  3. Taydream on August 18, 2021 at 9:58 pm

I’m getting away from the American laptops and leaning towards a Samsung 8 Plus tablet which has not arrived on the market and may not be available until early 2022. I prefer Linux but Android will work well enough with the specs Samsung has on their version 8 models.

This was incredibly helpful, thank you!

I remember when i had a chrome book its was annoying having everything on cloud as you cant do the type of stuff that you can on windows or macbook

so what should I buy if I study business management but have a hobby in editing images and videos?

  9. Trev Cessna172 on August 18, 2021 at 10:03 pm

Surprised you didn’t talk about video editing with windows machines, just gaming. Also the best graphics cards for mid range (16 Gig ram) video editing, I don’t like the counter intuitive nature of Mac computers, my wife had one of the first Mac Books and it drove me nuts! Thanks.

Hey Chaps! What laptop are you most excited for in 2021? (I can’t wait for updated MacBook Pro 16 with M1Z/M2 chip)!

  11. Douglas Jenkins on August 18, 2021 at 10:06 pm

Linux only for those who like to "tinker?" Easier to install than windows, system and apps updated together with same utility.
Yes, you have to learn new system, but since using Linux only since 2005, windows is now the strange operating system for me.
Also, Chromebooks, especially the more premium ones, with at least 8Gb RAM, will run not only ChromeOS, but will also run Android apps, and Linux apps. This begins to be seamless and gives you much more capability along with the flexibility.

Open to any answers here, what would you recommend for basic schoolwork/ projects and some digital drawing/painting?

  17. SVP 818 on August 18, 2021 at 10:10 pm

Nice video, thanks. I, like many, use it for business, non gaming. What is the best windows laptop mix (processor/ram) for running word, excel, ppt, youtube, google sheets 10x. I do lots of research, excel formulas, you name it. I currently have a Dell AMD ryzen 5 with 16 ram, 14 inch screen size. I’m looking for something similar but with a 15 to 16 inch screen size under $700. Any suggestions? How about getting a simply laptop and then upgrading it to higher ram (budget angle). Do you prefer Best Buy, Amazon, costco, newegg to purchase for support and service. I typically get all hardware from Best Buy because I like the geek squad support. Thanks.

  22. Ken Cheng on August 18, 2021 at 10:13 pm

I don’t game but I’m a photographer and I’m really considering a gaming laptop for editing, I’m currently on the fence about the MSI GS75 that has a 17" 4k screen but for some reason, this particular store in Canada only has the version with a very slow refresh rate… (again, I don’t play any games at all), would it make sense to go that route?

  23. IndigoSue on August 18, 2021 at 10:16 pm

  36. Potter Sxl on August 18, 2021 at 10:36 pm

Some misinformation grinds my gears. Paying 1k is not the only way to get mac os, there is hackintoshes and a “real” tech channel should know that.

  37. Random Guy in Japan on August 18, 2021 at 10:38 pm

I recommend the galaxy s7+ instead of the ipad if you actually want to have a good PC/laptop expetience due to dex. Nothing beats that

Even as a light video editor, 8gb ram is a struggle but its what I have in my laptop at the moment until I can buy a new laptop later on this year.

  45. capitan bartolo on August 18, 2021 at 10:48 pm

I am fed up with the MAC and I want a good decent Microsoft gaming laptop that doesn’t cost too much what do you think

  46. Nigel Givans on August 18, 2021 at 10:52 pm

Would you consider macbook air m1 8gb 256 for developing applications?

  47. Alberto Ux on August 18, 2021 at 10:53 pm

anyone can give me a raccomandation for the MSI Summit E14? I am thinking to buy it to replace my Dell xps 15 so that I can have something more portable, however, as I occasionally use it for gaming too I am scared it may overheat too easily as it is so slim, what do you think?

  48. Zara ox0 on August 18, 2021 at 10:53 pm

I don’t care about the money but i would never change windows with anything

  49. Impromptu on August 18, 2021 at 10:55 pm

Always buy a couple of steps behind the bleeding edge because price drops exponentially and the best of the best isn’t actually going to age much better than the second or third option.
As to make/OS it’s simple. If cost doesn’t matter and you’re generally more interested in productivity go Mac. If you want a lot of flexibility, access to just about any game and are willing to handle some annoying system maintenance go PC. If your life is mostly watching videos, browsing and social media it’s Chromebook. As to Linux I’ve always been a fan but it still isn’t cooked yet – get a PC and try it out in a host like VirtualBox. The experience varies from distro to distro and you can have a no fuss experience if you like but the allure to most is the ability to work with a UNIX file system and command line. For all that the community is passionate and dedicated, not everything can run successfully on it, even in emulation. Final point – be clear about the software you actually need to run. There are extremely good open source versions of just about everything but if there’s something you really specifically need let that guide your choice. I have some speciailist stuff but most of my bottom bar is populated with open source alternatives for everything else – eg Libre Office, GIMP, OpenShot. Check out Ninite for a one-shot download experience and stick two fingers up at MS Office, Adobe and the rest. Unless you need them because your job demands it – in which case, the company should get a machine for you.

i am looking to buy a new laptop for teachers college this fall (something with high performance and lightweight). as of right now, i have a macbook air 2015 that still works as fast as the day i bought it. however, i have had many issues with apple (keys popping off, the flimsy charger, battery overheating with new updates) and would love to know if you could suggest any windows/chrome equivalent options for around a similar price.
