The Top 8 Small Appliances for Food Preparation and Preservation Going into 2022

The Top 8 Small Appliances for Food Preparation and Preservation Going into 2022

The price ranges fluctuate widely depending on where you live and the time of year and state of economy. Here are the small “appliances” or cooking vessels I mentioned. I wouldn’t get more than one at a time, and learn how to use it well before getting the next thing. Each of these are investments so do what you can with what you have until you can afford the next piece. There are others we will mention in the future, but for now, these will cover almost every base!

Gread video! I have almost all those items you mention. Things I feel are crucial if a person can afford them is a rocket stove and a Cobb stove. I bought a rocket stove years ago and I just bought the Cobb stove. Someone else mentioned a good water filter and I totally agree. I purchased a Berkey filter 6 months ago. THAT was a great investment providing a peace of mind.

I absolutely love my freeze dryer. I’m not a person that wanted it to freeze dry candy, I’m a prepper and I plan to feed my family with my efforts. Thank you so much for doing all you can to educate people on prepping. God Bless

  8. Connie Benning on January 27, 2022 at 6:53 pm

How are you this beautiful seriously. This is one of the most gorgeous women I’ve seen and I’m just searching ginkgo

  12. Eileen Haskins on January 27, 2022 at 6:55 pm

I’m 72, so I already have some of the 8. One thing to think about with a slow cooker/crock pot is where you live. If you live where the the power goes out often the "fancier" cookers will go off and not start again, The less sophisticated cookers go off and then just start again once the power comes on. I use a pressure cooker all the time , but I have never used a pressure canner. I may leave that for the next generation.

  13. Ryan and Haleh Mckeller on January 27, 2022 at 6:55 pm

I am TERRIFIED to start canning. Can anyone point me in the right direction to start?

    Invert the lid, nice idea!

  15. Becki Wildeman on January 27, 2022 at 6:57 pm

The Cosori multi cooker doesn’t appear to be made by them anymore. I have most all of the items you have listed except the freeze dryer. The Cosori I did want to get closest thing to it is the De’longhi now.

  16. Susan Kenney on January 27, 2022 at 6:59 pm

Can you say water distillation by using that steam juicer. Might come in handy.

  17. Ann Dosh on January 27, 2022 at 6:59 pm

Awesome tips! But for the first item, if needed and more cost efficient would be the rack from the oven for outside fire pit use.

The steamers are now close to $200, if you can find one. It is on my list. Just ordered a FD. Delivery is a couple months out. Can’t wait.

  22. Marie Frabutt on January 27, 2022 at 7:07 pm

Cast iron skillet several different size, cast iron baking pans such as pie, bread, and pizza pans.

  23. Montana Marine on January 27, 2022 at 7:08 pm

The "Discada" actually did start it’s life from an agricultural plow disk harrow. Traditionally made from a retired plow disc, a Discada is welded closed forming a perfect shallow wok. It’s also known as a "Cooking Disc Blade" "Cowboy Wok" or "Grilling Wok" depending on where you live.

    Looks good

  28. April Teesdale on January 27, 2022 at 7:14 pm

I checked the price on the steam juicer and it was $35, but I went to purchase it yesterday Nov 24, and it went up to $139.99. I’m disgusted with the price increases and this is ridiculous. It went up on Amazon, Walmart and everywhere else. It was the next item on my list. I love your videos, they are so informative and entertaining. You have helped me start my journey in prepping and homesteading.

  29. Kathy on January 27, 2022 at 7:15 pm

Do you have a runner up to the Cosori multi-cooker? It is unavailable every where. Thank you for your informative videos, Christa!

  30. Cindy Rom on January 27, 2022 at 7:17 pm

I would add a more inexpensive food dehydrator to your list. Not quite a year ago I purchased the NESCO GARDENMASTER DEHYDRATOR FD-1040 for about $90.00. It’s 1000 watts and the motor is on the top of the machine. There are also many more inexpensive ones out there if $90.00 is too much. GREAT video…TYFS!!! 💕🌸💕

  31. Serene, Peaceful & Relaxing Music on January 27, 2022 at 7:20 pm

You can make one from an old plough disc. Just have someone weld about three legs onto the underside.

  32. Autumn Storm on January 27, 2022 at 7:21 pm

I preserve jams pie filling and peaches and salsa. However, I’m afraid to can.meats, soup, stew, chili. I was going to try, but became afraid of doing it wrong and making someone sick. Iv been prepping and preserving jams. Can you lead me in the right direction. Iv.never feared anything, but when it comes to my families, friends and neighbors health. I always give jams to family, friends and neighbors

  33. Daizey57 on January 27, 2022 at 7:21 pm

$139 is the new price for the Lehman’s steam juicer.

  36. tee gee on January 27, 2022 at 7:26 pm

WOW that steam juicer is quite a bit more expensive online than the one she found! Anyone have a link for a realistically priced one?

  37. Diane O'Neal on January 27, 2022 at 7:27 pm

Does the steamer work with pomegranate?

  38. Glassic Gamer on January 27, 2022 at 7:28 pm

I have a harvestright freeze dryer, if you get one I would recommend a medium or large and get a oil free pump so you don’t have to filter the oil all the time.

  39. Marcco on January 27, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Excellent presentation. Poke berries stain my hands and everything. Wear gloves.

My two top small appliances are #1 Air fryer and #2 Tagine (I’m not sure a tagine is considered an "appliance" but whatever)
Wouldn’t want to be without either of these. I don’t use any of the ones you’ve talked about and have absolutely no desire to after watching the video. I have used a crock pot once or twice a year at the most.
I definitely use my air fryer the most — pretty much daily and you can cook just about anything in the tagine in approximately 2 hours. Just toss cut up veggies in evoo and herbs and place any meat on top — fish, chicken, roast, whatever. Put the top on and put in oven for 1/2 to 2 hours depending on what size the veggies are cut up and the type and amount of meat. I’ve put washed rice in the bottom and covered well with broth and cooked approximately 20 minutes then add fish on top and any cut up veggies you might want to add. Cook another 1/2 hour or so until it’s all done. I make veggies and add cheese at the end so it melts on top of the veggies. It’s all steamed and roasted and such an easy process. And it’s all DELICIOUS.

  44. Julie Turcios-Avila on January 27, 2022 at 7:33 pm

It’s a Comal we use them in El Salvador to make tortillas 😁 it’s a giant griddle

  45. Sedonia Dragotta on January 27, 2022 at 7:36 pm

She’s a very beautiful looking woman but a slow cooker won’t help you when the grid collapse also you can water bath if you have any large pot or pressure cooker .

  46. D'Artagnan Taft on January 27, 2022 at 7:37 pm

I’ve never heard of the steam juicer before now, but now I think I gotta have one it would pair well with the freeze dryer I’m about to order. Thank you so much for the video.

  47. Leaf Green on January 27, 2022 at 7:38 pm

Thank you for this. I think you need to add a thermal cooker – like a crock pot that doesn’t need any power. If you heat your food just till it is thoroughly boiling then put it in the thermal cooker it cooks all day on its own. Saves a lot of fuel if camping or in an emergency situation. Also is portable so you can put it in the car etc.

  48. lori grass on January 27, 2022 at 7:39 pm

I’m wondering if you had/got a cast iron large dutch oven LID or frying pan LID, and turned it over, so that the handle is now on the bottom, you could use that like a Discada. You surly figure out a way to prop it up and away from your heat source.

  49. Sidney Bailey on January 27, 2022 at 7:40 pm

I’d throw in a solar cooker/grill and a solar or reflector oven

  50. Karrie Langston on January 27, 2022 at 7:45 pm

    I like your list!
I would personally eliminate the water bath canner. They chip easily and are not even tall enough to keep the required water level above quart jars. Just use your pressure cooker. I throw a pizza pan on mine as a lid to get it to temp quicker.
Add a good set of knives and a garlic press from pampered chef. (Don’t have to peel cloves.)
