Here's why you shouldn't get this GE Door in Door fridge (or any Door in Door fridge)

The $3,100 GE GFD28GELDS isn’t as fancy as it looks, and its marquee feature is a pure gimmick that compromises performance.

Don’t buy this — or any other — door-in-door refrigerator: https://www.cnet.com/products/ge-gfd28gelds-door-in-door-refrigerator/

All features your host says it dsn’t include ARE clearly visible, and more: icemaker, water dispenser, drawer chill adjust, hard shelf… Does he work for Samsung/LG!?

This video actually convinced me to buy a door in door fridge. I was looking for a side by side without an ice maker that isn’t a Samsung and my only option was an LG door in door model that was on major sale. I was nervous about door in door, but when I learned from this and other reviews that the major issue is possibly the compartment running a little warm, I was reassured that this would be a great fridge for my needs. I live in the tropics and have to refrigerate things that I never had to refrigerate before, like flour, sugar, syrup, and various condiments, to keep pests at bay and items fresh longer. None of those things need to be kept super cold. So if the door in door compartment of my LG runs hotter, like it does in this model, it’s actually going to be fine for my needs. Thanks, CNET, for yet another helpful review.

i came here because of autoplay, but those of you contemplating which four figure fridge you want, i don’t know whether to smack you or to congratulate you for surviving a consumer landscape like this. lawdy

I just would like to have a refrigerator that isn’t so outrageously expensive like they have become these days and with more reliability like the old refrigerators use to last. Don’t care about the high tech, yea it’s cool but will it have to be replaced along with my cellphone every two years? 🤔 Thanks for this review.

  11. Valerie Thomas on August 24, 2021 at 10:46 pm

I have this exact fridge and I am pleased and I didn’t spend no 3100 for it either. I also have the dishwasher, microwave and stove that match. Very pleased and don’t care about the info this guy put out!

How is it possible that you (cnet) hate every single appliance that you have ever reviewed?

I got this one when we purchased our house. Had nothing but problems from the beginning

IMPORTANT TO NOTE…GE APPLIANCES ARE NO LONGER AMERICAN OWNED.
GE SOLD THEIR BRAND TO A CHINESE COMPANY. I’M OVER GE. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

I have this fridge the light is not turning on HELPP!!

  22. mbeochoa on August 24, 2021 at 11:04 pm

Just get a simple refrigerator without a water dispenser, ice cube maker and all of those buttons that you do not need. It will save you money and problems down the line. Simple/less is so much better. A fridge is a fridge period.

Even if you have the money, why would you pay 3k-5k for a fridge that will just sit in your house. It is not like you are going to drive it around.

    Mine broke twice

  24. BobEckert56 on August 24, 2021 at 11:11 pm

GE Appliances was sold off by GE a couple of years ago to some nameless Communist Chinese company. Our government was too stupid to allow GE to sell to Electrolux of Sweden. More power to the Commies!

I love how straightforward this guy is lol

  26. Charllene Wang on August 24, 2021 at 11:13 pm

LG sucks. My LG stopped working after only 9 years of use. My previous fridge before my LG wasn’t a name-brand at all, but had been great for 12 years. The repair guy told me that if anything went wrong with LG, it was always the compressor. No more LG for me for sure, it seems to me that they have short lifespan, so are my LG washer & dryer, which are getting there, too.

I like CNET honest reviews, they help me a lot avoiding bad purchase.Thank you guys.

  28. Matthew Felix on August 24, 2021 at 11:15 pm

Actually, i have door in door LG and it’s really useful and I wouldn’t ever expect that I would use it so much. Also the temperature on the door shelves is as it should. Milk and water is as cold as the rest of the interior.

  29. TurboFlush on August 24, 2021 at 11:15 pm

    Interesting.
Door in door is supposed to allow the cold air to remain more in. My kenmore /lg had a better design of the dd. It had another door inside.. Basically keeping the rush of air to a min.

In theory this is a good idea. Get what you want and get out. Condiments or drinks.
Unf my kenmore/lg has constantly frozen up every 3-6months randomly. Its never the same. Techs just want to defrost it. No support fron sears or lg.

Its cheaper to buy another fridge than to pay for repairs.

  30. Laurent de backer on August 24, 2021 at 11:16 pm

This is the kind of review i’m looking for, honest and not saying anything to please people. Love it!

  31. T.C. Appliance Repair on August 24, 2021 at 11:16 pm

I would recommend testing this with full product to simulate a true temperature reading, having product in any refrigerator helps stabilize and holds the temperature and runs more efficiently

    Dame,that’s a down payment on a car.

  33. Jill Thompson on August 24, 2021 at 11:17 pm

GREAT REVIEW! Thank You for your honesty.

  35. bill mason on August 24, 2021 at 11:17 pm

I got one and it sux. the icemaker gets clogged at top. When I get company there’s not enough ice. The ice maker fills bin but the ice refreezes to each other. Ice make doesn’t start making ice till you discover it and bang 8 cubes free. Nonsense!

  36. lobo G on August 24, 2021 at 11:19 pm

If I had a product to be promoted it would definitely won’t be you

  37. bestpilot98 on August 24, 2021 at 11:20 pm

the fridge’s upper doors are misaligned. unacceptable quality oversight at any price!

  38. jamilor on August 24, 2021 at 11:21 pm

Almost every gimmicky feature I’ve ever seen on refrigerators has been useless, and worse, actually increases the chance of having to repair something in the future. I stick to just buying a basic refrigerator, with a water dispenser at most.

  39. J M on August 24, 2021 at 11:23 pm

  44. Franklin Fernandes on August 24, 2021 at 11:30 pm

My LG door in door fridge Keep every food and drink very cold, it’s app is also very helpful, once a bag got stuck at the back of the freezer stopping the freezer to close fully and keeping the food frozen, I downloaded and used the app for the first time so the app suggest that something was stopping the freezer from closing, problem solved!
I agrree that door is not needed but once you get use to opening a very light fridge door compared to a normal door to get milk or any other cold drink you start to appreciate it !

Our local dealer has given me several reasons why what this guy sez is pretty much BS. I’ve been buying from them for 30 years… and they have excellent service. BTW… this unit is $1900 on sale. I haven’t bought one yet… my wife likes the Whirlpool.
