Google Pixel 4a: Best Android for Canada?

Today I unbox my Pixel 4a and talk about why I think it is one of the top choices for Canadians when it comes to Android choices.

Motorola was a close second but getting the phones I wanted was impossible. Many Motorola phones are exclusive purchases from specific carriers and not available for direct purchase.

While the Pixel 4a is available on Amazon, the prices are considerably higher (in Canada) than if you buy it directly from Google, at least right now. If you purchase a Pixel 4a or other items through the links below, as an Amazon Affiliate I earn from qualifying purchases:

I’ve heard good things about the camera! But I’m still pretty happy with my Samsung A70, so I’m not that tempted. For me, the one drawback with the Pixel 4a is the lack of microSD support but I guess that matters less now that onboard storage is in the triple digits.

Please avoid Motorola. Horrible customer support; while I am speaking from the Latin America/Argentina subsidiary, it appears to be a general issue that’s been dogging the company for years.

While you First World people are having issues concerning updates and lack of commitment from Motorola, let me tell you I and my best friend had to submit a Consumer Complaint because both a G5s+ and a X 2014 were denied any repairs under warranty despite *factory defects* . My friend is still in court, while I got a settlement, went the iPhone way, and never looked back.

Until they get their scheisse together, avoid the brand. Even under Lenovo their incompetence is notorious.

the 4a is to small for me sadly. The Pixel 4a 5G is the perfect size for me with 6.2".

The issue with Mototola after Lenovo bought them is software updates are infrequent. For my Z3 play in November 2020 i’m still on security update for July 2020 for Android 9. Additionally after a year of dodging questions from the community, they cancelled their commitment to provide an Android 10 update for the Z3. So i can’t see myself buying another phone from them. It bothers me the ewaste created by these companies so we will buy more devices from them. Perhaps tjis pushes people like me to install another OSon the phone.

Congrats on getting a nice phone. The mobile service ‘carrier’ thing in Canada is quite confusing to me because in my country, we buy whatever phone we want and then choose the carrier by buying their SIM card. I can go to a grocery store to buy a SIM card, register my name to that number and it’s done, there’s no contract required. Therefore I can change carrier by just getting a new SIM card.

Smaller size and price is also why I ended up with a 3a a while back. Enjoy your new phone!

Is the t430 still worth it? Or better a newer generation of the Thinkpad line (2015 and up)
