Wahoo is much better! No questions about it! 10-0

I am in the market for a bike computer and am already frustrated just watching this video. It feels like both of these were design in 1999.

If this guy says the word "button" again, I am going to kill myself 🙂

About seting up Garmin/Wahoo. You can chang your data fields on garmin during ride (just pres and hold on the field which you want to chang, select new an its done) and you dont need to stop to tuck out your phone from the pocket. The other thing with garmin you DO NOT NEED phone to cheng/ setu up data fields. I woud say Garmin 1 Wahoo 0. Yes wahoo is kind of easier (wahoo – what you said "stil didynt find out how to chose GPS profile) to set up when you at home but you need to realy know waht you need on your display other wise during the ride you need to stop to chang it using the phone if you tucket with you, if not you stuck with the wrong set up until you not come back home.

I’ve had the Edge 830 for a year now, and it has very dangerous aspect to the touchscreen that wasnt mentioned in this video. Moisture. If that screen or your fingers have any type of moisture on it, the screen becomes very unresponsive. Those seconds fiddling with the touchscreen could cost you dearly. After a few hours of riding one day my hands were sweaty and I nearly got run over because I was too busy trying to swipe on the screen.

  6. John Wild on March 22, 2021 at 12:51 am

Touch screen are no good for me. Wahoo it is.

  7. J-M Charing on March 22, 2021 at 12:52 am

Thanks, great review of Both products. I am looking to upgrade from my wahoo rflkt+ and I was wonder how each device works with Trailforks as I spend most of my time off road on the trails?

  8. Milan Pintar on March 22, 2021 at 12:52 am

this was the most biased review for garmin i’ve ever come across

  9. Matrix on March 22, 2021 at 12:53 am

Garmin 1030 overpriced piece of shit – impossible to pair with phone

  10. Carp Victor on March 22, 2021 at 12:54 am

Nobody talks about crash alert on Garmin which is absolutely amazing, I did crash one’s and the computer sent a message with exact location to my partner, how good is this, that’s why I will always stay with Garmin, their products are well though in all the aspects.

  11. Mingology on March 22, 2021 at 12:55 am

After watched your video, I had made up my mind which one to buy! Thanks a lot!

  12. Glenn Drinkwater on March 22, 2021 at 12:57 am

Oh the irony of watching a review of both units after getting so pissed off with my otherwise excellent 830 when it rains, the screen is so sensitive it tries to swap data fields and wont react to any sort of finger interaction gloved or not. Also as soon as there is rain or mist in the air the elevation and grade function is absolutely useless (rectified when uploaded to Strava by elevation correction). Looks like the Roam I’ve just ordered will be my go-to in the winter.

  13. WillCovy on March 22, 2021 at 12:57 am

    clip your nails

  14. SWM76 on March 22, 2021 at 12:57 am

Garmin is trusted in the airplanes I fly, and has been for 25 years. I think I’ll stick with my tried and true Garmin brand.

  15. Kevin O on March 22, 2021 at 12:58 am

Great review. On the bolt, and will be sticking with Wahoo when time comes to change. Also fascinated by the way you pronounce ‘button’

  16. Bridget Graves on March 22, 2021 at 1:02 am

Surprised that the reviewer says Strava routes don’t work on the Wahoo. The Wahoo site says they do work, and a few other reviewers say so too. What’s the real story? Was going to buy the Wahoo.

  17. Stuart white on March 22, 2021 at 1:02 am

This is a well laid out and balanced comparison test I think, I’ll be using this to help inform my next decision.
My experience for what it’s worth…
As with most other folk, I spent most of my years using Garmin, but after a number of glitches and lost rides, I began to lose patience. In 2018 I had a big event coming up with lots of mapping required so took the plunge and bought a Wahoo Elemnt (the original big one). As mentioned in this film, the companion app blew Garmin out of the water, the device performed well throughout the event and indeed for a good year or so onward, but after about 18 months, things started to unravel a little. Having to unpair and reinstall the device every couple of months when files stopped transferring, the battery life steadily decreasing, and wildly inaccurate elevation data, are little things I’d just gotten used to, but the total factory reset it performed and deletion of a large ride recently has got me looking for a new device. I’ve had the Wahoo for about two and half years now, and it’s covered about 25,000 miles, so perhaps I’ve just worn it out, but I’m not brand loyal to either Garmin or Wahoo so I’m not worried about ‘going back’. The Wahoo app is better, it’s incredible against the competition, but I find it annoying I can’t get on a desktop when I want to. The Wahoo mapping is ‘quite good’ but just not as comprehensive as Garmin. I left Garmin because of unreliability and losing rides, but as the Wahoo is clearly capable of performing the same miracles, there are now far fewer reasons to stay with them. With their progress made in touchscreen, there’s a good chance I’ll be returning to Garmin.

  18. Jeff Red66 on March 22, 2021 at 1:05 am

I’ve got edge 820 absolute garbage constant loading maps loop, trouble charging and holding charge, screen freeze and switches off mid ride never buy a Garmin again looks like give wahoo a try any recommendations would be appreciated

  19. Stephen Sine on March 22, 2021 at 1:08 am

I ride with gloves 100% does the Garmin work with gloves. I also ride in the rain often, does that affect the touchscreen much? Do they have maps for Germany?

  20. Paweł Przegoń on March 22, 2021 at 1:08 am

Dude!!!!! cut your nails! This is gross!!!

  21. SoleFreak on March 22, 2021 at 1:13 am

Has the Strava turn-by-turn navigation feature been added to Wahoo??

  22. RyuX on March 22, 2021 at 1:14 am

My Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM is slow compared to my Garmin Forerunner 920XT in Terms of GPS. Acquiring GPS and Speed Changes are just so much faster on my old garmin watch. However I still prefer the Wahoo because of the features – display and the RGB LEDs as well as ease of use.

  23. MAZ_MTB on March 22, 2021 at 1:18 am

Do you know if the Wahoo will list the remaining climb and remaining distance like the Garmin can with a router?

  24. One Less Car pka Ride On on March 22, 2021 at 1:18 am

The one thing that no one seems to point out is that Garmin gives street names on the map, the Wahoo doesn’t. As much as Wahooligins 😏go on about how great their computer is I’ve yet to find a computer that comes close to matching Garmin for navigation. I rely on navigation so much. I can ask it where the nearest gas station, hotel, restaurant, POI is and it can tell me and take me there, no phone or data needed. In foreign countries, this is a life saver.

  25. Podunk Man on March 22, 2021 at 1:19 am

Garmin fanboys. All their products I had were just crap; they froze, showed the road with a delay, divided the track into several…
They were not even able to secure LAN network. All services they had were in one pool. Lack of ABC security

  26. Shem on March 22, 2021 at 1:20 am

I have fenix 6 watch and hope to use the HR and display it on the bike computer. Can wahoo accept the HR from fenix and display it together with other stats?

  27. Cris Lee on March 22, 2021 at 1:22 am

What about changing a battery, is this possible or do you have to send in the device?

  28. eddie stewart on March 22, 2021 at 1:24 am

GLONASS is generally more precise in mountainous regions, while Galileo offers better accuracy in urban environments. When you combine either of these two systems with GPS, your receiver will usually be dead on about your location. When you’ve enabled both GPS and GLONASS or Galileo, the device simply has more satellites to choose from, allowing it to be faster and more precise.

  29. fitty77 on March 22, 2021 at 1:24 am

Sometimes, really seems like people that opt for anything other than Garmin, they do it just for that. Going for something else then Garmin. Yes they are around for a long time. No, they are not perfect. But there is a reason for them to be around for so long: they still are at the top of the game.

  30. Gareth Powell on March 22, 2021 at 1:24 am

Thanks for excellent review. Hope you can answer my question: I am above beginner but not expert and have been cycling consistently for past two years around a big road/track 2/3 times per week. Because I’ve improved a lot, I want to start measuring my performance but also have a computer that can train me as I ride. For example, improve my cadence, power, speed etc. Ideally, I want all the equipment (cadence sensor, computer, smart phone, heart rate monitor etc.) all on my bike and me. I don’t have a smart trainer and probably won’t. If you can recommend a setup, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks and subscribed!

    Reliability: Wahoo wins…

  33. MrMassproduce201 on March 22, 2021 at 1:27 am

Is it safe to say the 830 is the standalone all in one setup no need for gimmicky apps or Pc tethering. I think I’m going with the Garmin

  34. Mike Cardwell on March 22, 2021 at 1:28 am

Ok I watched your video , but you did not answer my question. I currently have a Garmin and like it with one big exception it does not record elevation gain correctly. I have talked to Garmin many times and gotten new devices also ,they all keep haveing the same trouble. Example Saturday I rode 34 miles and the device said I did 607 ft of gain . When I got home I went to Garmin Connect and it corrected to actual gain of 1,800ft gained. This is driving me nuts. Is Wahoo any better.

  35. Karl Decathlon on March 22, 2021 at 1:28 am

I use a Garmin 830 on my gravel bike in conjunction with a Shimano DI2 gearshift. You can program the switches on the dungeon handles so that you can control the Garmin computer such as switching sides. I don’t know if you can do that with the Wahoo.

  36. NiagaraFE on March 22, 2021 at 1:30 am

Amazing to hear all the wahoo fans go nuts with the data presented. Coming from the Garmin fan side of things, the review seemed to be too delicate. The presenter would talk about features that were far superior on one side or the other, and then make it seem like it was close in the end!?!?!? When it’s all over and done, I’m throughly disappointed in this review. Man up, use them both on the same ride till they die a few times and tell us real world which lasts longer!!! Tell us which seems most accurate by putting them up against a clinical tester on a trainer. And please let me know which can be used with what other items (HR monitors, power meters, etc are expected, how about telling us what doesn’t work with which one!!!!)

Step it up guys. BIG FAIL

  37. Marios Karampalis on March 22, 2021 at 1:30 am

so In short, if Garmin makes a better application, it will not have competition from anyone!

  38. INTERCEPTOR on March 22, 2021 at 1:31 am

Does Wahoo comes with speed sensor that goes to the rear wheel because I do lot of wind trainer rides, than k you.

  39. linda valentine on March 22, 2021 at 1:31 am

Wahoo is no good when your lost in the middle of knowwhere and have no battery signal on your
    phone!!! 🤯

  40. Stephan Van Lunenburg on March 22, 2021 at 1:35 am

i had a garmin and i regret it a lot. the device worked fine but the accompanying app has continuous problems and that makes the device useless. if you buy an expensive product, you can expect that accompanying things such as apps also work well.
Garmin is then totally unhelpful and not open about the problems they have.
I’ll never buy anything from garmin again. terribly bad company

  41. Uncle Baz on March 22, 2021 at 1:36 am

Have both, prefer wahoo elemnt roam for pacticality

  42. Ivo Kuijpers on March 22, 2021 at 1:36 am

Garmin by far…. Wahoo is a hype… also this comparison should use the 530 without touchscreen, uses less power. But be honest a good navigation device needs a touchscreen. Also the Wahoo does not have "instant routing" you need a phone, so only half a navigation device….
The garmin connect website gives you so much information, also from the sensors you use…. but hey, they invented ANT+….

  43. 23bogarka on March 22, 2021 at 1:36 am

In a rainy riding the Garmin touchscreen is working fine or.. Not so soo?

  44. Kroko on March 22, 2021 at 1:36 am

The Wahoo is the much better device for navigation. The detailed map is much stronger. They differentiate clearly between different road qualities. This is essential for a roady or gravel rider. Navigation together with data files and so on. I also don’t agree to say the wahoo is not meant for power users. Those can use additional devices like a Garmin or Polar watch to have all training plans on them. You also missed out the LED stripes on the wahoo. Which you can use for power or turn navigation or whatever. Those LEDs you can also recognize with not seeing the numbers.. Not mentioned that touch screens are not working in rain and sweat… Buttons are working always and the only robust way to stop, start and doing whatever in sports. We are riding not only in sun shines and clean roads and sometime we are sweating a lot. comments below…

    Is the garment fully waterproof?

  49. Paul Wills on March 22, 2021 at 1:43 am

As someone considering the Garmin vs Wahoo universe from a noob point of view.
    1) Which universe has the best options for LED front/rear lighting control options?
Hypothetically something like turning on or off the LED lamps from the bike computer?
I know the Garmin rear radar with a light is compatible with both systems.
But I can not find much information about wahoo and lighting device support.
    2) Which unit is compatible with the Apple Watch heart beat monitoring?
So that way I do not have to purchase another device.
    3) basically which universe is future proof with a healthy amount of accessories.

  50. Haochi Zhang on March 22, 2021 at 1:44 am

Wait, I love my Roam but isn’t this video biased towards Wahoo? E.g. the software part you said Garmin is more focused on performance and Wahoo is more focused on enjoying the ride, but didn’t give any example on how Wahoo has more features on helping you enjoy the ride better.
