I switched back to a basic phone, and here is what happened

In the past couple of weeks, I decided to put my super modern smartphone in a drawer and switch back to a basic flip phone. One that can’t load the web or take a decent picture. The effect of this experiment has shown me that simplifying your life in this way may actually improve it.

After dealing with a company I found through the radio ads to phone call Solar (bidinesses) whom I called to prepare myself to present the idea to my Tio (whos senior and ends up being victimized through these phones) I was turned away by a woman staying thst she can’t process my request because I’m not my senior (Tio, whos 90 years old).
So, I asked the Youtube microphone who in this phone knows my senior better than I do and I got this.

YouTube has to hire who understands us viewers. We need work. I don’t intend to bump into ppl who don’t hear or read me right and put a high point together fast enough or are scam artists and Ponzi scheme trolls.

Life is short, stop giving it to Tek Companies that are tracking your every move and could care less about your life. One day you will be sorry you did not give your attention to the person in front of you, but only after they are gone and you cant talk to them anymore, you realize you gave all your time to a plastic device that does not think or talk.

  4. Turtle Lake Tactical on July 19, 2021 at 3:07 am

Most smartphones have become slightly smaller tablets. As a trucker I use the phone for music and audio books. I’m going to try using the the kyocera 4G and a tablet.

Where can i find a flip phone

  8. Truth Shark on July 19, 2021 at 3:10 am

I have never owned a smart phone. I do all my computer work on my desk top. I am in control of my own life. Everywhere I go, people are owned by their smart phones, they have little communication skills, they have no interest in talking without looking at their phone every few seconds. I leave my phone in my vehicle every store I go into. I am extremely aware of my surroundings, people, the news and love my life, because my phone is not my master. I use it to call people and answer phone calls from ads I place on my desk top when I am at home.

  9. Botond Springer on July 19, 2021 at 3:10 am

    Excuse me, but it’s bulls`^t…
Honestly, you simply don’t have enough self control, to step out social media.
    That’s all.
Smart phone and facebook, Instagram, ect are different things.
I don’t have any social media applications on my smartphone and I’m happy with it.
I use my phone ONLY when I need it.

A flip phone and an iPad is better than an iPhone.

I made a post on reddit about a year ago, complaining of exactly the same thing as you and got laughed at for suggesting a basic smartphone that only had basic functionalities

I just ordered the Nokia 6300 4g. Phone calls, whatsapp, maps, music and the occassional web article. That’s all I really need from a phone

  17. George Gardner on July 19, 2021 at 3:22 am

I only bother with a handful of people who are actually close to me, I despise social media for personal use and find myself wasting hours on it per day, and, besides these things, any practical value my phone provides in terms of work I can pursue intentionally on my laptop. The literal only thing that I would miss is the ability to take photos anywhere at any time — this would be beneficial for my business which ironically will rely on social media a lot for its presence. But fuck it, that’s a small price to pay and I could always keep my smartphone powered off and take it with me intentionally if I was planning to get a few snaps for the socials…we’ll see. I’m sold, anyway, I’m getting a flip phone. The question isn’t if, it’s when and which.

  20. kaiyun zhao on July 19, 2021 at 3:23 am

buy a iphone and use screen time to lock everything. delete all apps and disable app store and safari. you can use camera, take notes, text and phone call, but can’t do anything else.

remember set a passcode to lock screen time settings. set a random passcode which you can’t remember ^_^

  24. DJohn NineOneSix on July 19, 2021 at 3:39 am

    AT&T doesn’t support 2g and I think 3G either

  25. Leah Winkler on July 19, 2021 at 3:40 am

I tried going back to my flip phone but the two major cons about why I switched in the first place were why I went back. Music and GPS. There was a time I was carrying both a smart phone and a flip phone for the purpose of GPS on the smart phone, but even with that, I got tired of not being able to search for places because I didn’t have any data. So I made the switch just so I can have data.
Sure, I could get one of those GPS devices for my car. But that still doesn’t solve the problem that iPods are not nearly as good as smart phones for music.

I wanna do that too! I wanna stop being addicted on my phone like i’m on drugs 🙄😒

  28. Worldwind 7 Boutique-Maryam on July 19, 2021 at 3:41 am

I walked away from the use of a smart phone. It became very unhealthy with no control…. Just burning out. I kept hearing ‘Privacy vs Convenience’. Many unwanted issues, and then…. I took back control over my life, and got rid of the phone. I do keep access with the ability of calling, but removed all other apps…. Using my old desktop and laptop… Pulling out the old cameras, I find a happier time in life.
I don’t feel like I have overdosed on technology.
Still going through the detox, but it is getting easier and easier. It is amazing just how brainwashed society has become feeling the need for Smart anything.
I enjoy holding a photo in my hand of my children and grandchildren, opening a book in my hand to read wherever I am at, getting into a physical dictionary to look up something, and so on. literally, putting a physical object in my hand that is ‘REAL’. I’m no longer chasing after things that are not real, and can be lost forever by the flip of a switch.

  29. Derrick Tremblay on July 19, 2021 at 3:42 am

Yes I feel exactly the same. I want to go back to a basic phone. Maybe use a tablet at home. 4g flip phone.

any idiot can get addicted to smartphone,
but the same thing can happen with the food and shopping and anything in our live,
the technology is here to help as and to make our live better,
with a little bit discipline you can use the smartphone as a basic handset when you have to

I am right now, exactly where you were a year ago! I loved my old Moto Razor… but like you, it would be very difficult me to transition back to the early 2000’s! I have already quit Facebook and Google but obviously am still on YouTube. Baby steps right 😉 And the best thing about old flip phones is that you only have to charge them every few days or so! Can you give us an update on your progress please? You will be my inspiration lol

Well, I have a ALLVIEW M9 Jump feature phone and I can tell is a pretty good machine. Very durable rugged device with many features that you had with Nokia back then.
Also have a xiaomi M1 but I don’t go crazy with smartphone on the daily basis.

  36. Justin Ditlefsen on July 19, 2021 at 3:53 am

Cant people just stop and use there phone when they want to? You can control it unless you believe you cant..

  37. Jeremae Flores on July 19, 2021 at 3:54 am

My iphone7 with sentimental value has started to be unreliable in calls. I looked for a basic second phone just for the call function worth about 10USD. Glad I saw it can also be a bluetooth repeater of calls and messages from one of the reviews. Waiting for it to be delivered, hope it works!

  38. Doy Rayburn on July 19, 2021 at 3:54 am

Im there too. But backing out of social media first is a worthwhile step. Ive been off for 3 years. Youtube is quite useful though.

  41. Agent Smith on July 19, 2021 at 3:58 am

Its not the phone that’s the problem its the way you’ve all been trained to be a slave to it, mentally, emotionally and commercially.

I have a 5 year old smartphone I have to use for work (Samsung A3)…I use it for calls, texts and work emails. I have no apps on it other than the default out of the box ones and I have no social media accounts at all. Email is on manual updates only, texts get answered when I can be bothered and most of the time I have no idea where the phone is unless someone rings and I hear it. I hardly if ever use the camera and quite often I go out without it at all.
