Very unfair comparison 👎🏼
I want to be able to make handwritten mind maps and share them on my iMac Zoom meetings with clients. Do you know if this can be done with ReMarkable? I imagine it can be done easily with iPad Pro.
The addition of the paid required cloud membership and lack of integration for Evernote are making me reluctant to purchase more of these for my team’s use. And I do somewhat find the interface and organization a little confusing, meaning I often just use it like an electronic notebook where I just put each new note on a new page in one ongoing digital document rather than taking full advantage of templates or organized, easy to find notes.
How Is it help for writers example for novels ?
Expensive product that also now is gated by a subscription for certain features. It’s kinda a hard sell. It only caters to the purist ‘oh I like the feel of paper and read on a Kindle like screen because my eyes are too sensitive for the ipad’. Props to you for spending 500 euros on that niche experience but most people won’t.
Definitely, the iPad is what everyone needs. Hopefully, someday apple add the E-ink function to the future ipads
Not having browser is really cool as it distracts you and it justifies the extra cost which I am willin to pay.
I miiiiight keep the Remarkable 2 for distraction free journaling because my brain is a monkey.
ahhhh! I hate decisions.
Thanks for the info very useful
So for drawing or sketching, which one is better ?
Boox note air 2…
Please guys I need some advice.
How good is the iPad really for note taking? I’m talking about the precision of your handwriting and neatness. I take a lot of notes and I want to fully transfer to solely using a tablet so that I have endless paper (virtual) and all my previous notes in one place (unlike real paper notepads).
I’m convinced that the remarkable will satisfy that with the best paper feel screen out there but it does seem limited (even the lack of colour change is limiting for me) so I will happy go with IPad if people agree or have experience in totally transferring from real paper to solely ipad for note taking.
In short, is the ipad ideal for constant note taking or should it be used just for quick notes on the go etc and you will still need paper for accuracy and neatness of handwriting?
Any feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks and great review too.
I’ve bought three iPads for work over the years thinking I would use them for taking notes and testing games (I work in games). But we hardly ever used them!!!
I have bought one Remarkable2 and use it daily for writing. Ideally I never have to buy another paper note book / moleskin ever again.
Do I have a Remarkable2 wishlist. I sure do. I wish I could scroll / have one long page instead of having to flip through pages. But that’s about it.
100% Disagree with this review. He is not the correct ideal client persona (ICP) for a Remarkable. It’s too Pro iPad as he doesn’t really understand the product. He tries to do a “review” based on feature sets but that’s the wrong way to compare the two products. There are more valuable reviews than this. He is 100% never uses a note pad aka Moleskine in his daily life.
You said you could get the iPad Air AND the Apple Pencil 2 for 500€. Where are you able to find at these prices? I see the iPad Air alone for 500€.
No colors……that is a major major drawback
I think the biggest misconception about these reviews, is that more features = a better product. For productivity and work, you want devices that perform specific tasks well, while not enabling you to go down a rabbit hole of possible actions = wasting time. For the business executive that needs to organise notes (going paperless) the remarkable seems a much a better product than ipad.
Thanks brother. Sticking with IPad. If Remarkable 2 had a less remarkable price then maybe I would go for it but not now.
Can u use remarkable 2 for zoom meetings?
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT DESK PAD
He said you can’t use the pen to tap on remarkable. For 500£.
And no backlight.
And no search.
I just purchased Remarkable 2 and will be returning it . I really dislike many features about it such as the screen colour itself. The dull grey is not appealing , nothing beats a fresh white page. There is not way of brightening the screen either, I would never use this as reader. The highlighters , even though you have the three colour , does not appear in colour on your screen , its only when you send the doc.? I was hoping to be able to write in my handwriting and convert it to text as I please. This can only be done when your are going to send it to document. For me I agree with the review , totally. Its not worth the $800 I paid with the pen.
Thanks for your honest review.
Good overview of ReMarkable. Some of the reasons I haven’t purchased on yet.
Whats the best app to run on the Ipad that I can build note taking templets in? I want to use the note taking capability like a daily journal, just like a day timer.
I couldn’t agree more. He brings it down to the one and only point that kills the product for me: the price. If it was 120 EUR with the pen included… I’d probably jump on it for journaling, brain storming, notes, etc. But over 500 EUR? Not including the pen? That’s a bit like: "hey, here’s your car 🙂 it comes without steering wheel, but you can buy it separately." Well… thank you very much. I’ll stick to my Surface Pro 7 for as long as it lasts and then I’ll probably go for an iPad Pro in a year or so.
I totally Agree with you. I didn’t like the Remarkable 2 at all:
Too much limitations and too expensive compared to what I get from it. Definitely iPad pro is a winner in everything compared to RM2.
I have a remarkable 2, a Samsung s7 plus and used to have an iPad pro. I gave iPad pro to my mom and using the other two. Remarkable 2 as my notebook that replaced the paper and Samsung s7 plus for everything else a tablet can do and more. I do use S7 plus for certain note taking with Samsung note app. The s-pen feels amazing and having three windows on one screen (I do one window with pdf, another window for YouTube and the note taking app on the other). Something iPad can never do. Also for some reason, I still felt I was writing on the glass on iPad while remarkable 2 really solved that problem with e-ink and Samsung’s s-pen has this flexing pen tip that somehow eliminates the glass feeling that iPad with apple pencil probably cannot solve as long as they keep that form factor.
As a result, remarkable 2 might sound pricy but it does replace paper completely especially if you take notes at work. What is completely overpriced is iPad.
This video is like a comparing bicycle and skateboard. LoL, they are completely different devices and also different price. One thing for sure, these e-ink screen tablets are quite expensive. I really like them and wanted to buy, but too much expensive.
I believe Remarkable2 is thinner than ipad and last longer with one charge. I really want to get Remarkable2, all I need is reading pdfs and taking notes. I can`t decide bc of this kind of reviews. Can you like this message If you say go for Remarkable, reply for reasons to get ipad pro but dont forget it I dont need all other things that I could do with my computer.
The amount of cutting in this video is disturbing and takes away from the content
He never says how much is the Ipad pro
Can any body tell me how much is the cost of rewritable tablet
But I can read the remarkable on the beach.
I’m wondering if I am misunderstanding something: is it possible to write in the WORD platform and then convert to PDF? I don’t want ALL my docs in PDF as I still want to easily edit. Is this possible with r2?

Thank you for clarifying and comparing.
if remarkable add color I will definitely buy that. I am waiting.
Which is the best for hand note taking device in budget???
Each specific action need specific requirements… This is why you use a kindle for reading, and not an ipad, a Xbox to play, and not an ipad, a computer to work on programs, and not an ipad,…this is why remarkable exist! It does one thing, but it does almost perfectly.
Why they make these “ more book” while there is IPAD already.
iPad for designer notes also can Rowland other APPS work on it way much more comfortable to use
i already have a laptop, i just need a replacement for paper notebooks, I was thinking about maybe the remarkable, the iPad pro, the surface pro x/8, or the tab s8, which is the best choice out of these?
Hey Tom
I’m right in the middle of choosing.
I’m leaning towards ipad for lots of the reasons you highlight.
I think I would get it tomorrow if there was a reliable handwriting recognition note taking app.
Advice?
Thank you for this! I’ve been contemplating the Remarkable 2 for MONTHS and was excited to get it but wanted to see reviews first. I’m going to grad school and want to use it for note taking, reading ebook textbooks for class, accessing apps I use for school and the canvas app. I wanted to eventually use it for my practice as a therapist once I establish it and take notes during my sessions that I could then transfer into text and file away in a program I’d use to securely hold notes and info on my clients. I also heavily use paper notebooks, writing pads, calendars, and make to do lists as I organize my life to the max with lists. But I’m now heavily leaning towards an iPad to do all this. I’m also an artist and want to try digital art so my skills aren’t solely based in handmade paintings and other pieces. So that’s a bonus with the iPad. Idk why I wrote all that but this feels like the place I can gush about this stuff whereas other people zone out when I get going on this haha long story short: thanks! I’m getting an iPad instead! 🙂
This is like comparing a sedan to a sailboat. Two totally different devices.
I bought the remarkable But I am returning to get the iPad. One thing I miss is a calendar to write on. Can I write on ical on my iPad? I saw you had a calendar app that you were writing on. is there one that will interface with ical? I had one on remarkable but it didn’t interface with my phone in real time or on my ical. any suggestions?
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. I am so glad I found this comparison! YOu answered all of my questions. I will get the apple. I have been looking for a way to take session notes without paper. I wanted to transition to digital record keeping. You have made it clear for me. Thank you!
I have both of them. Ipad all the way up.
5:44 you want to work on such a laggy device? gl
That really helped me.. thankyou!!
The thing I like about my remarkable is that it won’t force an upgrade -that then degrades my battery. When Apple did this for my IPhone – they lost me forever.
