of before this one, it showed what the Playstation was capable of, and it followed the tried-and-true example of the best-rememberd Final Fantasy games by loosely following Star Wars.
Xenogears – Yay! Originally thought of being too full of religious symbols to translate to the North American market, I have loved this game for so long, especially as it was the game’s following that eventually led to the Xenosaga series of games. It was great near the end of the game to go back and beat on foot the enemies that used to require Gears to fight. Also, hunting down all the secrets could take up its own video.
Chrono Cross – I bought this when it came out, but apparently the store I bought it at had put it out before they were supposed to. To get all the characters, it took 3 playthroughs to get them all. It was a fun journey.
Final Fantasy 9 – I passed over this originally, it felt like Squaresoft took a step back on the visuals. However, I recently picked up a copy, gave it a second try, and am liking it immensely.

    Great list, keep on gaming!

  31. Geordie Dynes on April 28, 2022 at 7:06 pm

    I miss turn-based

  32. Chun on April 28, 2022 at 7:07 pm

  35. Mark Tomlin on April 28, 2022 at 7:10 pm

Jade Cocoon and Persona 2 Eternal Punishment

  36. Victor Pessoa on April 28, 2022 at 7:11 pm

Upset because Breath of fire IV is not included.

  37. Jude Loire on April 28, 2022 at 7:15 pm

Whenever I see a top x list that doesn’t have Suikdoen 2 as #1 I consider it a fail list.

  38. Daniel Scheff on April 28, 2022 at 7:16 pm

Can’t believe there is no Final Fantasy 8 or Final Fantasy Tactics glad to see Chrono cross though

  39. crosswalkX on April 28, 2022 at 7:17 pm

Where’s Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy Tactics, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Mana, Dragon Warrior VII, Arc the Lad, Lunar Sliver Star Story Complete?

  42. Lang 22 on April 28, 2022 at 7:23 pm

BOF 3?? legend of lega ia?? FF 8??

  43. adil khojah on April 28, 2022 at 7:24 pm

good video and very good games rpg 10/10

  44. Ennovative on April 28, 2022 at 7:25 pm

I loved Final Fantasy VIII growing up, but I can see why its not here.
Not having equitable armor or accessories.
    Gil accumulation method
Having enemies that level with you made it so where grinding levels really didn’t benefit you at all.
The general emptiness of the world map.
    Unlikable protagonist…

I could go on forever. But with as many faults as it had, its was still a good game it just felt really rushed and it could have used more time in the oven. I think they had a decent idea but they changed way to much way too fast and it really fell short. Its really sad that Legend of the Dragoon got dwarfed in favor of Final Fantasy VIII piggybacking off the success of Final Fantasy VII because LoD was a WAY better game.

  45. Liam Mountain on April 28, 2022 at 7:27 pm

Parasite Eve 1 and Koudelka are also amazing games

  46. Simon K. on April 28, 2022 at 7:27 pm

vagrant story needs to be on here

also i secretly hate your guts now

  47. Aki Confiado on April 28, 2022 at 7:27 pm

Let’s admit, Squaresoft dominated that era on RPG games. Which is why I really admire the creators of Legend of Dragoon who stood up and brought a good fight. Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Cross for me.

  48. The Bipolar Express on April 28, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Legaia, Dragoon, Star Ocean…. All masterpieces.

  49. Bdon on April 28, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Xenogears is still one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

  50. Tiago Massochin on April 28, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Final Fantasy VIII and Tactics deserve to be on this list much more than the VII and IX
