Knowing which home theater speakers to buy can be confusing when you are setting up your first home theater speaker system. There are a lot of brands to choose from, like Jamo, you may have looked at Sonos Speakers, SVS speakers and others. First you need to decide if you want a small speaker system or a large speaker system. Your room size and home decor style will be a deciding factor in choosing your next home cinema speaker. Budget is always a factor. You can easily go with a more affordable speaker unless you have the room in your budget to splurge on a set of nicer, high-end speakers. Once you understand your budget and room size requirements, shopping for your home theater speaker system will be much easier.

Any suggestions for a budget sub to pair with this system?

  2. Orpheus Mall on November 21, 2020 at 7:04 pm

You weren’t kidding about the boxy sound out of the center channel. I was really surprised by how pronounced it was even compared to the tiny rear channel speakers. I expected it to sound maybe even slightly better than the L/R channels given the extra size (the larger driver might be smaller but there’s two of them). I think the issue isn’t the size rather the symmetric of the center channel. Try this: Stand the center channel up on its side and you’ll be surprised to find the boxy sound almost disappears. I wonder if the issue is due to the fact that they put two of the larger drivers in plane causing interference patterns due to how far apart they are. I wonder if simply disconnecting one of the larger drivers alleviates the problem.

Thanx for sharing, Andrew. Appreciate the vid. Are you much into Home Studio systems ? I’d kind of like to see if I could combine the 2, & find one system that would work well for Recording Studio use, as well as a Home Theater. Thoughts ?

ATTENTION : This video is 3 months old ! Most manufacturers and online retailers were running big sales due to Covid/economic uncertainty . Been a Jamo fan for a long time and jumped at the $199.99 deal . I do wish that I purchased the s-83 center plus Atmos modules during this time !

  5. Justwantahover on November 21, 2020 at 7:06 pm

How could they afford all those inductors (the most expensive crossover compenent)? Not much bass still means they need inductors so the med doesn’t scream.

@Andrew Robinson As per the Klipsch and Jamo website the products purchased on Amazon and other e-commerce sites are not covered by warranty. How do you manage the product issues since warranty does not cover them?

  8. liahglask on November 21, 2020 at 7:12 pm

Great information. thanks. how does it feels without a subwoofer?

  9. Schwabit on November 21, 2020 at 7:14 pm

    Hello,

Thanks for your brilliant reviews. Can these be plugged in to a pc for a home studio set up?

  11. Nazgoth on November 21, 2020 at 7:18 pm

How would this set compare to the Jamo S805 HCS set? Where I live (EU) they’re about the same price at the moment.

  12. Frederick Gay on November 21, 2020 at 7:19 pm

How sensitive did the 801’s seem to be placement-wise, with their rear port? It looks like the keyhole mounting bracket is offset a bit from the back of the speaker perhaps to allow some space when wall mounting. Did you notice any change in character when they were on stands instead?

Nice B-roll shot of the pup, btw. We’re still waiting for our 9 month old Golden to calm down enough to be a couch dog 😛

  17. elite kill on November 21, 2020 at 7:22 pm

can you compare this setup vs the svs prime 5.1 , which is better for music listening?

  18. LWC on November 21, 2020 at 7:22 pm

Looking to get these, but can I mix and match Atmos Speakers? I know it’s not a good idea to mix and match LCR, but what about if I add Sony or Klipsch Atmos speakers to this set? Would they work the same? or Could I add another bookshelf and put it on top of the L&R and angle them upwards for Atmos?

  19. JC on November 21, 2020 at 7:23 pm

Great review as usual. I’d love to see you review the RSL CG3 speaker line. I’ve gotten into them and for the price they are excellent.

  20. MFF4Eva on November 21, 2020 at 7:23 pm

Its $600 now damm i guess i missed out

  21. Constantin Diederichs on November 21, 2020 at 7:23 pm

100% Click bait….Sub: 343, L R Speakers: 229 , Center: 229. If you add another pair of bokshelves for 229 for surround, the system cost is 1030 USD!

  22. Ascap on November 21, 2020 at 7:26 pm

I would go for the klipsch reference theater pack 5.1, you can pick them up for around $300

  23. Seth Ladd on November 21, 2020 at 7:29 pm

Thanks for this helpful video! I have an old set of polk RM7 speakers, looking to upgrade. How does the 803 set compare to the RM7s? I was looking at the polk signature series, until I found this video. Thanks for your thoughts!

  25. Astro Tomato on November 21, 2020 at 7:31 pm

Hi, Sony STR-DN1080 receiver is over my budget. Will STR-DH790 still be good for this Speaker?

  26. Sahiti's Life on November 21, 2020 at 7:31 pm

idk, i would rather wait for the KLIPSCH home theater set that comes on sale on costco every year. same price. The best brand in home theater systems.

  27. Saúl Spin on November 21, 2020 at 7:32 pm

Just bought this for my sister as her first Home Theater Speaker package… Not bad for $220, thanks for the info !!!

  28. Rameez Raza Riaz on November 21, 2020 at 7:36 pm

I am into building a home theatre but am confused between 5.1 and atmos setup. Since atmos just adds height to the sound and most content is 5.1 should I spend double the money for atmos or just get regular 5.1?

  29. Maxim Teleguz on November 21, 2020 at 7:36 pm

I was excited to click on this hoping it was about a budget Receiver. Nope.

  30. JayJay92 on November 21, 2020 at 7:38 pm

Dumb question but do you need to buy the Jamo Atmos height speakers specifically to use atmos? Or are you able to buy a different brand?

  31. Eric Narvaez on November 21, 2020 at 7:39 pm

Hey Andrew new subscriber here. Was wondering what would you recommend for a receiver to pair with these speakers. Just ordered the speakers! Very excited to pair this up with my A8H!

  32. Birki gts on November 21, 2020 at 7:41 pm

I have a nice set of Kef Q’s from the early 2000’s for my main entertainment setup i inherited from my dad.
But these look perfect for the Sim racing rig i’m building in a small ex guest room. Small, cheap, and don’t suck total ass. They look like they need a subwoofer though, so i’ll have to see about that.

  35. Alex Struss on November 21, 2020 at 7:42 pm

  36. Matt Wilson on November 21, 2020 at 7:42 pm

As an Australian, I looked these up and they are literally 10x the price here.

  37. Japoop Sabeano on November 21, 2020 at 7:45 pm

Those walnut accents and heather grilles are very pleasing to look at.

  38. Yo Jimbo Media on November 21, 2020 at 7:45 pm

For the prices they are now you can get a klipsch reference kit with sub for cheaper.

  39. TeamTNTunicorn on November 21, 2020 at 7:46 pm

Is a reciever required for this setup? Dont know much about sound to be honest, considering this for use with my ps4. Fantastic video btw!

  40. HindSite on November 21, 2020 at 7:46 pm

Thank you for this Andrew, your ability to impart important information about the product, but then mix it up with an objective viewpoint, overlayed with subjectivity and most importantly an unbiased viewpoint, except when the product deserves its bias I expect is the reason you have your audience. Another reason is your broad coverage making sure the expensive stuff that we all lust after and the few can buy is juxtaposed with affordable quality. Caught your channel at the beginning of the year, when fate would have it was looking for desktop speakers for my now definitely and very lucky to have home office (read spare bedroom). I bought a pair of edifiers which are perfect and fulfill the brief of good enough, but your channel has always left me wanting more. Your review of the marantz nr1200 convinced me that was the stereo amplifier needed, but what speakers. Always wanted Marantz with a relative’s Marantz separates being a focal point when I was a child. Without a massive space, it was never going to be a big room filling sound, and being a little bit older I’m no longer chasing that big bass either, which also meant I didn’t need to look at budget busting numbers, besides I never spent a lot of time indoors (fresh air used to be great) it was never at the top of my priority list. Summer and a relaxing of lockdown rules saw it go to the back of my mind. But a purchase of a 50” Philip’s ambilight for under £500 on amazon (can’t fault Jeff) coupled with the realisation that we’re going to be stuck indoors for a long time, my focus has switched back to home cinema. When I moved house a few years ago, I said I wasn’t going to fill the place with speakers, so bought a Bose soundbase solo 15, which again is good enough, but the edifiers I bought actually sounded better. Key was stereo separation that is sorely lacking from the soundbase. Anyways to cut a long story short the options are now the Jamo S807 HCS. As I figure I won’t need to add the subs, plus they look great and they can’t be any worse than the 803 system you’ve reviewed here. The ambilight TV has opened me to world of Atmos, plus your review of the Sony AV receiver, which frankly has had better reviews than the Marantz but has led me down the path of the Marantz NR1710. Must be in champagne and love the half size. I have seen the NR1711 for £50 more. Is it worth spending extras on the 1711. Will it be more future proofed, as I have no intention of chasing the high of buying new components every few years. The NR1710 plus the 807 system comes in at £1100 which I think is a fantastic deal. Plan to get the system bedded in then add the S8 Atmos modules and hopefully that should see me through our new life spent indoors. It would be great to get your opinion and also any advice on cabling, and thanks again for providing us all with a great public service. Thanks and keep safe.

  41. Andrew C. on November 21, 2020 at 7:47 pm

honest question: why would you prefer stereo over surround sound (aside from setup convenience)?

  42. Yashwant Garud on November 21, 2020 at 7:48 pm

Can you review the jamo Atmos height speakers

  43. Stephen Deac on November 21, 2020 at 7:49 pm

I use mine with a Denon AVR 1803 and I like it better than Polk T 30… why? I don’t blast my sound… keep it low to moderate and the blend is perfect. The Jamo’s volume is low but rich and blends where some other center speakers dominate…. it’s just preference. Great review as always.

  44. Justwantahover on November 21, 2020 at 7:50 pm

it’s a sub $500 speaker system (without the sub).

  45. Raj Raj on November 21, 2020 at 7:51 pm

Plz dont waste your time by searching all these reviews. Just go and buy bose compnion 5/50 multimedia speakers and connect it to ur tv. Most of the buyers love this setup.

  46. Nick C Gligor on November 21, 2020 at 7:52 pm

I needed to replace my 25 year old JBL J series that had serious cone rot (I will recone them eventually). I didn’t want to spend a shitload of money to be honest. I looked at every brand I could find. I came across this JAMO setup on Amazon back in May (2020).I saw that both the white and walnut finished speakers were priced at that $459 mark….BUT then I saw the black finish was going for $199, and I jumped on them!! Glad I did. They sound great for 5.1 without a doubt (I already had a sub). But just listening to music the soundfield/separation is tremendous. And I’ve heard things on songs that I’ve never noticed before with these speakers. Give them a nice break-in period with different music styles and you’ll love them. Even my WIFE noticed the difference between these and my JBLs. Best $199 investment I ever made!!!

  47. asianboy480 on November 21, 2020 at 7:53 pm

Is it just me or has home theater equipment been really hard to find on amazon/stores for MSRP, and even harder to find any on sale. People probably are tired of their old home systems and have been upgrading a lot recently

  48. Javier Suarez on November 21, 2020 at 7:54 pm

Great review Andrew – thank your sir!
Random question: At The 4:40 break, what music/artist do you have playing in the background??

  49. Darill Fowler on November 21, 2020 at 7:57 pm

Wow the price has double since you made this video. Maybe it’s a bad idea to make videos like this? Because they get greedy. lol Got to love how the crooks mind works. All about them $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$….. lol

  50. Mark F on November 21, 2020 at 7:59 pm

What’s the best budget receiver I can buy to use this?
