Sony Fights A PS5 Counterfeiter And Xbox Deals With A Controller Drift Lawsuit | News Wave

Sony is one month away from launching the PS5 around the world, but in one part of the world they are currently fighting a person claiming that Sony does not own the PS5 trademark even going to court over it. Microsoft is also dealing with their own drift issue with joysticks on their Xbox One controllers and it looks like the class action lawsuit is getting worse.

Woah. I never experienced it with my Xbox controller. I have had a pair of joycons that drifted.

  2. Faldo on October 12, 2020 at 3:46 pm

Yeah, the plan with converting physical in to digital and then reselling the physical sounds like a great idea. How many times do you think they will be allowed to covert it to digital (after selling it again)? Sounds like free games to me.

  3. JC130 on October 12, 2020 at 3:47 pm

Swear to god, if my elite controller gets stuck drift, I’m gonna be fucking pissed

  4. Mr L on October 12, 2020 at 3:47 pm

One difference Epic could argue is that dedicated game hardware still has the physical media option thus allowing for competition . Though they would have to link the argument between that and digital in game payments .

  5. Jeramy Higginson on October 12, 2020 at 3:47 pm

I have had 3 Xbox controllers with drift. One of them was the Halo 5 Master Chief controller.

  6. lyianx on October 12, 2020 at 3:48 pm

"Now people are hoping Epic doesn’t win"

I didn’t want Epic to win to begin with. I thought their suit was frivolous and unrealistic.

  7. 4everShaymin on October 12, 2020 at 3:50 pm

I hope Epic wins this fight.

  8. Ivan Vargas on October 12, 2020 at 3:52 pm

My Xbox elite 1 controller started drifting and falling apart with in 6 months.

  9. Matthew Hurlbut on October 12, 2020 at 3:52 pm

Does Epic’s platform allow companies to by-pass their lower rates?

  10. Matt H on October 12, 2020 at 3:54 pm

Wish I could get in on that class action against microsoft, their controllers are a complete scam. I honestly don’t know how many I’ve been through. It was a big enough problem that I ponied up for the Elite 1 hoping for better quality when it was around, and I bought the best protection plan I could find, which was at EB games, so I could return the controller if there was problems. I never had an Elite 1 last more than six months. I exchanged controllers 6 times because of stick drift or dead spots and once because of a bumper issue. I would have gone through more but they stopped carrying the elite 1 and told me I was out of luck.

After that I bought a standard xbox one controller directly from the microsoft store, I figured they would take care of me. The left stick started sometimes not responding and the mic port stopped working 31 days after I bought it, microsoft told me they only cover it for 30 days. I don’t play my Xbox a whole lot anymore because I refuse to keep wasting money on controllers that won’t work.

Yes Nintendo has the same problems, but for comparison I bought a Switch 3 years ago. I got Joycon drift after 3 months and did nothing about because I figured Nintendo wouldn’t do anything about it and the controller was still somewhat usable. It got real bad eventually so I bent the shit out of the analog to prolong the life, then it stopped working altogether a few months ago. 2 weeks ago I sent it to Nintendo on a prayer, it was garbage anyways so why not see what happens. I got a brand new joycon sent back to me on friday, I paid nothing for it.

And just to cover everything, I’ve gone through 2 Playstation controllers ever. All consoles have controller issues, but only one is a straight up crook.

    NFS:DRIIIIFT Microsoft edition

  12. Juan Colondres on October 12, 2020 at 3:57 pm

I am more surprised nobody(the oiher companies) saw this Epic’s bullshit coming when they started their greedy movements, they have grown cocky thanks to Fortnite blind backers.

  13. chocolate dude_3631 on October 12, 2020 at 3:58 pm

Yeah but Xbox’s controller rarely drift tho. And I at least they handle it better then Nintendo, I’m still traumatized from joy con drift I still feel like it’s got drift after I got it repaired

  14. DREAM E4TER on October 12, 2020 at 4:03 pm

My xbox controller i bought last Xmas started drifting within a few months. I tried to msg xbox about it but they didn’t wanna help, should I try again?

  15. Megan A on October 12, 2020 at 4:03 pm

There were videogame consoles before walled garden digital downloads and there would be videogame consoles after if walled garden digital downloads were banned. On a PC you always have a choice on where you get your software from. Consoles/Cell Phones should not be any different. Imagine if you could only buy physical Xbox games from the official Microsoft Store, or something like Best Buy? That’s exactly the situation people have with Apple. If Apple says no to your app, then no one can get it. People should be free to install anything they want on their device because IT’S THEIR DEVICE. Imagine a world where there were open-source community-driven app stores available for *every* console/cell phone. That the future I want to live in.

  16. Paul-Ove Eidem on October 12, 2020 at 4:03 pm

The picture of the Xbox controller stick looks like it has gotten some abuse and not been used as it should…..

  17. Sid on October 12, 2020 at 4:03 pm

Why do people hope epic doesn’t win? It’s a win for the customers either way. Imagine nintendo becoming a software company that would pretty much free all their hardware limitations rn

  18. XelfieSelfie 101 on October 12, 2020 at 4:05 pm

PS9 controller: Can transform into a VR headset, explodes if you cook a grenade for two long, has a display on it (4k ofcourse), can stretch into fitting you hands perfect, throws out a small flashbang if you get blinded in a game, the ps9 is stored inside the controller, raytracing 2.0, can get invisible, gives you an emergency mini ak47 if you see a xbox-player AANDDD KAAZOOOO

  19. jared jacobs on October 12, 2020 at 4:05 pm

An xbox digital transfer sounds pretty amazing, id but the series S and then just hunt down old xbox and 360 games since i never had those

  20. SK LLS on October 12, 2020 at 4:07 pm

Why does he even bother putting himself on the thumbnail if hes just gonna give the same dead stare each time

  21. E. M .G on October 12, 2020 at 4:08 pm

My Xbox Elite 2 controller drifts and it just out of warranty. I am so pissed. Microsoft wants $100 to fix it. F Them!

  22. Jason Gooden on October 12, 2020 at 4:08 pm

I saw an Xbox One controller with the exact color scheme as the one here 5:15 on the top left. perhaps it was fake as well.

  23. Zaeranos on October 12, 2020 at 4:09 pm

If Epic wins and this effects all the other companies and major publishers are going to abuse this system. Then the hardware suppliers will most likely set up a system that publishers will have to pay out of their noses in royalties before they are even allowed to distribute a free-to-play game on those store fronts. Let alone if those games will be downloaded or not and make their money back. This would put a big risk factor on the publishers. Fortnite may be big, but it cannot make the billions if it cannot be played on any device other than a PC.

  24. tejas kumar on October 12, 2020 at 4:10 pm

In India no PS5 price announcement nor pre order till now because of this trademark issue.

  25. appleipodtouch2g on October 12, 2020 at 4:10 pm

This is interesting with the Xbox controller issue. I have never heard it talked about but I personally have experienced defective Xbox One controllers TWICE now. First time was around the launch of the Xbox One back in November of 2013, my little cousin bought one when they came out and his controller was defective in this way. He had to go buy a second controller just to use his new console. When the One X came out my brothers controller was the same situation out of the box, luckily he had several other Xbox One controllers already. If any of you have seen this defect, it is BAD. It is not as widespread as joycon drift, but the condition is much worse. The controller is flatout unusable. Its not like a mechanical issue, it seems digital and the cursor just steers right and its impossible to get control over the controller whatsoever. If your controller has this, is is 100% unusable in any way.

  26. Pranksterman55 on October 12, 2020 at 4:11 pm

    I dont have controller drift

  27. bEtchaos7 on October 12, 2020 at 4:14 pm

WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG FOR PEOPLE TO REALIZE THIS?!
    epic’s claims are ridiculous!
of course a store is going to take a cut!
THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT OF A STORE!

  28. SuBundu73 on October 12, 2020 at 4:17 pm

Sony could trademark the s#@t in the Gange…

  29. ReachStudioPro on October 12, 2020 at 4:18 pm

If the case about "walled gardens" goes through, we will never see any new consoles again. All consoles are sold at a loss. They recoup the losses using the 30% industry standard tax, software and their own services (such as online access).

If "walled gardens" can no longer be allowed, every company would simply throw their own stores and services on to every console to skip the INDUSTRY STANDARD tax.

No more will it be possible to maintain consoles, unless you increase the prices of your consoles so you don’t sell at a loss. But people wouldn’t so easily throw out 1000$~ for a console. The services and games would most likely increase in prices as well.

This effectively makes it unreasonable to ever want to create more consoles.
I also personally don’t want a thousand different stores bloating the consoles in the first place.
I like the closed nature of consoles as well as the existence of it. I believe it is a role in our industry that needs to be filled.

  30. ExSiegfried on October 12, 2020 at 4:18 pm

Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft should’ve stop using ALPS joysticks years ago period

  31. Leo80221 on October 12, 2020 at 4:20 pm

I’d just like to point out, the Series S is All Digital, which makes it the Series SAD Edition just like the Xbox One SAD Edition.

  32. DarcKnight89 on October 12, 2020 at 4:22 pm

And I just got a email from game stop saying my Xbox order had been delayed, and I only got my order in 4 mins after it went live, and I ordered the 1000 dollar bundle and it’s delayed come on GameStop,

  33. Michael Ivanov on October 12, 2020 at 4:23 pm

The Xbox Elite Controller is utter trash. I worked on retail and all the sold elite Controllers came back within the warranty time.

Bravely Default 2 puzzles me because I thought Bravely Second was the sequel (which I haven’t played yet).

  36. Karl Püschel on October 12, 2020 at 4:27 pm

My elite series 2 doesn’t work unless I plug it in. Started happening like a week after the 3 month warranty ran out

  37. Klffsj on October 12, 2020 at 4:27 pm

I think it’s silly that the court is trying to compare/contrast console gaming, portable gaming, and mobile gaming, rather than compare/contrast devices with open software (like PC’s, Macs, and Android) to those with closed software (consoles, handhelds, and iOS). The latter is specifically meant to have limited software availabilty, requiring the software to be reviewed for the security and privacy of users, and requiring a fee/cut for the exclusivity of being available on that device. If devs don’t like that, then perhaps they should develop for PC and Android instead, where they can directly sell their software rather than go through a store.

  38. Klffsj on October 12, 2020 at 4:28 pm

I wonder how the fast load times will work for Jedi: Fallen Order. I can see it now: you step in an elevator, the door closes behind you, the door in front of you immediately opens, now you’re somewhere else.

  39. Thomas J Shears on October 12, 2020 at 4:33 pm

Same with PS3 Controllers, genuine ones are more tricky to come by than they used to be 😏

  40. Paul-Ove Eidem on October 12, 2020 at 4:34 pm

Bethesda might have been a poor example….🤓

  41. Christopher Campos on October 12, 2020 at 4:34 pm

Epic uses apples platform to reach Apple users. I dont understand how this got this far.

  42. Devon Lewis on October 12, 2020 at 4:34 pm

The court case is probably trying to hope Sony just BUYS the trademark from them instead of pursuing it in court.

  43. BuizelTube on October 12, 2020 at 4:35 pm

If this were nintendo, they would have already trademarked ps5 in like 2003.

  44. Rob H. on October 12, 2020 at 4:38 pm

All this talk of Joy-Con and Xbox drift, but the only controller I’ve had drift problems with is the Dual Shock 4.

  45. Jason Gooden on October 12, 2020 at 4:38 pm

    Xbox drift?
I Never heard of that game.

  46. JBell017 on October 12, 2020 at 4:39 pm

Nintendo actually does turn a profit on the hardware as well as software unlike Sony and Microsoft

  47. edward garabito on October 12, 2020 at 4:39 pm

Hello spawn wave…just wondering what ever happened to that game eternal darkness for the game cube? I really wish there were a remake or a sequel…damn that game was awesome!!

  48. Jonathon Shirley on October 12, 2020 at 4:40 pm

Weird, never had Xbox drift, I get joy con drift all the fucking time tho

  49. Skever Beats on October 12, 2020 at 4:40 pm

My v2 Xbox One controller that came with my Xbox One X had drift issues after just a few months, had to switch the new joysticks and put them in my old Xbox One controller that had the joysticks rubber off… I guess I’m one of those users suffering from Xbox drift

  50. CASCADIA魔王 on October 12, 2020 at 4:41 pm

That guys address got leaked from the trade mark paper
