Thank you for this. Do they all have the same space requirements for depth? How deep must the space be?

Good vs. Bad. Good : A Microwave Drawer on a Kitchen Island is a very safe location because you need to lift a plate merely a few inches from the Microwave to a place for dining. The risk of breaking a dish or burning yourself is greatly reduced because A. The distance is so short and B. The open draw will stop a falling plate.

Bad : They are bulkier than a compact countertop microwave so, you would actually save space with a built-in shelf for the countertop version.
Bad : Moisture and dirty microwave ovens are 2 ways to shorten the life of a microwave oven and I’m not sure that all Drawer models are easy to clean or vent after use.
Bad : Price. You very definitely spend far too much for losing such a large space on a Kitchen Island. That impact is greater for smaller Kitchen Islands. That higher price has not implied longer life for the Microwave Oven making repair or replacement something else to consider.

Conclusion : Smaller, lower priced Microwave Drawers with a cover that slides out of the way for removing a dish but is removable for cleaning? Those 3 changes would increase Microwave Drawer Sales past countertop and Stove Vent Versions.
