The local ‘experts’/Geek Squad is the reason I found an independent mom n pop shop. Basically, I bought a TV channel special (first mistake) and about a year after the warranty expired, the computer did. GS zombied it back to life and a couple of months after their labor and parts warranty expired, yeap, so did the computer.
I stumbled on to the mom n pop shop, and got honest diagnoses over the life of that computer. When it ‘was time’ they slid me into a Windows 7 system that I still use (don’t judge me! ) daily.
Long story even longer, find a dependable mom n pop shop (not the local trade school dropouts) and leave GS alone!

I have about 3 test motherboards to test various CPUs, RAM, and GPUs. Same goes for PSUs. When something like a GPU doesn’t work, I suspect power issues from the PSU or motherboard so I will transplant the GPU into another system that I know can handle the power of a normal GPU.

I’m concerend how the beginning of the video was really choppy, my PC auto loaded the 4k option when i clicked on this tab and it scared me because i thought it was my wifi or my pc lol

You are talking about a lawsuit and it has nothing to do with Best Buy that was the one that was suing you??

  5. Thomas Mullins on March 16, 2022 at 5:45 pm

I think this was such a weird problem that most techs wouldn’t suspect it. Completely tearing down a PC a rebuilding it takes a hour at least and they were just trying to avoid charging. Yes, they got the wrong diagnosis but these cables don’t just come unplugged. If they are plugged in you nearly have to break the connector just to get them off.

They probably even plugged in a gpu to test and it was not requiring a extended power connector. If they had gone to actually replace the card with something comparable they would have failed and then probably thought the PSU was bad. At that point they would have either discovered the issue or simply resolved it with the new psu. Rather or not they would have tried the OG GPU is unknown.

New comment got me so upset at Best Buy I build my own now and troubleshoot myself Because everything you need to know is on YouTube it’s not that hard If you can’t find a video on YouTube that will help you fix your problem whatever it is which I just went through with bios Then you take it to a computer shop other other than that stay out of it you’re safer

  7. Jaden on March 16, 2022 at 5:48 pm

what kind of 15 FPS bull shit is this?

  8. J dub on March 16, 2022 at 5:49 pm

These comments are ridiculous, " I work at Geeksquad and im confident my team would have figured it out" yea right. Anybody that knows anything about geeksquad knows they’re garbage. To the others that said its unfair, have lost their minds. What is Geeksquads purpose if they cant diagnose a loose cable? Thats costing someone hundreds of dollars from GS incompetence. Crazy just crazy

  9. Eldestisland on March 16, 2022 at 5:52 pm

The Geek Squad probably didn’t try very hard because you said you were a crypto miner, lmao

  10. HaZmatGTV HZGTV on March 16, 2022 at 5:52 pm

I sent mine to them just needed a new charge cord, battery and the mic, I had there insurance they found ever reason not to fix it plus i got it back it did not turn on and aint been the same since. the power cord i taped back together it worked fine.

  11. Neo Natal on March 16, 2022 at 5:54 pm

They would think RAM first not GPU

  12. Ash on March 16, 2022 at 5:54 pm

I just left my broken pc to them I hope they didn’t fool me

  13. Aaron Tomsik on March 16, 2022 at 5:56 pm

been having trouble with my pc getting a reboot select deivice then at the end press any key to continue

  14. Alex Buker on March 16, 2022 at 5:58 pm

I went to geek squad today, but it was for my phone, and the guy next to me was having troubles with his pc starting, the teenager was googling what the graphics card looks like, and said his graphics card was fried without even taking the glass panel off, they’re such a joke lol

  15. Morgan Goggins on March 16, 2022 at 6:00 pm

I worked for bestbuy for nearly 9 years. GeekSquad took up nearly two of those years. I can tell you that they barely do any training at all, will hire ANYONE in to those repair tech positions, and severely over work their employees for next to no pay. The final straw for me was when they took away employee bonuses in favor of quarterly bonuses that no store EVER hits.

I cant state enough how disappointed I am with the direction that company is going. They are going to be bankrupt in less than 5 years. Guaranteed.

  16. Ant105 on March 16, 2022 at 6:01 pm

unfair to the employees, unsatisfactory video

  17. Darren Thrasher on March 16, 2022 at 6:01 pm

😆 he was wary see your last name Greg ya Idenever trust geek squad since I know more then they do

  18. Jeremy Pilot on March 16, 2022 at 6:04 pm

Check that Florida law. If they have cctv and there is a sign stating you are being filmed then by default they can’t say they’re not knowing they’re being filmed audio is a different story

  19. MCFuryan on March 16, 2022 at 6:04 pm

Can diagnostic test using a device for a vehicle to identify what’s wrong with it but not easy to find it on a PC is screwy to me this day and age.

  20. Sorest on March 16, 2022 at 6:05 pm

For people saying it is fine what they did… no, it is not fine. You don’t say a GPU is dead when you haven’t confirmed if it was. That can lure the customer into a buying a new expensive GPU or wait for a long asss RMA process when they infact have a fully working GPU. Even if it is free they do more damage than good with that misdiagnosis.

They should have done this: "Hey dude, it looks like it is a graphics related issue, we don’t know for sure without further testing. If you want we can keep looking into it but will charge you for it".

That’s how you handle it, not misdiagnosing it after 10 minutes, sending the customer home with a nonworking system that had a super easy fault and luring them into thinking their GPU is dead and they need to get a new one. Sorry but that’s just shitty.

  21. Jesse Medsker on March 16, 2022 at 6:07 pm

Must not have something better to do with their time

  22. Omega The Otter Male on March 16, 2022 at 6:08 pm

Try setting boot into safe mode in msconfig…They told my brother he had a virus and they couldnt get rid of it. -_-

  23. leon johnson jr on March 16, 2022 at 6:09 pm

Sometimes no pic. i clean the graphic card with and eraser or clean the ram or check the bios battery

  24. Gary Macdonald on March 16, 2022 at 6:12 pm

OK about 10 years ago I had a Hewitt packer desktop I took a 2 week squad cause wood no longer start They told me I needed a new motherboard I said fine cause it was under warranty It’s through Best Buy When I got the computer back glitching all over the place They put a dull motherboard in it what I suggest somebody going to get squad for repairs or do repairs no do-it-yourself you’re better off even if you don’t know what you’re doing And apparently they have not changed

  25. Sgt.GreenBean on March 16, 2022 at 6:15 pm

I want to see if the Geek Squad has improved, because in all honesty, we probably know more about trouble shooting our own PC’s we built better than the Geek Squad.

  26. SpookyGhostBoi on March 16, 2022 at 6:15 pm

To be fair… I overqualified for geek squad (because that’s a thing I guess) and I don’t really know crap about computers… So if that says anything. Don’t go to geek squad.

  27. Nelson Stack on March 16, 2022 at 6:16 pm

I wouldnt take mine to bestbuy. I built it myself from parts out of microcenter. lol.

  28. Greg Salazar on March 16, 2022 at 6:18 pm

ADD: A few of you seem to think we "agreed" to a 10-minute, _free_ diagnosis. This was not the case. We would have given them the time and money they asked for. Kyle literally had my business debit card in his pocket. Instead, Geek Squad took the system back, rushed to misdiagnose it, and sent us on our way. They never offered to keep it longer and take a closer look.

Sorry about not being able to gather any footage inside! Florida two-party consent laws limited our options. Next time, we’ll try something in a state where one-party consent laws exist. I also hope you appreciated my subtle country accents during the reenactment. This is the South, after all 😂

    Mine some bitcoin 🤣

  30. GamerOne on March 16, 2022 at 6:21 pm

I’m mine own geek squad support😅 I even have a friend that comes to me for technical help

  31. Kitchen Briks on March 16, 2022 at 6:21 pm

Going to geeksquad for anything is a terrible idea.

  32. Branden's Outdoor Channel (Official - Since 2013) on March 16, 2022 at 6:21 pm

You shouid take it back and show them they messed up

  33. Daniel Del Aguaro on March 16, 2022 at 6:22 pm

I did this 5 years ago. Same thing. I see nothing has changed with geek squad.

  34. Julian Mejia on March 16, 2022 at 6:22 pm

as someone who works here, this is an awful way to see, we often do not check hardware here because we state very clearly geek squad is "mostly" software, if this computer came to me i would not go digging through your cables to see if something is unplugged because very rarely does this happen, there are dozens of computers and we cant open all of them and check if every cable is connected, simply not enough time

  35. c313z k on March 16, 2022 at 6:25 pm

Honestly it is a little different when you have a walk in customer right at the desk waiting for you while you diagnose the problem to get back to him.

  36. gfxmaniac on March 16, 2022 at 6:25 pm

    or use voltmeter.

  37. ProfessorChaos on March 16, 2022 at 6:26 pm

Never ever allow Geek Squad access to your computer. They have agreements with the Feds to scan your personal files wether it’s required or not and then report anything suspicious to bypass warrant requirements. They were sued repeatedly for this.

  38. Jonny Task on March 16, 2022 at 6:26 pm

A while ago a drink had spilled on my pc, directly onto the graphics card, and everything would turn on, but there was no video output, and when you put in the graphics card nothing would turn on

  39. eixseven on March 16, 2022 at 6:27 pm

look once a dude legit wanted to scam me my CPU saying it was dead. 5 star rated btw

  40. John Crypto on March 16, 2022 at 6:28 pm

AS AN EX TECH FOR HP I THINK GEEK SQUAD DID NOT DO A GOOD JOB. THE GUY DID NOT EVEN TEST THE CARD ON A TEST BENCH CMON MAN. AS IF PSU ISSUE ARE NOT A VERY COMMON THING. JUST MY 2 CENTS. AND YUP IM TALKING IN CAPS AND I DGAS

  41. Kieran D on March 16, 2022 at 6:31 pm

you should plug the panel connectors into the wrong spot and take it in

  42. Relevant16 on March 16, 2022 at 6:31 pm

I’ve only taken 1 thing into Geek squad before which was one of my iPhones to swap out batteries for a new one for longer battery life and had no issues with the service there and phone worked fine and battery had long life so it was a good experience.

  43. blueridgeocean on March 16, 2022 at 6:32 pm

I only use geek squad for replacement protection on monitors

  44. Simon on March 16, 2022 at 6:33 pm

Actually had this exact thing happen. I was changing some cables out on my PSU and one of the 8 pin PCIE cables came loose from the PSU side. Almost fainted when I rebooted a few times but still no post. Luckily the GPU has some red leds on it that tell you if power is not hooked up properly as well as the EZ debug led I have on the board. GPU lit up and fans were spinning but no post. I will never buy another board without the EZ debug display on it.

    Love this series BTW.

Activates auto-translation of the video to show subtitles… Jump to 10:08 … Enjoy.

" I mean, the grandmas skirt could have been dead"

  46. Lan D. on March 16, 2022 at 6:34 pm

Telling them you cant get ahold of the seller was the misleading part, you maybe should have said "the guy insist it works" so atleast they wouldn’t have thought you were just ripped off, i would have thought dead card too unless they said that. Just my 2 cents.

  47. Brandon Brunson on March 16, 2022 at 6:35 pm

FYI wire tapping laws (two-party/one-party consent) is actually only for PHONE CALLS, not for in person recording. It is not illegal to record video anywhere in the US unless it is considered a "private area" (not private property), a retail store is most definitely under the "public area" realm. They can legally ask you to leave, and trespass you for any reason (including recording), but they cannot PREVENT or STOP you from recording.

  48. Torben Twiefel on March 16, 2022 at 6:35 pm

    Just clickbait, shotty test.

  49. Jeffrey Sonney on March 16, 2022 at 6:37 pm

Best part would’ve let them install a new GPU, because it still wouldn’t have worked….lol

  50. Matt M on March 16, 2022 at 6:39 pm

I worked for geek squad (13 years ago). I worked in two different stores and the 1st store was great. Everyone was really knowledgeable and cool. I guarantee we would have caught this even with a 10 minute diagnoses as one of the first things we were taught to do was check all the simple easy stuff first like a cable not being plugged in. I’ve had a number of people I helped where they think something like their ram doesn’t work and you check it and see that one of them is not seated properly. The 2nd one was unfortunately not so great, everyone was cool but no one really cared about their job. I blame out manager at the time as he didn’t try to train anyone, didn’t care, and would sometimes make fun of the customer for not having basic knowledge about PCs. Not everyone is in to computers which is why they would come to geek squad. Sadly his attitude rubbed off on others and was a big reason why I eventually quit. So just know it really just depends on where you go and the person that’s helping you. Really like any job that provides a service
