Self cleaning destroyed my double ovens..GE. Had to buy new doubles ( wish I had single as replacements would cost less). New installation guy said self cleaning ovens keep them in business. Afraid to try self cleaning on new ovens. Googling how to clean self cleaning by hand…not with self cleaning features. I was unaware you could get new ovens without self cleaning features.

I am cleaning my GE true temp oven. I did not have manual and left.two trays and one standalone rack in the. Oven . I placed the dial on clean and pulled the clean lever to the right and locked it. A red light went on as well as the oven light. The clock time was set automatically at 4:00 o’clock and is decrementing Now at 1:23 and still going down. I do not have a fan in my basement. Is it processing correctly or is there a way I can stop the process?

My oven is a Samsung, top of the line, my son has a top of the line GE, both had the same problem, both ovens locked after the 1st time use. The lock system is shot. The service guy said never use the self cleaning on a holiday, the service guy agreed, sad, when you spend so much money on a stove, you should be able to use the self cleaning any time you wish. I had a cheaper oven and you could use it every day with no problem. So be careful…

Be very careful if you are having company

I have a self cleaning over with 2 different modes. # 1 is steam cleaning oven (25 min) I use during summer month or right after i did a big mess in the oven # 2 detail cleaning (4hrs) regular self-cleaning mode. Love the 2 options !!

excellent video. I have a Normende self clean oven. It is just 7 months old. I’m keen to keep it in pristine condition. @James Duff, I totally agree. Don’t let the oven get too dirty before doing a self clean. I did a test pyrolytic clean around 2 months after purchase. I wasn’t really sure what I was doing and was concerned about the smell. Now that I’m more comfortable with the features of the oven I’m giving it another go. My oven has a 1 or 2 hour pyrolytic cycle. I made sure this time to clean the oven out first. just a rinse down with washing up liquid and water and a sponge scourer for some stubborn black specks. To be honest, its not super dirty. Just these annoying black specks which are hard to get off manually. This time I want to get the small black stubborn specks which probably come from grease splashing around the oven during grilling. I have a carbon monoxide detector beside the oven while it is on self clean and I have kept the extractor fan on full and also the windows open. I think it’s a great feature to have with an oven. Yes, there is a smell, but it’s bearable. The self clean is nearly finished and I can see the annoying black specks turning white. I’m happy.
https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/article/pyrolytic-ovens-buying-guide/ recommend doing a self clean every 10th time you use your oven.

Hi, I have a Maytag self cleaning oven, I used easy off like 4 months ago and I scrub the inside of the oven, I scratched the inside of oven, now I just realized there is a self clean oven feature, can I use it now? I have a Maytag oven. I’m scared to use it since I use an easy off like 4 months ago

  8. A Dubya on May 2, 2022 at 7:59 pm

Hold on… did you say it gives off carbon monoxide??? That’s can’t be true. There’s no way they’d be allowed to sell something that gives off a poisonous deadly gas

  9. Sarah M on May 2, 2022 at 8:01 pm

It seems like it’s not worth using the self cleaning option. You basically clean it before and after using it. And it created such a bad smell and it’s a potential danger

Love your "trays" there in the UK. Hate the racks we have in the US.
We just bought a used stove & it looked brand new except for the very dirty oven. It had obviously never been cleaned. So we did the self clean today. It cleaned for over 4 hours. We did have our windows open btw. Definitely smelled, but tolerable.
Here’s the thing tho. It burnt stains into the plastic part which is at the top part of door where handle attaches!!! We tried everything we could think of to get the stains off but it honestly seems burnt on. It’s yellowed, even light brown! Seems like quite a bad manufacturing decision. Extremely irritating to say the least..

Nooope. You said carbon monoxide. I’ll use the spray

Hi Georgina. I have exactly the same oven as you. I saw that you leave the shelves in as they are of the same material. That’s good. However you do need to leave in the supports and telescopic runners. Any problems with these after the clean?

Two Hotpoint ovens exploded in Peterborough in Sept & Dec 2020, and as I purchased a Hotpoint self cleaning oven in October 2020 i am very concerned.
I’m struggling to find the outcome of Hotpoints investigation in these matters and their findings. I’d appreciate anyones findings.
Incidentally the Hotpoint ovens are manufactured in Peterborough too.

  18. Blanco Smoke on May 2, 2022 at 8:08 pm

Should a self cleaning even smoke excessively?

  19. Eddie Newall on May 2, 2022 at 8:08 pm

Don’t use a chemical oven cleaner on self-cleaning areas as it will destroy the self-cleaning function. Follow the maker’s instructions for cleaning your oven.

  20. Ashleyy Robinson on May 2, 2022 at 8:09 pm

I used degreaser to clean out the grease in the oven can I still use the oven cleaner

  21. Brackers on May 2, 2022 at 8:11 pm

I use Astonish cleaning paste (the original formula not the orange paste). Rub it on with a wet dish cloth and wipe it off. You don’t have to leave it on overnight or any other faffing about.

There is only one don’t in using a self cleaning oven:

    DON’T USE IT.

  24. Choua McLean on May 2, 2022 at 8:12 pm

Hi! Your video is very informative. I love it. However I do have a question that I can’t seem to find the answer to. So I had my oven for 5 years now and my hubby was worried how we’re gonna get rid of the greased that he had spilled from a broiler tray that was in the oven that we think might of spilled into where the fire is. So I decided to use the self cleaning button and now my
House is filled with smoke and had to use to another fan to help with the fire detectors going off. So my question is, is it normal and safe to have this much smoke from an oven not being for 5 years? 😂 I have the windows open to help too. My fan vent sucks by the way. 😂 Any advice for the future would be appreciated. Thanks in advanced. ☺️

I accidentally left my oven racks in the oven while self cleaning. Now, they’re damaged. Any tips on how to restore them?

  26. 1 love Waters on May 2, 2022 at 8:16 pm

Will it automatically Stop or do you have to stop before wiping it out . how long it runs / heats during to self cleaning process. I always had one but wasn’t sure how theself cleaning works. Always use my hand with oven cleaner. Since I’m disable it hard now ( scrubbing)
Thanks for sharing a fast & well explained video.

This oven isn’t so dirty so you can’t see if it turn it in ash.

  39. E_mailMeLater on May 2, 2022 at 8:34 pm

What if the owner used foil at the bottom and some stuck. Not alot less than a palm size. Should the self cleaning be done?

  40. The Golden Snitch on May 2, 2022 at 8:35 pm

So Step 1 for self cleaning oven is to clean the oven yourself 😂

  41. Mow Beta! on May 2, 2022 at 8:35 pm

Degree of use = frequency of using self-clean feature, IMHO. After years of owning a self-cleaning oven of one type or other, I’ve found this feature quite useful in spite of the bit of smoke or smell that can result. I simply turn on the overhead ventilator and go about with my other chores. I run the self-cleaning cycle only once a year and always in the cold of winter so that the heat created is actually a welcome side effect rather than a drain on the A/C unit. BTW… no need to remove the oven’s lightbulb. Great vid and thanks a bunch for the info.

  49. Manona Manona on May 2, 2022 at 8:48 pm

Where’s the before and after? 🤔

  50. Dale on May 2, 2022 at 8:49 pm

My self-cleaning oven works well, except where the oven door meets the bottom of the oven. This is where most of the spills occur, for some reason.
