The 80’s were simply the best.

Xevious, Pac-man, and R-type are the most popular arcades of the 80s, but Xevious seems to be missing from the ranking. Others include Star Force, Afterburner II, etc.

What was up with the Gallaga play? The enemies shots were not affecting the dual ships when they obviously were dead on a bunch of times. Cheat code maybe?

I don’t care what anyone says, gaming back in the 80’s and 90’s was so much better!
So much originality and variety of ideas, pound of pound the game developers made the technology go so much further than the crap getting served up today.

  18. stiimuli on August 9, 2021 at 9:15 pm

Half of these I’ve never heard of or seen in all the time I spent in arcades in the ’80’s.
Yet no mention of very big games like Centipede, Qbert, Galaxian, Missile Command, Frogger, Qix, Burgertime, Mrs. Pacman, Robotron, Joust, Tron, Berzerk, Sinistar…

  19. John Perkins on August 9, 2021 at 9:17 pm

My friends got an arcade full of these gems. He’s got around 200 cabinets in total but can’t fit all of them in his arcade. It cost 10 quid to get it then everything’s free. It’s like going back to the eighties

  26. Peter JV on August 9, 2021 at 9:24 pm

I forgot all about gauntlet. I loved that game. Dragons lair was a pain in the ass but took at least a million coins from me.

  31. Owen Rowe on August 9, 2021 at 9:37 pm

Gauntlet, Star Wars, joust, dig dug, centipede. Great times

  32. WildAzzRacing on August 9, 2021 at 9:40 pm

No Battlezone, Tron, Asteroids, Centipede/Millipede, Space Invaders, or even literally the most advanced game of it’s time, Firefox… smh

  33. Rick Jones on August 9, 2021 at 9:41 pm

Does anybody remember a arcade game late 70s early 80s that a robot went thru a series of levels with other bots firing back each level abit harder each time. First saw the game at Malibu Grand Prix in Orlando. Graphics were very simple.

  34. DJFATFINGAZNYC on August 9, 2021 at 9:45 pm

You win with RASTAN being #1

  35. Pac-Man [SSBU] on August 9, 2021 at 9:45 pm

When America was a much simpler place to live in. Never knew how good we use to have it. After Sept 11th the whole country went down hill.

  38. Beangie on August 9, 2021 at 9:47 pm

Most of this games were iconic but.. how can you left out 2 games that built the 1vs1 fighting games of today… Karate Champ 84 and Street Fighter 87…

Que recuerdos tan padres, el juego que me gusto mucho jugar fue las tortugas ninja y doble dragon en mi nintendo nes. hay un juego que jugaba en las maquinitas no se como se llama es un policía que en la segunda misión esta dentro de un robot

  46. Gaat jenixaan on August 9, 2021 at 9:55 pm

I play these games after lunch before it’s time to go back to work. Difference is, work is at home and so is the cabinet. We are blessed in these times to have 40 years of games to choose from. Honestly i dont understand the hurry people have to obtain the newest gen console.

  47. spartygrad89 on August 9, 2021 at 9:56 pm

Also with the 80’s was token wars. Had 3 arcades within a mile of each other. 20 games for $1. And I could play Galaga with the no fire glitch for hours on one token.

  48. bugsfrickingbunny on August 9, 2021 at 9:57 pm

I stopped watching when you put Zaxxon in the top 25

  49. Roy CyberPunk on August 9, 2021 at 9:57 pm

Súper Hang On and Outrun had virtually the same graphics engine.
