Best project would be to use a car headunit that has HD radio and make a home box for it with a computer power supply. I find the quality can be very nice.

    best man 🙂
Best receiver for analog FM DX (!) reception ever build. Still, and that since 2008

FYI, there is often signal loss when using a converter balun. But it is true the Sony has a more sensitive tuner. Another good HD radio is the portable Insignia NS HD01, from Best Buy.

13:56 Let’s compare this super Sony HD tuner with just a few little problems like – It gets too hot, it doesn’t hold stations in memory and the tuner doesn’t have enough memories.
to this Technics tuner that doesn’t work at all.
    Yep – loads better
You convinced me with that thorough A / B comparison, i will get on ebay and buy one tomorrow.
    NOT.
another thing, i detest HiFi equipment with any controls anywhere else other than on the front panel.

Good testing modality. The comparison is remarkable. That Sony tuner is one of real best ever made. There are a few problems with it. It gets too hot, it doesn’t hold stations in memory. The tuner doesn’t have enough memories. No the tuners are not expensive, there just aren’t enough of them. That Sony tuner only costs $96.00 when it was new. I have $400.00 tuners from the 1970’s that aren’t HD.

The S3HD table top version is better as it has a rotary tuning knob – better for DXing & bandscanning

Very nice. Please could someone share a good schematic of a tuned FM amplifier? Thank you.

Great vid! I think there is someone who mods the XDR-F1HD in which he replaces some internal parts of tuner to make it sound good and to greatly lessen overheating problems. Might purchase this one soon as it is a great tuner for me.

I still use an FM Radio to this Day my Flip Phone (Which I got from T-Mobile October 27th 2020 for $128) has an FM Radio and I use it all the time I think that’s very Cool that my Cell Phone has that since that’s very neat

HD Radio sounds terrible regardless of the radio. Compressed tinny sound. Satellite Radio and HD Radio is not for music.
