All settings being equal, is there any video quality difference between apps?

  2. jmone on June 9, 2022 at 10:51 pm

Great Review (esp the focus on PAL!). Is there any app that will (currently) do the combination of: Constant Frame Rate (a must), UHD, 50fps, 10 Bit? I’ve purchased a half dozen or so and they are all missing one of these key features (trying to get footage that will grade well with my Sony FX6).

  3. Hrvoje Golubic on June 9, 2022 at 10:51 pm

Nice video. Did Filmic Pro Fix the problem with locked settings?
    Thank you

  4. Old School Cesspool on June 9, 2022 at 10:52 pm

Hey Stewart, I’m looking for the best app to film the screen of a crt without my vid showing roll & flicker. So I need something that does 50 & 60fps very well, as I will be filming off both 50 & 60hz screens, it also needs to be able to adjust shutter speed to match those hz rates. Any suggestions on which one to choose? Thanks

  5. My Ideas My Ideantity🏆🏆 on June 9, 2022 at 10:53 pm

Sir जी Yes, when all these are paid in $, then who will take it & filmic pro is not working in my mobile, so what is the use of all this for iPhone and not for anyone and who will take it in paid $, then I will I liked two or three too and I wanted for recording videos but for iPhones and paid so what’s the use okey

  6. PilotVolunteer on June 9, 2022 at 10:53 pm

Super comparison & insights. Thank You

  7. Deusest on June 9, 2022 at 10:55 pm

Please make an updated vidoe since alot of the apps have added lots of new funtionality

  8. Chris Johnston on June 9, 2022 at 10:56 pm

Great video! Tons of information. Do you know if any of your tops picks (FilmicPro, MoviePro, BeastCam, ProMovie or Protake) can do a 4:5 aspect ratio (1080 x 1350) for Instagram videos?

  9. Yoram P on June 9, 2022 at 10:58 pm

Pity filmic pro had no Insta reel dimensions to film

  10. Jason Tarn on June 9, 2022 at 11:02 pm

I’m wondering about video (and audio) quality.

I definitely enjoyed your video but with no ‘final product’ comparison, I feel like you left the most important piece out!!
I understand functionality, ease of use and value but I’d also argue that once used to ANY app, ease of use and value are out the window. And the reason one becomes so familiar is because it includes or is available in post to rectify functionality.
Just my $.02 but Mavis with a 19? Ouch, and as you so often mention, it’s the One app that shows the shooter everything at a glance.
From ISO – shutter, frame rates to resolution to audio levels, even scopes! All there at a glance.

Don’t get me wrong – Filmic Pro’s an excellent app and one of the most used in my arsenal as well but I lean on Mavis and have taken to ProTake as well
…which kind of confused me when you wrap up you mentioned that ProMovie may be a good choice for the beginner, and nothing about ProTake – which you seemingly enjoyed per your review. Yet ProMovie didn’t seem as well received during your intro of the app(s)

My apologies, didn’t mean to write a novel here TL/DR
Maybe when you do 2022, it’d be cool to add ‘video quality’ as one of your deciders.
Maybe even audio quality on or off device (like Mavis with pass through;))
We all know how important audio is to good motion

Video quality and Audio quality please?!?

You’re a rockstar and you’re producing awesome videos!!
    Much appreciated

I’m looking at replacing filmic pro because it can’t shoot in 4k at 60fps. What would be a good app for iPhone 12 pro max?

  12. Philip Freedman on June 9, 2022 at 11:03 pm

Does anyone know if any of these apps let you fix the ISO and leave the shutter speed on auto?

  13. Britz Glam on June 9, 2022 at 11:04 pm

I wish the apps had a preview for the users to use it for free before buying

  14. Wayne Read on June 9, 2022 at 11:05 pm

hi friend can you pause a recording with beastcam app ??

  15. Иван Белов on June 9, 2022 at 11:07 pm

Cool thanks a lot for so detailed and full review

  16. RAPA Ent. on June 9, 2022 at 11:10 pm

Thank you Stewart….. I learned alot from this comparison. My biggest issue is locking in confirming proper exposure settings for ND filter use followed by making sure I have that focus ring with having the ability to lock it in for switching to manual. I’m going to keep an eye on Filmic Pro & Beastcam to get this full functionality. Thanks again for this valuable information! 👍😊

  17. Bella and the Skye on June 9, 2022 at 11:11 pm

    phenomenal review

  18. wattage2007 on June 9, 2022 at 11:11 pm

Another excellent video. Trying to place that accent. Edinburgh?

  19. Doesn't Matter on June 9, 2022 at 11:11 pm

Excellent video, thanks a lot for the detailed info. Any app which I can use for my front camera with the blurred background?

  20. Erik Steyn on June 9, 2022 at 11:12 pm

    Hey Brazi!

    Awesome Guide!

  21. Mctoob YT on June 9, 2022 at 11:12 pm

Not fair to ProCam 8, the controls are in the letter M = manual control, it has all the things that promovie don’t.
It’s just a piece of cake to use.
Not the best camera app, but definitely better than ProMovie in every corner, except the in-app purchases, which is a big con.

  22. Ваня Яворский on June 9, 2022 at 11:12 pm

please tell me which app works better with airpods pro?

  23. Cedric Gall on June 9, 2022 at 11:18 pm

You can lock the orientation on filmic pro….. Kinda stupid it doesn’t do A/B focus racks though.

  24. RAWKUS Tv on June 9, 2022 at 11:18 pm

Filmic pro is still my go to but also love Protake. Will try beast cam next.

  25. Madden Science on June 9, 2022 at 11:19 pm

I’d love to see a behind the scenes for how you make and edit this one. I love the transitions from close up just you and phone to green screen you in front of the app interface. I’ve tried (poorly) to do some of the same with my science videos for my students. Are you filming in front of just a green screen (I think it looks like that) or are you using your normal garage teal wood background and keying that out? I’ve love to see a behind the scenes video of this videos, and others.

  26. Leah on June 9, 2022 at 11:20 pm

Promovie cannot focus pull? Tap on focus (Red base line) and scroll …it seems too

  27. Alejandro Diaz on June 9, 2022 at 11:20 pm

Filmic pro have a photo mode? Or just video

  28. Kevin Bozzi on June 9, 2022 at 11:22 pm

Is it possible to use Mavis utilizing a video recorded prior to downloading the app.
Or does it function only when recording something directly from the app itself?

  29. Roz Humphreys on June 9, 2022 at 11:24 pm

    Great work! Thanks

  30. BlahBlah on June 9, 2022 at 11:26 pm

Can moviepro be used with anamorphic lenses? anybody knows?

  31. Galin McMahon on June 9, 2022 at 11:28 pm

These are all so close. Love the A-B focus on the MoviePro but also of course need a solid constant framerate. Have you seen updates to any of these to make the perfect app in the 7 months since this was shot?

  32. ELLIOT STERN on June 9, 2022 at 11:29 pm

There seems to one thing missing and that is can the app use anamorphic lenses such as 1.33 and 1.55

  33. Stephanie Revolte on June 9, 2022 at 11:29 pm

It won’t switch to back camera on Protake when recording that’s the main reason why I downloaded it any suggestions?

  34. Millionaire Old Boys on June 9, 2022 at 11:30 pm

Awesome! But how can I use filmic pro’s settings in other apps like TikTok? Thanks!

  35. Brian Garcia on June 9, 2022 at 11:31 pm

Great review, I agree actually with most of what you said. I like Mavis a little more than your list suggests but I can see how for some the layout might be confusing.

One app your missing and I think your missing out!!! Is Pro Camera. For filming AND photography. It’s wonderful and connects with creative cloud if your into that sort of thing! I’d def suggest giving that one a try and comparing it with your other contenders!

  36. Richard Goose on June 9, 2022 at 11:32 pm

does any of these apps allow iPhone to record in raw?

  37. Thozi on June 9, 2022 at 11:36 pm

Press the "M" on top of the screen on Procam and all the manual controls come up

  38. climaxmagic on June 9, 2022 at 11:37 pm

Thanks for the effort you put into it. It might have been mentioned before, there is another promising app called "mcpro24fps".

  39. Pablo González Day on June 9, 2022 at 11:38 pm

Man this is such an insightful video. Love your style. 👏🏻👏🏻

  40. Sunflower_Daze on June 9, 2022 at 11:38 pm

I want to take nice pictures, which app is the best one for pictures taken?

  41. Jimmy Dabriou on June 9, 2022 at 11:38 pm

    Awesome content mate !
Now I have one question… how do you export the content after the videos form my iPhone is done?? So I can edit it a bit by putting thumbnails ect ect…?
    Cheers

  42. Chris L on June 9, 2022 at 11:38 pm

which ones back up to Dropbox ?

  43. quick on June 9, 2022 at 11:39 pm

do these apps create a depth of field when recording someone from like 3metres away? I want to start vlogging but cant afford a DSLR with a high end lens which will get me that depth of field

  44. Nick on June 9, 2022 at 11:39 pm

Filmic pro for editing in Resolve
Mavis and Beast cam for high quality video
Pro cam for filming in full frame 4K and photos
The rest of apps mentioned are meh 😑

  45. Mark Shirley on June 9, 2022 at 11:41 pm

Hi if I shoot 30p or 60p in the UK with my DSLR to match my phones 30p Im reading that I should still set my DSLR camera to either 50 or 100 frames per second to mitigate potential artificial light flickering. Does this make sense to you.

  46. Dennis Mathias on June 9, 2022 at 11:43 pm

Does filmic Pro have any provisions for scene leveling?

  47. Dex strumental on June 9, 2022 at 11:43 pm

One major flaw you missed here. The Mavis app is the only one out of all of them that you can Bluetooth timecode with the UltraSync Blue. Wish that wasn’t the case but it seems to be in January 2022. That’s why I purchased the Mavis app so I can be synced to the Blue with my Zoom F6 audio recorder and other Bluetooth timecode devices. It’s a big deal if you happen to be a musician or plan on using it in multi cam setups.

  48. Grigoris Tsirimpas on June 9, 2022 at 11:43 pm

    I got MAVIS . Did i do right ?

  49. R. Frank on June 9, 2022 at 11:44 pm

Great videos! Full of real information (unlike that Matt guy)

  50. Lance Rose on June 9, 2022 at 11:46 pm

I’m a novice filmer. Basically looking for an app for my iPhone 13 pro that I can record my kids sports events. Specifically looking for the “stop / go” feature. Like a video camera. What app is the best for this request?
