New Fridge Freezer Only 130 Watts Will Run On Solar Power

New Fridge Freezer Only 130 Watts Will Run On Solar Power

We found this nearly brand new fridge/freezer combo on the side of the road near the cabin this weekend and talked to the owner.

His wife wanted near to freezing cold drinks. This fridge was running just fine as a fridge but could not get the drinks to near freezing for her. So she wanted a new one.

This fridge was in an occasional use cabin so its like new. Inside is spotless and new looking. Its a very modern fridge with LED lighting inside.

I took a chance and brought it home for us to use because it runs on about 130 watts only. This is awesome for us at the homestead for solar power.

The chest freezer to fridge conversion works very well but it is messy to use and crowded. You have to dig to get things out and it fills up with condensation all the time. It is super efficient to use though but messy.

I plugged this in to try it out and sure enough it works just fine. Now we have a new fridge/freezer combo which we can run on solar power on only 130 watts.

I will see if I can run this on a single solar panel and a battery.

That was a great find! I ran a huge side by side on two deep cycle batteries for a day after a storm so your assessment of a 250 watt panel and even one large deep cycle battery will work great.

If the refrigerator doesn’t work as you want it to add pull the thing apart and figure out why it’s getting -25 degrees in the bottom and it’s only getting 35 to 40 at the top there must be an obstruction or some way that you can manipulated to get colder so must be a manufacturer defect

Awesome find! !! I have been going through and removing several channels each day because people don’t even try to better themselves, but I will say it again- you are always doing what it takes to improve your life despite all the negative stuff you have to deal with. For example, crops are horrible this year for some of us but you figured out how to implement a system many bashed but you still did it! May God continue to bless and protect you all๐Ÿ˜Š

You didn’t say if the Fridge was successful running off a solar panel, and what size panel you used, and the cost of the panel and battery.

I can see why someone wouldn’t want that refrigerator because I bought one that didn’t have a freezer and you could not get it cold enough. The temp would go down enough but the refrigerator would not come back on until the temperature was above 40 degrees. But I took mine back to walmart and got a full refund back.
I also have a Co worker that had bought the same type of refrigerator and he said it didn’t get cold enough and he.works where it’s always cold in the IS department. The brand was a Danby. I dont like calling out brand names but a refrigerator is to make things cold. Avanti is a good brand refrigerator for a small refrigerator. I don’t understand why this one didnt get cold enough. It’s a good candidate for solar with 130 watts. Good luck with it if you are not going to try to chill drinks it should work for you. I had another small refrigerator and it barely got down to forty degrees so I put ice packs to help it along. And it worked fine because I had a small deep freezer to freeze weekender ice packs by igloo. Good luck with your find.

Nice find! I’d convert the little guy back to a freezer. Use it in addition to the freezer space in the new fridge.

Nice refrigerator/freezer. Happy for you guys. Avanti. They are a good little unit.

  27. Frederick Nolan on March 28, 2021 at 3:16 am

You mean your local inverter grid instead. Ia your battery bank inverter system able to handle the increased power drain. Apartment sized in Japan. It is the cubic feet in both and how full you pack it.

  28. Tess Elaynes on March 28, 2021 at 3:17 am

    Right on. Nice fridge.

  29. Ron B on March 28, 2021 at 3:17 am

An idea on the freezer conversion without a drain. Once a week take a wet vac and suck out the water to keep mold down to a minimum. Wipe bottom out once in a while with a bleach rag or wipes.

You don’t own a drill? I can drill a hole add a valve , hose it out wipe it down with bleach rather quickly. Gotta take everything out? So put stuff in mesh bag? You color code and know exactly what you need to get.
