We Tried 16 Frozen Dinners. Here's The Best One To Buy

Nothing beats a home cooked meal, but sometimes that just isn’t possible. So what’s the next best thing after some restaurant takeout? Why it’s frozen dinners of course! Frozen dinners, or TV dinners if you prefer, have been popular for decades, but some are much better than others.

Hungry-Man hit grocery shelves back in 1973 with the promise of providing larger portions than the typical frozen dinner, and while the Hungry-Man Smokin Backyard Barbeque isn’t lacking when it comes to portion sizes, everything else about it is absolutely awful.

The Hungry-Man Smokin Backyard Barbeque has two kinds of meat: a grilled chicken patty that’s glazed and a pork patty drenched in chipotle barbecue sauce. Both of these meats are disgusting. The chicken patty itself has no flavor and the glaze has a chemical aftertaste, while the pork patty tastes like a decaying McRib, with a chipotle barbecue sauce that’s so sweet and inauthentic that it’s much worse than any grocery store barbecue sauce you could possibly find.

Worst of all, while the potatoes and corn are relatively decent, the brownie will add to your disappointment.

A couple of years ago I got a part-time job in a grocery store, restocking the frozen food coolers. For interest, I started reading the labels, noting the salt content of these meals. WOW!!! These should be referred to as Frozen Sodium Dinners.

I disagree on the Hungry Man brownie, I love their brownie. I wish they made a tray of only brownies. They are better then bakery brownies.

  26. gary mathena on August 12, 2021 at 10:31 pm

To call banquet a meal, is like saying a mouse is like a elephant 🐘. This is college student food, cheap and nauseous.

  27. El Tigre on August 12, 2021 at 10:31 pm

Yeah, but all these things have mega amounts of carbs which cause weight gain.

  28. Guy Davis on August 12, 2021 at 10:31 pm

That Smart Ones Santa Fe Rice and Beans should be removed from shelves immediately! It’s not fit for human or animal consumption.

  29. Ralph Sekeres on August 12, 2021 at 10:34 pm

Micheal Angalo best of the best.

  32. Satnim Roxnal on August 12, 2021 at 10:36 pm

This is a very poorly constructed video in its design and execution. You should’ve stuck with either the worst or the best frozen entrees, not mixed them up in a mishmash of random choices.

  33. Linda Womeldorff on August 12, 2021 at 10:37 pm

Stouffers Lasagna is pretty good. I will buy a box every now and then. Salisbury steak by Banquet works for me too!

  34. Blueberry Pitbull on August 12, 2021 at 10:37 pm

I love the lean cuisine sante fe rice and beans 🤷🏻‍♀️

  38. dan horne on August 12, 2021 at 10:42 pm

    They all suck!

  40. Trucker Princess on August 12, 2021 at 10:44 pm

I eat the Asian meals from Amy’s delicious

  41. The Unvarnished Truth on August 12, 2021 at 10:46 pm

Do you notice how awesome and incredibly delicious all of these hamburgers and other food items from these fast food places look in their commercials on TV!?
So take a screen grab of your favorite burger! Then go to your local fast food place. Show them the picture. And tell them that you want your burger to look just like that!
They’re either going to laugh you out of the place! Or insult you! Or make it seem like it’s perfectly all right for them to make it look better than it actually is at the fast food place!
IT’S ALL FALSE ADVERTISING! They probably spent $10,000 and went through a combination of 400 hamburgers and different condiments and vegetables to make theirs look so nice!

  42. Christina slower on August 12, 2021 at 10:46 pm

Stop living me and my family eats the hungry man 🍽️ dinners when iam not cooking there good 😋

As a single 44 yro. man, I’ve eatin them all. "BOSTON MARKET" SUCKS! and is the VERY WORST you can buy! Portions vary. sometimes you get what’s on the box most of the time you don’t. Its bland as heck! If it’s meatloaf and potatoes, It all tastes the same, not like meat and not like potatoes. I like to NUKE all my stuff still in the box. Boston market you can’t. Half the time it’s upside down. The new Hungry-man double meat bowls are AWESOME! However they range in price from $2.00 to $5.20. Walmart is the most expensive place to buy and Food Max is the least. Watch the prices at Walmart. Frozen dinners and Pepsi are an over the top price at Walmart, absolutely off the HOOK! Walmart IS NOT THE BEST PRICES or, THE BEST QUALITY FOOD ANY MORE. Their brand frozen food was once good and the price made it better. NOT ANYMORE. Walmart’s cheap crap now competes the top shelf dinners pricewise. Now, I won’t buy them because they sit on the shelf for Months and Months! YUCK! Nut shell?- Don’t buy Boston Market and don’t buy your frozen dinners at Walmart. Walmart only does Price matching with the top end grocery stores like Safeway and Raley’s. NEVER FOOD MAX!

  49. Niajam77 on August 12, 2021 at 10:57 pm

Best frozen dinner I ever had was Michelina’s marinara sauce and meat sauce and spaghetti. I can’t find them anymore. They sure were good.

  50. Atlantia on August 12, 2021 at 10:57 pm

I’ve often wished I could eat frozen meals just for the convenience but I don’t like the texture of pasta/noodles/rice and will not eat any reconstituted meat, that is 99% of all frozen meals right there, I live alone so the only alternative to cooking every day is to batch cook
