How to get the BEST Crispy Chicken Wings! | Oven Baked Chicken Wings Recipe

The crispiest chicken wings baked in the oven. The skin is deliciously crisp and salty, with tender meat on the inside. No deep frying required!

Smother in sauce (yes, they still stay crisp even with the sauce on) to make bbq wings, buffalo wings or sticky Asian-inspired wings. Or eat as they are – they’re totally moreish without any sauce!

Free printable recipe is available on our site: https://www.kitchensanctuary.com/crispy-baked-chicken-wings/

Crispy Chicken Wings Ingredients:
2.2 lbs (1 kg) chicken wings
2 level tbsp aluminium-free baking powder (It has to be baking powder NOT baking soda – see further notes on baking powder below
½ tsp salt make sure it’s regular table salt
½ tsp pepper

Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 120C/250F and place a rack on a large baking tray.

2. Cut each wing at the joint so you have a mini wing and a drumette.

3. Dry the wings with paper towels, then place in a large bowl and add the baking powder, salt and pepper. Toss to combine. Note – it’s important to dry the wings first so they only get a light coating.

4. Place in a single layer on the rack, skin side up. It’s fine for them to be touching. Discard any remaining coating once tossed together.

5. Place on the lower shelf of the oven for 30 minutes.

6. After 30 minutes, turn the oven up to 220C/425F and rotate the tray for even cooking. Cook for a further 45-50 minutes until the wings are lightly golden and crispy.

7. Take out of the oven to cool slightly before serving.

  8. Roberta Hubert on April 30, 2022 at 7:51 pm

  9. Magnolia Flowers on April 30, 2022 at 7:51 pm

This is one of the WORST recipes on all of YouTube. 2 tablespoons of baking powder is way too much. 30 minutes at 250 degrees and then 45 minutes at 425 degrees will give you very dried out wings. DO NOT USE THIS RECIPE. I reduced the baking powder to 1 tablespoon and did the time they suggested. They were a nightmare.

  12. Guaro Game on April 30, 2022 at 7:58 pm

This is the worst methode i ever see… you have to learn to cook and start a real job. 40 minutes at 220° after a pre cooking ??? this is a nonsense…

What is the first oven temp??

  15. 68tri1 on April 30, 2022 at 8:03 pm

After coating the wings you say to put them on the low rack of the oven for 30 minutes before moving to middle rack and turning oven up to 425F. What should the oven be set to for the first 30 minutes before turning up to 425F? I’m looking forward to trying this recipe out. Thanks

  16. Stay Tight on April 30, 2022 at 8:04 pm

Do the same recipe but add 1 tablespoon of corn starch😉 also drop the temp of the oven by 10 degrees 2 prevent burn.
    Your welcome

  22. Greg C. on April 30, 2022 at 8:07 pm

I’m missing something: what is the initial temperature on the low rack?

  23. Andrew Leavitt on April 30, 2022 at 8:08 pm

You will be happier if you spray the rack with cooking oil so the wings don’t stick to the metal. And don’t just rotate the trays — flip the chicken over for best color

  28. Roy Gurn on April 30, 2022 at 8:15 pm

You don’t say the what temp was when you first put the wings in the oven

  29. Coco2721 on April 30, 2022 at 8:16 pm

I’m currently making wings, using this recipe. I don’t think I can eat them, cutting the wings made me so sad and I kept crying and apologizing to the chickens. My kids think I’ve gone crazy 🤪… Im sure my kids will enjoy them though 😀

Great recipe! Came out super crispy on the outside. Tossed them in some barbecue and buffalo sauce after they were done cooking. Yummy

  32. GenMyth on April 30, 2022 at 8:19 pm

Can you use regular flour instead of baking powder?

  33. Dr. Catholic Guilt on April 30, 2022 at 8:21 pm

Super. I’ll just buy a 5 grand oven and follow the recipe……

For anyone in a different situation. ….
    1. Season the underside meat.
    2. Place on a tray. Skin side up
    3. Salt the skin. (This will draw out the moisture)
    4. Cook @ 180°C for 20 mins
    5. Take out and let cool. The meat will reabsorb its juices and allow the skin to dry.
    6. Place back in the oven on max for 15-20 mins….. have Frank’s mixed with butter ready.
    7. Mash blue cheese and mayo for the side.
    8. Thank me later

  40. Mike Diersen on April 30, 2022 at 8:33 pm

There’s no mention of what you set the original temperature at while baking on low shelf for 30 minutes. Only mentioned bring heat to 435 after rotating at first 30 minutes.

  41. mr samsung on April 30, 2022 at 8:34 pm

Okay is it just me I look at this three times or did she forget to tell you what the oven temperature is before you put it up to 425??
