   Here in Long Beach, CA I picked up a Dell Optiplex 780 Mini tower for $40 at a local business park’s replaced equipment sale. This was about a year and a half ago in 2019. It came with the E8400 Core2 Duo processor, 4GB RAM, A 120GB 5400rpm HDD, CD/DVD burner, 235w PSU and no graphics card. Everything worked fine.
   Over the past year I have paid attention to to various sales among Amazon, Tiger Direct, Newegg and Craigslist! The same Dell as of last week:
   Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 Processor (Free! Trashed white box PC. Took the beefier heat sink off of a trashed Dell Optiplex 755. Craigslist)
   16GB of matched Crucial RAM (Black Friday Crucial sale)
   2x Toshiba 1TB 7500rpm HDD’s (Got them both for a terrific price at Newegg. I may or may not replace one of these with a SSD). Windows 10 Pro 2004 on one drive and Mint Cinnamon 19.3 on the other.
   450w PSU (Frys Black Friday sale)
   Gigabyte GT 1030 2GB video card (Tiger Direct)
   PCIe USB 3 card. (Amazon)
   The upgrades have come at a cost of just under $150 US dollars.
   State of the Art 2020 games? Forget it! However, Half Life 2 and mods all day long. Original COD4MW, CODMW2, CODMW3, Wolfenstein The Old Blood and Wolfenstein The New Order (with some settings turned down of course but nothing horrible), Serious Sam, Painkiller, Halo SPV 3.2… These all perform nicely. I tried Halo MCC Reach. It is playable but you have to turn too much off or down. No fun.

    Hello, I have just been given a stack of old Windows XP games such as TES Oblivion, GTA San Andreas and Rome Total War and am looking to buy a cheap pc off ebay to play them. I have seen a couple of refurbished systems that look like what I might need:

    Dell Optiplex SFF – Core 2 Quad Q6660 – 4GB RAM – 1TB HDD – 2GB GT710 – Windows XP
    or
    Dell Optiplex SFF – Dual Core 3GHZ – 4GB RAM – 1TB HDD – 2GB GT730 – Windows XP

    I am a bit confused though because I asked the seller of the Core 2 Quad pc if he could fit a GT 730 instead and he said yes but the other seller told me that a similar pc he had doesn’t have the power for that card, which is why he is selling it with the Dual Core pc instead. If the Core 2 Quad doesn’t work with the GT 730 which would be the better pc as listed? Also would either systems be able to play later XP games such as TES Skyrim, GTA IV and Shogun Total War 2? Sorry if I sound a complete noob but I have only ever had games consoles in the past so don’t really know much about PCs.

    Dell optiplex 7010 sff is a great PC with generous mods. I have a msi and Rx 580 as a graphics card. I put the highest compatible cpu i7 3770. I also made it into an open air system to mitigate extra heat as well as installing a copper pipe heat sink cpu cooler. This system runs pretty well and honestly if your a mild gamer you won’t need anything more than this with mods.
