When it comes to picking the best video editing laptop in 2020 I look for 6 specific criteria in order to find a laptop that is suitable for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
First and foremost it has to have the right specs to be powerful enough to handle 1080p and 4k video editing.
for a suitable video editing laptop, I am looking for 16gb of RAM (12GB will do as well), a dedicated GPU, or well-optimized integrated GPU, an i7-processor, or a Ryzen 7 processor, and of course a solid-state hard drive.
Now there are a lot of criteria surrounding the criteria I have listed, but this gives you a decent range to get going.
The next thing I look for is a laptop that is thin and lightweight. Being that laptops are meant to be on the go video editing machines I want to make sure that my laptop is truly able to be on the go. To go along with that I am looking for a laptop that also has a good to great battery life.
Concerning the build quality, I want a laptop that can take the on the go lifestyle of a video editor. So I want to have a laptop with good materials tightly fit together creating a great aesthetic and excellent build quality.
When I was choosing my best laptops 2020 for video editing I wanted to make sure the laptops had excellent color accuracy. Not a single laptop in this line up has color accuracy under 91% sRGB and most have at least 79% Adobe RGB color gamut range or better.
The last thing I wanted to include is the ability of this laptop to run cool and quiet. This is not THE most important aspect, but for me, it is definitely worth mentioning if you are going to purchase a video editing laptop in 2020. All of these laptops remain below 56 decibels while working in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, while some even keep the noise below 46 decibels.
