So does windows 11 come with Microsoft Defender already installed? HP says it comes with a 30 day free trial of McAfee. Should I use the free trial or just delet it? Don’t want to pay for anti virus.

A problem with Avast antivirus not mentioned in this video is the lack of privacy with this software. I had installed it recently but I decided to uninstall it after I found some suspicious delays in opening word documents, led me to suspect that actual content of my documents could be sent to Avast Headquarters. As I was aware of this privacy problem, immediately after installation of Avast antivirus, I changed the privacy settings inside the program, disabling all telemetry options, but I felt this was no guarantee, so I returned to Windows Defender.

Avast not only tries to install it’s browser during installation (and make it the default), but also, each time it regularly updates itself, with the tick box to install it’s browser and make it default, pre-ticked each time. All you have to do is not notice just one of the many times it updates and it’s done. For a program that is supposed to help you not get unwanted software on you PC to deliberately set out to do just that is shameful.

In my experience on game platform Steam, post-covid, the best AV to quickly recognize new phisher links are Avira, Emsisoft, ESET, Kaspersky & Sophos AV (+ a few non-AV services). AVG is high up there too. In fact, pre-Covid, AVG was often a lonely detector of phishing links. Bitdefender also has quite a high rate of detection, pre- and post-Covid. I currently don’t come across much malware at Steam, but that varies with time and behavior.

The Windows Defender is insufficient. It does not block Malwares (Ransomware). I suffered twice from Ransomware in the PC and Laptop.

Now I am using IOBit Malware Fighter.

its annoying when the free antivirus programs keeps sending you ads over and over trying to get you to buy the paid version, you would think they were in business to make a profit , why cant they just give us the free version and shut up , and leave people alone , i have free and i get an ad about 1 millions times a day trying to get me to go with the paid version , i different from most people i dont mind if they dont make a profit , im also different from most people in that i dont like to be annoyed.

I’m glad Total AV isn’t on this list they’re a false advertising scammy company, yet is listed within the top 3 on many websites! I installed the "free version" but kept getting prompted to upgrade- I didn’t. Then suddenly, they notified me that I’m no longer protected & that my "free anti-virus" had expired! How does a free version, expire? YouTuber tried to investigate & they blocked him!

yo how do i stop antiviruses keep blocking false positives?

  25. Rod on June 29, 2022 at 10:47 pm

I just ended 3 years with Total AV. It seemed to work okay.
Lucky I signed using PayPal so I was able to turn them off at PayPal because man they don’t wanna let you go when you ask to cancel.
They were getting too expensive, especially in this current economy. They did offer me 1/2 price to stay though.

  28. William Nessanbaum on June 29, 2022 at 10:49 pm

For my laptop running Zorin OS 16.1 I was using ESET. However, it was only a 30 day trial. ESET is also ending support for Linux. Now, it appears that the only thing to use is ClamAV, but the simple truth is that it sucks. I won’t use it.

  29. Guilherme 1988 on June 29, 2022 at 10:54 pm

  37. Josh Ainsworth on June 29, 2022 at 11:01 pm

As a computer systems engineer for that last 23 years, I have lost faith in antivirus software and feel they’re a waste of time and money, if you purchase the full suite. Most antivirus software to date only catches around 66% of viruses now a days, because let’s face it, the hackers know about these antivirus programs and one of the first things they do when creating a virus is to make it undetectable to most main stream antivirus software. I test anti virus software on a regular basis and have found these antivirus programs mentioned, to fail at finding most viruses. These antivirus programs, such as AVG can also be memory hogs eating up resources and slowing your computer down. They often detect legitimate software as viruses which can be a major pain in the ass. Windows Defender is the worst and when setting up a computer and configuring Windows, one of the first things I do is disable Defender in group policies, the registry and in Settings. The best thing you can do now a days is back up your data to an external device or to the cloud.

Microsoft Defender firewall is weak, can be disabled easily not the same as other premium antivirus

  39. Yola Montalvan on June 29, 2022 at 11:05 pm

I use Norton 360 and I am now considering changing it. It’s good but it cost me US $120 a year.

  40. Eric Christiansen on June 29, 2022 at 11:07 pm

AVG and AVAST have sold user data. Don’t use them!

  41. TechGumbo on June 29, 2022 at 11:09 pm

Bitdefender just released a new free version of their AV since this video was produced. We DO NOT recommend using it until independent testing has been completed from the various labs… Also, Sophos Home no longer offers a base free edition after 30-day trial ends. DO NOT PAY FOR IT. You have better choices…

What free antivirus do you use? Whatever you use, DO NOT use Russian-based Kaspersky antivirus!!! It’s not worth the risk… Thanks for watching 🙂

  42. Politically Awakened on June 29, 2022 at 11:11 pm

@TechGumbo You recommend using built in microsoft defender along with malwarebytes free…. Prior to getting my new pc recently which has windows 11, I used windows 8.1 for almost a decade without any issues using only windows defender along with spybot search and destroy and i used to download all kinds of shit. What are your thoughts about using spybot for windows 11 in comparison to malwarebytes? Also, would a paid subscription to malwarebytes be better than the free version?? Also an interesting side note, that windows 8.1 computer came with a Norton subscription plan for the first year and my computer got infected twice within that year and had to contact Norton and pay a hundred dollars each time for them to remote in and clean it up. Fuck Norton!!

Iv uninstalled bitdefender and now just have Comodo Firewall only with MSDefender for AV.

  49. Letitia Dominica on June 29, 2022 at 11:18 pm

I find it weird that Norton is being recommended by most anti virus review websites…. It used to be consitently one of the weakest and it has a long history of shady business. They had their second chance and blew it multiple times. Something that shouldnt be rewarded… ever! Let alone giving them endtoend protection (full access to your machine). It makes me wonder about all the review websites that are giving it a Nr1 position.
