Amazon Best Seller? Fosi Audio M0-3 Monoblock Home Audio Amplifier [4K]

#Subwoofer #Amazon #Fosi
Today I’m testing out a mini home amplifier from Fosi Audio. This amp is a top seller on Amazon and at the time of this video cost less than $80. It’s a bit confusing what the power ratings are, however, as in some places it’s listed as “300W”, others “200W Max” and finally 150W RMS. Which one is correct? Are any correct?

The Fosi Audio M0-3 incorporates the Texas Instruments TPA3255D2 chip and requires between 24-35VDC of input for power. The included 32V 5A adapter may not allow the max power output, according to the text on Amazon. With this being true, I tested the amp using the included AC/DC adapter, then also purchased a larger power supply to see if the amp would do more power given more voltage and additional current. Find out if this purchase was worth the extra $40 or not….spoiler, it wasn’t!

Features of the Fosi Audio M0-3:
Full Range (PBTL) or Subwoofer (Sub) Output
Variable Subwoofer Frequency Control
RCA Line Level Output for Powered Subwoofers
Banana Plug Jacks for Speaker Outputs
Aluminum Enclosure

Since the lowest power shown for the amp is 150W at 4 ohms and 120W at 8 ohms, these are the numbers we’ll reach for. Let’s find out if it can perform as advertised…

    Does it good?

The power supply is total of 10A so 5A on + rail and 5A on – rail. If you can get the power supply to 17.5 volts and wire to both of the rails it should be able to do 10A (pretty big if).

  3. ducttaperulestheworl on October 12, 2020 at 3:39 pm

Curious if your amp chip even came with thermal paste. I had a few of the TPA3116D2 variants and they don’t even bother putting thermal paste on it, making it clip faster than the heatsink getting warm

  4. kevin auman on October 12, 2020 at 3:39 pm

Granted they exadurated the ratings a bit but for the money this is still a damn good little sub amp, 100w clean at 4ohm for $80 ain’t bad imo

  5. DJohn NineOneSix on October 12, 2020 at 3:41 pm

Sometimes I swapped the input 1uF caps for 10uF caps for some gains.
But of course power supply does matter…

  6. PA & CarHifi on October 12, 2020 at 3:41 pm

The Internal chip can handle down to 2 Ohm and up to 53V according to its datasheet and it should do around 500Watts then

  7. T. CloCK on October 12, 2020 at 3:42 pm

Should try some of the S.M.S.L amps.

  8. Bumpkin on October 12, 2020 at 3:43 pm

Nice bit of kit – quality from China again ๐Ÿ™‚ Shame that it didn’t make the advertised power – I wonder if it is good value for what it can produce.

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ THANK you for doing a test on this amp. I bought two (with high hopes) for making a full range stereo system. BOTH utilized with 4-ohm speakers/loads. Not only did BOTH switch off stupid early (protective circuitry kicked in fast), but they don’t even come close to making rated (RMS or otherwise) power. Both were bought on Amazon and returned for a full refund. To help others, I have bought FIVE of the Nobsound A2 Bluetooth digital amps and run them at 36v (using a step up 12v – 36v booster) in my DIY homemade boom boxes. They sound excellent, don’t kick off (but, they get quite distorted when reaching full power), switchable BT on/off and are "rated" at 160w x 2. However, the RMS wattage is prob more like 70-75 watts per channel. They play loud, low, and clean. So, IMHO, I have had ZERO luck with Fosi Audio (have tried many of their amps) and am quite impressed with the Nobsound digital chip amps. Respectively, however, whomever advertises any of these Chinese chip amplifier wattage ratings is on crack. Thanks again for doing a test on this amp…hopefully it helps others decide what to buy. Nobsound hasn’t let me down. Fosi Audio amps should be avoided like the plague.

  10. Steven Smith on October 12, 2020 at 3:43 pm

I see a few comments below saying the chip can handle higher voltage. Will you please try it at the max voltage of the 48 volt power supply. It might make rated power and will be a deal at $80.

  11. Choralone422 on October 12, 2020 at 3:44 pm

I agree with other posters that the chip amp used is probably capable of outputting rated power, but only at 10% THD and only if driven with a higher voltage. However, in order to safely drive that higher voltage other components would probably need to be replaced with higher rated and/or more expensive ones. So while the Fosi Audio isn’t full out lying the amp as a whole is gimped enough to get "close enough" for the average consumer not to notice and keep the price at a more reasonable level.

  12. Altair Foo on October 12, 2020 at 3:45 pm

the chip "max" power output is base on 10% THD, the THD goes up at about 100 watt output at 4 ohm like a โœ… curve.

Hey big dummy appreciate these home theater amp test. Question. . . is there any home mono channel amplifiers that are 2 ohm stable?

  14. 1madmaxx80 on October 12, 2020 at 3:48 pm

Need to send that PSU back to China! Should try and get your hands on a Meanwell PSU BigD ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Chinese watts/amps are different to the rest of the world.

  17. s m on October 12, 2020 at 3:52 pm

How about a big d wiz line of Amps that actually do their rated power and then some!

  18. BassHeads Of Van Wert on October 12, 2020 at 3:52 pm

Well i do seeing using it for a preamp for bigger amps Derek. I wasnt surprised one bit with the amount of power they was talking about according to your dyno tests.

  19. Mattus Apparatus on October 12, 2020 at 3:56 pm

If theyโ€™re giving max power ratings, then wouldnโ€™t only the dynamic tests matter?

  23. Tony Amaya on October 12, 2020 at 4:02 pm

Hey Big D! I just ran across one of my oldd Bazooka amps in bad condition but it does turn on and play. (I only tested it for a minute tho) The BA1900D with dual 40a fuses. D, single sub channel.

Do you have any of these planned to test soon? Or have one you already tested that’s made by the same/sister company with a different name? Or otherwise similar comparison.

It served me well as I remember, the RMS claims are 500@4ฮฉ/800@2ฮฉ and "1200w max". Big dummy math puts it at around 800w assuming 14.4 and low 70s efficiency.

    Thanks

  24. Stance God on October 12, 2020 at 4:03 pm

User error. Learn to use it BC I did the same when I got mine. It does it rated power ps if it did not it would not push a 250 rms sub in .56 cube box at all. Take it for what it is. Don’t reply.

  25. Lasse Huhtala on October 12, 2020 at 4:05 pm

Calling it compact size is a bit misleading since it has a huge external powersupply. :-I

  26. Jamil de Jesus Florez Salomon on October 12, 2020 at 4:05 pm

Data sheet say it work up to 51 volt’s… Maybe it is the problem…

  27. ktlewis42 on October 12, 2020 at 4:05 pm

Hello and good afternoon as far as I know those particular amplifiers they are supposed to be for like do-it-yourself Bluetooth speaker portable units basically you get the app you get some speakers that come out of a car or you can use whatever speakers you want and you put that amplifier with the speakers in a case and you wire up a battery or power supply whichever you prefer and you know have yourself like a semi portable Bluetooth speaker or what have you but we also have to remember that a hundred watts is a lot of power for something that small. You also have to remember what people are using something like that for if you’re going to get you a set of speakers and throw it into a makeshift case whether it be a suitcase that’s been modified or if it’s particle board some light weight wood product 100 watts is still a lot take into account many of the older boomboxes from the 70s and 80s a lot of those boom boxes that were pretty darn loud many of them only had three to 10 watts a channel listings putting out a hundred or a little bit better so for its size cooking up some nice car speakers putting it in a lightweight case and adding a power supplier battery I mean it’s definitely a capable unit if nothing else.

  28. Innocent_Bystander on October 12, 2020 at 4:07 pm

To be fair, I kind of agree with the happy book. If you have an issue, go to the seller first. Give them a reasonable chance to correct things. Then make your review. Still include what happened, but also how they fixed it(or didn’t).

I have the 2.0 version of this amp and the knobsound 2.0. They are indeed super loud. It would have been cool to see this amp tested with 3 12v batteries in series. Keep up the great videos!

  39. Bradley Gilpin on October 12, 2020 at 4:22 pm

I was looking at this amp for my computer setup. Kinda bummed out it didnโ€™t do to well! Kinda wish someone would make a decent 2.1 that does decent power. Like 200 to 250 sub and 100 watts per channel. Even at a couple hundred dollars I would buy it for my computer. Just want it to be small.

I got the nobosound full range version and am using it for a 100w 8 ohm center channel speaker used for my tv sound and it’s more than powerful enough to rip. No tone control unfortunately but I’m more than impressed with it. My guess was 50 watts max and this video confirms that.
