Clicky intro =) <3 – .. Love the Nintendo origin in there. I was a Game Genie guy.. I LOVED the idea of experiencing the game with new factors. =)
… Great theme for a video. Guides are never ‘ending’. Valuable advice for people.

Lower budget options ( imo ) – Kanto ( passive), Monolith Encore B6, PSB Alpha 5, Sony CS5, ELAC Debut, etc..
…My first Hifi system .. was DIY speakers build from Radio shake and a hand my down stereo with wooden panels on the side.

I dunno who is starting their system with this budget.. but .. these items are not aimed at my ‘start up’.

Challenge: Start up system for under $500 .. What would you tell to a 16yr old .. male OR female .. looking to hear their Fav bands with better sound?.. They have no budget … ( also, their demographic is HUGE in social medial .. try targeting them.)

My tuppence-worth: buy a load of inexpensive vintage gear from around 1980, ideally two of everything. Mix ‘n’ match – you’ll learn so much, first and foremost the kind of sound you like. Even if you don’t find it, you should have a pretty good idea of the direction you want to go. Next, buy gear that will enhance your set-up. Gradually you can sell the vintage items, which hold their value pretty well – you won’t be hugely out of pocket, and if you’re lucky you might even turn a small profit!

What about tuners-radio sources??? They never ever ever get mentioned on any hifi YouTube channel,do they still exist? How do anyone get a radio source through modern hifi? Tuners are virtually non existent so if i want to buy a brand new hifi how do i get to listen to radio? Any information appreciated 🙏

I bought my first system in 1975 when I was in the Navy. The only bad thing was that I could only listen to it when I was home on leave. I remember reading Stereo Review in the 70s or 80s and they talked about how speakers always sounded better in a show room, because the sympathetic vibrations of all the other speakers gave you a sensation of being enveloped in sound.

I’m all for integrated amplifiers with all of the key features like streaming and digital inputs for your TV. But why are they so flipping expensive!? The Yamaha RN402 was the only reasonably priced option but it’s discontinued. Just add Klipsch speakers and you’re done (the combination works). The Bluesound Powernode is the perfect starting point in 2022. But it’s $1000.

I guess I’m in the minority these days, however, I’m in the source first camp. If you start with a substandard signal, all the high quality amplification and speakers in the world can’t make it better.

I had a specific example of this last week. I upgraded the turntable in my study system to a used Linn LP12. This meant my old turntable was going to go up for sale, however, I decided to fit a brand new cartridge first. I tested it by plugging it into my reference system in the lounge, complete with 150wpc amp. Tonally it was fine, however, in terms of musical satisfaction, the study system with the Linn and budget speakers was far more resolving and hence, more satisfying.
