Here’s a great solution for the office, or home multimedia, or a business station which doesn’t need the top end grade of hardware. Packed within ONLY 129 dollars at the moment of making the video – it is right now the most affordable of its kind. And has fully working Windows 10 OS. We’re inspecting the first Intel based Thin client by Greatlizard – called the AL1
Today I will bring you into the world of MiniPCs, and we will get to know more about this fully working Personal Computer which comes with a licensed Windows for only 129 USD. And that includes the hardware too!
Let’s check what’s inside the box. Specs are visible on the label; The model is called AL1, and you may find it branded with different names.
Only three additional accessories – an HDMI cable, the 12V 2A charger, and a VESA mount. The VESA mount allows you to attach it on the back of a TV or monitor, and discreetly hide it behind. No need to mention how great that is for organizing the cables. Of course – it may be standalone, or hanged.
Let’s take a closer look at the visible part – lots of ports – they are almost as many as on a regular sized computer – HDMI port, VGA port, a lot of USB ports, even a headphone jack. The LAN port is Gigabit. On the front – USB 3.0, even a type-C port.
Some of the hardware specs: Quad-core Celeron J3455 from the Apollo Lake; 4GB RAM, unfortunately DDR3; But that is still good enough; A discrete graphics adapter – the Intel HD 500 series. Embedded storage is a 64GB EMMC, and – the good news – it is expandable – you can add an SSD or normal HDD – with size of your choice.
I know that everybody will ask about performance: the CPU can be compared to some of the older Pentium processors; and is very far away from the way a Core i7 or I5, even an i3 performs. But for basic browsing, creating presentations or excel spreadsheets and so on – is quite an adequate solution.
I will first show you the Operating system – note that a licensed windows 10 Home Edition on its own costs more than this Mini PC – but most Chinese manufacturers use the little trick of applying a volume OEM license – which is recognized by Microsoft as a valid key and you can get all the updates and enhancements which are released. So in a way – your operating system is legit. The performance when opening most of the apps is good.
Initial setup will took about 10 minutes – and that’s the usual amount of information and agreements that Microsoft is asking about when setting up the OS for the first time.
Youtube playback is smooth – and so should be it, because the processor supports h.265 and VP9 decoding at a hardware level.
Don’t expect too much from gaming, though. Yes, you can play games, and theise that don’t need powerful graphics will run fine;
The obvious drawbacks of having such a miniPC is the lack of upgradeability – you can only add storage and USB-devices, and nothing more. But – it is very thin, can be easily mounted behind the monitor and is very power-efficient. And performance – is well acceptable for browsing, watching videos, listening to music and working with office apps. If you ask me – for that price it is a steal! Worth getting even for a backup computer!

I wanna buy one to try Linux

  3. Sergij Lashenko on October 16, 2020 at 4:23 pm

The price is incredibly good. I am personally prefer Linux in such devices because of better security of Linux and because Windows is not only a lot heavier but also window’s antivirus uses inappropriate part of resources. I am not sure that similar Android devices on ARM are a worse choice but I happy that I chose your channel to watch because you offer the best review of the best affordable techs.

Is it enough to run games in both PCSX2 and Dolphin (for both GC and Wii) ?

  15. bioLarzen on October 16, 2020 at 4:31 pm

If only it had 8GB of RAM… Yeah, I know – it wouldn’t be this cheap then… But 4GB is getting less and less enough for even a normal office use these days, and as I understand it, this 4GB is not ugradable. also, I’m always wary of the lack of active cooling, but that may be just me. It is really cheap (assuming this is the product that now, half a year after the release of this video, is sold as the "MACNANO AL1") – but for that money you can easily find solutions with better specs – only somewhat bigger (although still quite small compared to your typical desktop). so, for those who really need this small form factor, why not… But if you have space for a somewhat bigger box, you’ll find better options for the same amount – or maybe marginally more.

  25. Abi Sun on October 16, 2020 at 4:53 pm

Try the atomic pi with 4 gigabytes of ram which is slightly over $40. ( The 2 gigabytes version is about $35.) The atomic pi is not as powerful but, still has impressive specifications.

  26. Supermonkey 1964 on October 16, 2020 at 4:53 pm

Amazing! I may have to get one in case i decide to ever switch back from my Imac to PC, or just why not have both? I’m not a hardcore gamer, so i’m sure it would work well for browsing & reasonably well for multi-media. Hope you had a great Christmas Michael, and Happy New Year my friend. 🙂

  27. OoferPlayz on October 16, 2020 at 4:55 pm

  39. Mike Ashworth on October 16, 2020 at 5:13 pm

I have a mini PC that is the same size as a can of coke that is connected to our main 55" TV and it is an excellent way of using to access streaming services like Netflix, during the pandemic it got a full install of microsoft office and Teams and allowed us to work from home.

It is worth getting a wireless keyboard such as a Logitech K400 Plus Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad for use with a mini PC for use on your main TV.

The mini PC maybe low spec, but for simple TV streaming and basic use they are fine and could well be a lower cost option for college or university.

  40. WolfFrame on October 16, 2020 at 5:17 pm

I’m pretty sure if I have one of this, I mod the shit out of this, to get every extra fps 😛 (Custom Lite Windows, Phdgd modded driver and so on)
