Quick Guide to Shopping in Sim Lim Square! [Singapore's Electronic Mall]

Quick Guide to Shopping in Sim Lim Square! [Singapore's Electronic Mall]

IF YOU ARE NEW TO PC BUILDING WATCHING THIS!

The long-awaited Sim Lim Square guide is finally out! For those who are not from Singapore, Sim Lim Square is an iconic mall that is chock full of stores selling tech related things, such as PC components, cameras, phones and even retro gaming stuff! It was featured in one of LinusTechTips’ videos when he came to Singapore to fix his in-laws’ WiFi. For the locals, you’re probably already well-acquainted with the likes of Sim Lim and may have even been victims of scams, or maybe just plain ol’ overcharging. I’ve been staying at Sim Lim for years and in this guide, I’ll give you some tips as to how to make the most of your time and money at Sim Lim Square, so you don’t get scammed or overcharged. PThis video is not sponsored by Sim Lim Square, nor by any of the stores mentioned in the video – it’s just a honest guide of what I think about Sim Lim Square and how I do my shopping there. Even though the RTX 3080 isn’t available in Singapore yet, it’s definitely worth a trip down to Sim Lim Square to talk to the stores and ask about their plans regarding the new card!

  4. Jayteeex on May 27, 2022 at 8:41 pm

Tradepac is the cheapest imho HOWEVER as stated in one of the comments , you need to know what you want . Do your own research and make a list then go down to purchase . Ignore what they try to push you to buy cause they don’t know much .
A Guy tried to push my friend to get a wayy overrated PSU and told him that a H series could overclock which is complete bs. What’s worse is when I went past , I heard the guy inside talking on the phone and recommended a guy 2080ti instead of a 3080 as they didn’t have stock and he said it’s almost the same. LOL.
Go to their price list online , write down all their prices . And then send them a message or go down. Cause the prices may not be as what they state on their website.

But other then that , their a good shop all around for their prices and their service. Just know what you want .

I always go to the laser electronics store, I got an offer for 2080ti for about 1500 or so
    I also got an i9 9900k, 32gb ram and 1060 for abt 1800

An experiment of different people trying to build PC while shopping at Sim Lim Square. I think it would be enjoyable and education for young teenagers trying to get the best build within their budget.

Thanks for posting such videos Julian. Your videos are much easier to understand because you speak very simple. Please continue to find time to upload more of such videos.
    I have an i7 3700 on P8Z77 M motherboard, 2 RX460 graphic cards, crucial 500 GB SSD, Corsair TX750M PSU.
Someone scammed me with a modded RX460 on carousel, Spend a week to figure how to re-flash the BIOs. But now after the recent windows update or the driver update, my PC goes to sleep or goes into coma, while I am playing games 🙁 . I need some advice on some possible builds, scavenging most parts from the old PC, specially the 2 RX460s. Ryzen or intel, any advice will help, please..

Are AMD parts generally overpriced in Sim Lim? So is it a better bet to just purchase them online? Cos AMD don’t rly have that much supply in Singapore?

Should do a review on "that shop" on the 2nd floor since you are already there 😏

  38. vike fon on May 27, 2022 at 9:19 pm

    start from level 3 upwards.

    anything lower are scam houses.

  39. MIKE TAN on May 27, 2022 at 9:20 pm

well i dont want end up kneeling down beg for return money

  40. Mashiroro X on May 27, 2022 at 9:23 pm

    Here is my recommendation:
    1. Always do your research
    2. Always have a backup in mind. Not everything u want (especially the motherboard & GPU) will be in stock
    3. Try to get all the parts in 1 shop as they can give you a discount.
    4. Avoid recommendation from them as they are just trying to clear stock especially when they sell you horrible hardware like Thermaltake or FSP.
    5. Be firm and confident about what you want. If they do not have it just go to another store.
    6. Do reconnaissance around the shops before doing purchasing to source for the cheapest price.

  41. Alexander Giovanni on May 27, 2022 at 9:23 pm

Can they help assemble your pc in SLS? If so, how much is the price? I’m wanting to get a pc but have no pc building experience.

  42. Arrow's Theorem on May 27, 2022 at 9:24 pm

Is there a sex toy shop?

  43. Timothy Dong on May 27, 2022 at 9:26 pm

Currently saving for a PC and Sim Lim might be an option now because of this video

  44. The Life of Ivan on May 27, 2022 at 9:26 pm

The top floor in SLS should be the 1st floor you go to haha

  45. Eyes Wide Shut on May 27, 2022 at 9:27 pm

People should really understand that many stores with different names are actually owned by the same owner. Red flags for anyone recommending this place as a bargain haven.

People should also know that even if the stores have different owners, many have arrangements to move stocks around.

In short, this is a tourist trap and even locals fall prey to it. You should go there knowing what you want, how much you want to pay and have realistic expectations of "good deals". Most likely Lazada offers better deals since the sellers are mostly the same ones you find in Sim Lim.

  46. Awesomejojo on May 27, 2022 at 9:30 pm

If you visit tradepac during not so peek periods and when the staff are free, they can help build your pc for free considering if you bought the necessary parts to build one. Don’t worry they are very experienced and can fully assemble a pc for around 20 minutes with quite good cable management. (im referring to quite a simple build with not much complications in a relatively good case that supports adequate cable management)

  47. Andrew Tan Wei Feng on May 27, 2022 at 9:33 pm

Hello Julian, how much would it cost to get a cracked iPhone xs screen repaired? so as not to be scammed. Thanks!

  48. Toy's4Me // on May 27, 2022 at 9:34 pm

Why do I have this in my recommended

  49. thedreamer024 on May 27, 2022 at 9:35 pm

Mine’s at Pc Themes (4th floor), not too bad, still working really well after a $1000 upgrade.
