Equipment Reviews: The Best Food Processor
Equipment Reviews: The Best Food Processor
A food processor can make an astonishing range of recipes faster, easier, and more approachable. In the test kitchen, our longtime favorite has been the Cuisinart Custom 14 14 Cup Food Processor, which has performed well for years, but with new competitors on the market, it was time to see if it was still the best choice.

The testing here is thorough. They looked at it from every angle, which raises concerns when the Cuisine Art was chosen as the winner. I just came from a few other channels and the Cuisine Art failed many of the tests. The Breville won by a landslide.
I got Breville about a year ago, an improvement over a 16 year old still working Kitchen Aid. I make mayonnaise often and it does that perfectly and quickly. I drilled a small hole (start SMALL) in the smallest clear plastic plunger to drizzle oil hands free. I use the main bowl for mayo. I only use the inner bowl for chopping or mixing mostly dry ingredients. I was surprised to find that liquids splatter into the larger bowl from the inner bowl. A tomato knife does better than the Breville with tomatoes. I am quite happy with this very useful machine and use it almost every day.
I really enjoyed this presentation..I have the 7 cup KA…..as I’m older and it’s so easier for me to handle …have had a processor for years ….like you …couldn’t live without it ….I do pizza dough with KA stand mixer …works great …
Great review!!! Thank youuu
Sadly, I no longer own my Oster multi-purpose kitchen center that had a stand mixer/dough blade, blender, food processer, etc. So multi-purpose I used it daily. It’s a shame, really. They are only available used & frankly a little overpriced. I have the Kitchenaide now & I rarely use it.
Can you guys test meat grinders?
Well said on all machines. Thank you!
Thank you for the review. I purchased the Cuisinart 14 cup model based on this info and just tested shredding a block of Parmesan cheese. I was disappointed that chunks of the Cheese remained twirling around between the lid and disc and we’re not able to be shredded. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
Thank you for this review! You helped me choose a food processor and I’d like to order this model!
I have a question though- when I click the link to buy this model, it takes me to Amazon and brings me to the page for the DFP-14BCNY model. It’s in stock, but then for $30 more it has a link to ‘buy the newer model’- the DFP-14BCNYC.
Specs seem the same, it’s likely just the 2021 version. In your review you said the newest model has the blade assembly sitting higher off the base of the processing bowl and you seemed disappointed with this change.
Would I be correct to assume that the link in the video description is your true favourite model, and therefore the one with closer blade tolerances, and that I should buy this model and not the newer (and $30 more expensive) model?
Any info or clarity on this would be much appreciated!!! Thanks
I made this purchase based on your last review, and it is an awesome processor. Not too expensive either on sale.
Does anyone know the old model # before they redesigned the blade height?
Thumbs down for the paywall to view your review on the site. All I want is a link to the Breville, I’m not shelling out cash; do an affiliate link like everyone else.
Conclusion is at 7:58
Had a Cuisinart for 10 years, which finally died. Now I have the Breville: powerful, good performance, no need to special order blades for julienne, french fries, sizes of grating. I saved the offwhite insert from the Cuisinary and can still make mayonnaise. The Cuisinart bowl held less and was awkward to remove with contents still in. No problem with the Breville. I consider the Breville the Cadillac of food processors. Highly recommended!!
I’lll always love my cuisinart it’s a classic about 25 years old now and I still use it for at least 5 meals a week
I have a Cuisinart and 2 Breville’s. Breville by far the best. Thank you. Love all your reviews 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️
this is just a thinly veiled ad for Cuisinart!!notice how she never mentioned the other brands? not a Whisper of second and third place brands at all – CHEAP WASTE OF TIME –
For emulsifying a small batch of mayonnaise in the Cuisinart Custom 14, the dough blade (DLC-019ATX-1), which used to come with the machine but is now an extra-cost accessory, works very well. The bottom blade nearly touches the bottom of the work bowl. It’s currently $12.00 on the Cuisinart Web site.
Thank you for yoru revieww. I love them. However, its been published that all Kitchen aid products cause cancer according to California regulations. If you have any comments about this or helpful info, please let us know. Thanks.
Where is the vitamix food proccessor?
I have had a basic Cuisinart food processor for 40 years….. Used weekly and still in perfect condition. I have had to replace the bowl once
Lisa. So stoked your back. Professional video with professional results.
NOT so durable. I owned Cuisinart Mini Food Processor 4 times. I replaced them almost every 2 years. Once the warranty past, they stopped working. This time I bough KitchenAid 5-cup FP, and see how long it can stand.
WHAT i REALLY WANT IS A PROCESSOR THAT DICES.
Straight to the point, not trying to impress, super clear and precise. Love your work Lisa keep it up😁 so many of my purchases are based of these videos
Please test the new Vitamix food processor attachment.
Thanks, America’s Test Kitchen! My "vintage" Cuisinart is finally needing to be replaced, as the stem that hold the blades broke and cannot be replaced. We have certainly gotten our use out of it! I bought it in the 80’s, when I was in my 20’s, a special deal in Spiegel catalog, with a bright red set of the full size and the mini food processors! It has been well loved and used and moved many times, and I came online to find out which one to purchase now. Once again, the tests done in your kitchens have helped immensely!
Is the Cusinart 11 cup as good as the 14? I don’t think I need the extra capacity nor the storage space.
I don’t know what this part is called, but the off white plastic part that is in the middle of this processor apparently cracks often. There are multiple photos of it cracked on Amazon reviews and on other sites reviews. I wanted this processor but I don’t want to pay money only to have this essential part break. Customers said that if it’s under warranty they had to mail the unit back in order to get it fixed. Sure wish Cuisinart would fix this part. They need to use a different plastic for it. I’d like to see a review of medium and small food processors too and I want to see the use of the machines for pureeing and almost pureeing food for people waiting for dental work to be completed or fo those on special diets.
You haven’t tested the Magimix. It offers all the Cuisineart features (sharp blades, flush with bottom surface, super short pulses) it also has two mini bowls AND it’s motor that is factory wound in France has a 25 year warranty
Excellent presentation. Right to the point and well communicated. Thank you.
all comes down to power, always loved my cuisnarts
What about the Cuisinart Elite 14-Cup and 12-Cup food processors? They come with mini-bowls.
I have the breville, and it is a beast. I love it, it is a bit pricy but I don’t see it breaking anytime soon. The timer it has is great, when mixing for certain times.
The link to the winning product is for a product manufactured by Plumiss when it should be Cuisinart
I wish she’d named the food processors when saying what they DIDN’T do as well as what they DO. Now I know two which two processors they liked but they are both out of my budget. I’d just as much like to know which ones are bad. She told us everything except which processors she was talking about when she said what she liked and didn’t like. Not much of a review.
That’s really disappointing about the Cuisinart – making mayonnaise is a really basic function and the blade not being close to the base is super annoying. Some Magimix processors have done this too. For the money pay you’d think they’d not overlook something so basic.
The best food processor is a whale, eats tons of food a day.
I was a cook/kitchen manager for over ten years, with the high end of the price scale I’m surprised you didn’t mention Robot Coup, as this company makes high end restaurant and industrial grade machines, many of which fall in the high end price point and can be found for cheap at restaurant equipment sales and auctions!
I really hoped you did a top 3 or so instead of picking a winner with an honorable mention to those who need a smaller volume. Loved the video regardless!
How’s robot coup not on there?
thank you… appreciate all the tests that were run…helps so much.
but have to tell you, breville stinks…just take a look at amazon’s one star reviews. i have had the big one for over 2 years. at first i liked it….BUT the quality of the plastic parts just stinks.
i have had 2 bowls that got stress cracks…and now the liquid leaks on the bottom. i have tried to order a bowl but they are always out of stock….for months. so now i cannot use liquid in the bowl.
trying to put the spindle on gets so stuck you have to wrestle the the thing off to remove it from the bowl. i have to have hubby do it. perhaps it is the stress cracks that makes it so snugg.
the large gray pusher thing has a seam and won’t let you put it in the dishwasher…i didn’t read the actual part in the beginning so i did …. but it would have been so easy to make this part w/o a seam so that no dishwasher water got into it. meanwhile, it too has cracked and i could have wound up w/a piece of plastic in our food….not good.
after a few months of use, i looked at the handle of the thing and it is full of food swished into it during the dishwasher clean up. it is nasty and you know it’s unsafe… have tried removing it, but so far i’ve not been able to.
so in the beginning, it worked great, but after time the lack of quality shows up everywhere.
i used to be a breville fan, but this thing is garbage….currently looking for another one.
NOT A GOOD CHOICE.
I have the 11 cup Cuisinart and really like it. Not as big but doesn’t take up as much space in storage. Works better than the Vitamix for nut butters and smaller amounts like hummus.
My Cuisinart is the Heavy duty one and is well over 20 years old, never had a problem with it and I recently started making bread with it, two minutes and its mixed and kneaded. Long life is worth the extra money it costs. it can do everything.
She rocks,
Before buying any product you must have a good idea about the product.💓💓💓 thanks for your video
Very interesting! Does this food processor (in fact the two you recommend) deal with frozen fruit to make ice cream? I guess yes, but would appreciate confirmation! Thanks!
A good review, but I would weight the results differently. There’s some quibbles here with the Magimix, that some of the accessories were not well described in the manual. Surely what’s important here is whether they work well. For me, a thirty year warranty on the motor factors more than the written manual, as there are plenty of videos showing how to use any of these machines. Many people will get more from a good video. Also, the kneading attachment redesign on the Magimix is really good, and you didn’t test it. The Magimix has a very good food mill as well for baby foods and sauces, and several very good juicer attachments. The mini bowl is excellent. Not disagreeing with the quality of the Cuisinart, just mentioning that warranty and features may be more important to some.
Thanks for addressing cleanup, which makes many of these devices time-inefficient for low volumes, in my experience.
LOVE Lisa’s reviews! Some of the other reviewers can be a bit silly. I like Lisa’s delivery SO much better. Thank you for getting right to the point😁
