Asian and Chinese food is my pride and joy, and I realized that every culture has different tools and gadgets they use in the kitchen to cook their delicious cuisine. The magic of Asian kitchens, is that a lot of what we use is shared across the continent. These are the top kitchen supplies I use that help with my Chinese cooking, down to the science behind my choice of chopsticks!

I literally just got the same dinnerware set from Canadian Tire last weekend. It was such a good deal for so many plates that I could not pass it up. 😀

  2. msmintygreen on April 29, 2022 at 7:33 pm

Oh wow… Silicone sponge?! I think bc you have a foamy dish soap it helps. I’ve tried it before and hated it.
One tool I can’t live without it my garlic press!

  3. dreamhausvintage on April 29, 2022 at 7:34 pm

Can you do a video on your ali express finds! 🤗

  4. Kenny Hawley on April 29, 2022 at 7:36 pm

I Also recommend the TUO vegetable cleaver. It’s a Chinese chefs knife 7 inch. I’ve been using one for a year now and I love it. I actually use it to cut everything.

  5. Jason Chan on April 29, 2022 at 7:37 pm

i love this – more plz

  6. AsakuraClan on April 29, 2022 at 7:37 pm

I don’t think you should get a always pan. Seems like a trend more than essential cooking ware

  7. TONS OF VANARCHY on April 29, 2022 at 7:37 pm

hmmm not sure what my culture uses in the kitchen……acadian dishes usually require some well seasoned baking pans and cast iron pans. I would like to use my cast irons on the induction too.

  8. Maggie Schneider on April 29, 2022 at 7:38 pm

I got a garlic press that has a cleaning tool specifically shaped to press the leftovers out of the the openings and it makes it so much easier to clean but that grating plate might be game changer especially for ginger!!

  9. waterbitten on April 29, 2022 at 7:39 pm

Great video, I love your black metal cutlery set, the shapes are great. I love a good knife at one point when I started working and had money I bought a bunch of knifes, so many my mom banned me from buying more, made me choose 1 and hid the rest. Lol. My no.1 must have tool for making cultural food is a thick wood cooking spoon for making pap.

  10. Roger Moore on April 29, 2022 at 7:39 pm

you resemble a friend of mine so much. wow!!

  11. Nika on April 29, 2022 at 7:40 pm

I’m sold on the cutlery spoon! "Shovel food better into your mouth" is something I support 😬

  12. Loriel R. on April 29, 2022 at 7:40 pm

Yes! I ruined my always pan on the 4th use because I put it on med-high!

  13. Hilpeä Lölli on April 29, 2022 at 7:45 pm

    The spoon looks korean

  14. nomaichi on April 29, 2022 at 7:48 pm

you: essential items in all asian households!
me: >_> <_< >_> *does not have any of these things

except chopsticks lol, but only the plastic ones and wood ones, and all the same-ish size. i pretty much use the one pair of wooden chopsticks for everything.
also yes, dinnerware and cutlery, the thing that isn’t particularly asian, i have XD

  15. Kimberly J. on April 29, 2022 at 7:49 pm

Letitia, great list and video. Thank you. I was tempted by the always pan when I saw it because the colors are beautiful. Read a blog post of a woman who tests everyday items for heavy metals and the always pan failed miserably. I most cook with my 14” carbon steel wok and the instantpot. You inspired me to get a bamboo steamer, liner and a pre-seasoned carbon wok for steaming. Thanks again.

Ps: saw a photo of food build up in dishwasher – so gross it would make you skip all meals for at least one day. It pains me to say this as a fellow rebellious child – your parents are right on the scraping before washing thing…

  16. wine_for_thought on April 29, 2022 at 7:52 pm

In our house we like experimenting with all sorts of Asian hot pot bases, my favourites are drunken chicken, Japanese style soy milk and Korean kimchi

  17. nope on April 29, 2022 at 7:53 pm

I hate unitaskers. Smh. If you have a good knife, know how to use it, and take care of your knife, that’s all you need.

  18. Vee C. on April 29, 2022 at 7:57 pm

Girl I got my square/egg pan for $10 at hmart 😆

  19. lumberjocks on April 29, 2022 at 7:58 pm

    I cheated with the steamer.
I use a silicone cover, that it used for microwaving and prevents splattering in your microwave. It fits over one my pots and it’s corresponding lid fits over it! And when I asked for a wok from my aunt one year she got me an electric skillet wok….
Not really what I wanted because you can’t lift the wok off the heat when cooking. BUT it’s great for KBBQ and I wanna try hot pot but it’s too hot
    For that rn lmao.
    Love your videos!!

  20. Katie Kat on April 29, 2022 at 7:59 pm

You should rename this video "try not to immediately buy kitchen tools". Had to grab the ginger grater-game changer.

  21. Chaoticnumbers on April 29, 2022 at 8:01 pm

This was amazing!!! I can’t wait to see more Asian kitchen content!

  22. Felicia Cae on April 29, 2022 at 8:02 pm

My boyfriend is Hmong and my other friend who is also Hmong said my house was more Asian than hers. We have ramen bowls, a rice cooker, and a huge tub of rice. And my boyfriend keeps trying to add things to our kitchen as well.

  23. Sage Preaumx on April 29, 2022 at 8:03 pm

Teflon eventually wears and of course it gets in your food. Teflon is toxic; I stay away from it. For healthy non stick pans look at ceramic, they are great especially for eggs.
I think a good knife make or breaks a collection of good kitchen tools. Thanks for the recommendation. I am surprised however that a stainless steel knife is recommended. What about sharpening them?
I would say a rice cooker is a must. But from my culture a stainless steel kitchen compost pail is a must, especially if you garden. Also (magnetic ones for me) hooks to hang pot holders on at easy reaching distance of stove top. .

  24. DeeChatsAbout on April 29, 2022 at 8:03 pm

All of the essentials…egg pan, steamer and knife that does all of the important things! Lol loved this!

  25. Elo F. on April 29, 2022 at 8:05 pm

I’m a sucker for these type of videos, I’m getting old 😂

  26. Sarah Cheong on April 29, 2022 at 8:05 pm

you can sand down the feet/bottoms of your dinnerware set with sandpaper to protect your surfaces!

my big essential is a spatula with a thin edge for optimal scraping (beaten eggs, batter, anything saucy) – especially tiny ones

  27. Julia a on April 29, 2022 at 8:05 pm

I’m VERY particular about cutlery 😂 we have different sets (that my parents brought from their separate apartments when they moved in together) mixed in a drawer BUT I like one set more 😂 it’s wider than your set and it’s a good weight 😍 so whenever I grab a piece from the other set I’m disappointed 😂

  28. Purple Nonsense on April 29, 2022 at 8:07 pm

I love sushi and whenever we ordere we get a ton of chopsticks and i save them. I have one pair that is nicer, it’s wood but it has some sort of white coating that makes them easy to clean. Please don’t come for me but i eat snacks with chopsticks 😂 like chips, cheetos, basically anything that’s small and gets on your hands and this way i got good at using chopsticks :))

  29. Biologie. Inspired on April 29, 2022 at 8:09 pm

What a great video! I love that grater and your stackable dish set. Your tip about the steamer protector is invaluable, thanks!! My two favorite yet perhaps unusual cooking tools is my pelmeni maker (for russian pelmeni but it’s also great for gyoza, dumplings, or ravioli), and my sprouter from SproutPeople which is like a cake pan with a fine mesh bottom for growing sprouts!

  30. Sara Vásquez M. on April 29, 2022 at 8:09 pm

A good knife is essential for cooking! And that ginger grater looks like a game changer!

  31. Stephen Hansen on April 29, 2022 at 8:11 pm

It was funny when she said “bitch” i said I must of heard her wrong but when she said “f***” I almost fell over lol I mean I don’t care I just was surprised

  32. theresa tran on April 29, 2022 at 8:12 pm

i need that egg pan now!!!!

  33. Andrea G. on April 29, 2022 at 8:13 pm

Hand potato masher is an essential kitchen item for me. I don’t like the texture of blended mashed potatoes and a fork doesn’t cut it. Also small teaspoons for eating desserts.

  34. Lizzie M on April 29, 2022 at 8:16 pm

What Okonomiyaki recipe do you use?? I miss it since I went to Japan and haven’t managed to find a good at home recipe yet!

  35. Tammy Dalstra on April 29, 2022 at 8:18 pm

Would love it if you did a video on shopping on Aliexpress. Tips.

  37. Kris Shaw on April 29, 2022 at 8:23 pm

I definitely need a grater plate now. I’ve never heard of it before!

  38. waterbitten on April 29, 2022 at 8:28 pm

That intro is so AD, *looks over the shoulder to find a WHOLE camera crew* oh hello AD. Lol. The chinese Aunty from kungfu hustle was a G!! 😂😂😂

  39. Lisa Xio on April 29, 2022 at 8:29 pm

The light knives with the brown handles can be found in asian stores (Thai and Chinese) and are “kiwi brand” knives. I got rid of all of my American knives after my mom bought me some of those knives. They’re cheap and reliable! I have that same light cleaver and also have the heavier kiwi cleaver.

  40. Chyna Moore on April 29, 2022 at 8:30 pm

    Loved this, thanks!!
