Embarrassingly Bad: HP Pavilion $1430 Prebuilt Gaming PC (TG01-1160XT Review)

Embarrassingly Bad: HP Pavilion $1430 Prebuilt Gaming PC (TG01-1160XT Review)

We secretly tested HP’s support quality alongside its assembly and parts selection competence. This review of the HP Pavilion TG01-1160XT prebuilt shows why it’s so bad.
Sponsor: be quiet!’s Silent Base 802 https://geni.us/DaGYu

The HP TG01-1160XT was purchased as a PC in our $1000-$1500 price range for prebuilts. This follows-up previous benchmarks and reviews of Alienware, Dell, Lenovo, ABS, and Skytech, among others. The HP Pavilion tested was recommended to us by HP’s support — who told us we should get 32GB of RAM for gaming, for some reason, while also recommending an Intel i5 CPU and a 2060 Super. It’s a bizarre combination of things that led to this build. We’re still on our quest to find the best pre-built gaming PCs. So far, we’ve found two pretty good ones and a bunch that aren’t that.

Is it possible to modify the device, for example, to install an M2 ??

  2. terr0rwolf on November 13, 2021 at 10:55 am

Probably been said already, but 32GB RAM even on a lower end CPU can make total sense..if you play for example modded Cities:Skylines, Transport Fever 2 or similar, because in the late game, they will just consume every MB of RAM you have. TPF2 crashed often on my 16GB RAM system for memory-related reasons.

You crack my ass up on a major scale. I’ve been building systems since 92′ and we could melt the mind of seniors world wide. Oh Dell, how’s your face// What do you mean why? Because it’s killing me.. Blaaaaaaaa..

  7. Zanarkand on November 13, 2021 at 10:57 am

Companies big as HP, Dell ect couldn’t care less about your thoughts. Why you think they still make this garbage?

  8. Edward Book on November 13, 2021 at 10:57 am

I actually ended up buying that same hp pre-built because I kinda had no choice, gpus were sold out and I needed a gaming pc that could just give some decent performance. So far it works really well for me. The only thing I wasn’t impressed with was the small watt psu and the bad cooling system. But I only game at 60 fps 1080p so it’s good enough for me. Plus I’m amazed with it’s performance for how small of a tower it is, it’s like an overpowered xbox series x

HP pc’s are real pieces of crap, 80% of my repairs in my shop are HP computers, all kind of bizar problems too mostly.

Hp and Dell are a joke to PC building…

Bought and $300 HP OEM back in 2014 and worked out the components were worth like $170 at a max. They didn’t even have a built in PSU…

  19. Dan Duncker on November 13, 2021 at 11:09 am

the pre built acer system i bought over 10 years ago atleast had a standard formfactor board but wasnt exactly easy to dind a manual for plus they delivered the computer with a powersupply that could bearly run th components it came with

  22. Liviu Țurcanu on November 13, 2021 at 11:14 am

i agree these are not so good computers , but only because of the missing possibility to upgrade almost anything inside them. i got myself one of these hp pavilion pc , and it was pretty much ok until i had to make some upgrades .. mine was 700 euro in 2017 and had 8gb of ram , i5 8400 , gtx 1050 and 1 tb hdd .. i do know to install a windows so bloat isn-t a problem . fast forward in 2021 , i still use parts of that pc , liuke ram, cpu, hdd, ssd , sata cables , leds , buttons , screws . it did his job for 3 years .. had never issues with any component inside it so i don’t agree with you calling them trash . (maybe they are too expensive for the specs) i didn’t had more money that 700€ back in the day .. and it did work good for the price .

If that PSU fries and I am sure it is rigged to fry very often, you are screwed. 🙁

  36. Maddiecaffeinated on November 13, 2021 at 11:25 am

I’ve got an HP Envy 700-230qe from 2013 that I’ve upgraded, and I swear it’s got the same cooler fan, similar motherboard, and the case has the same insides but shinier outside since it’s meant to be an office desktop so there’s a DVD drive I’ve never used (but could absolutely use that space for another fan). The side panel is pretty identical to yours, but hey at least this refurb came with a thumb screw! Right now I’m looking for new cases and storage, since I’ve already upgraded the power supply and GPU!

Sadly the people watching this are unlikely to be the target audience of HP.

  43. Dan Duncker on November 13, 2021 at 11:37 am

this video shows why you dont buy prebuilt

  44. Scott Anderson on November 13, 2021 at 11:37 am

This is a very defensible position, and I wouldn’t argue with anyone for calling me an idiot, but it seems like there is enough evidence at this point that a teardown of a "cheap" off of the shelf PC is redundant. For the average customer of a PC like this "Does it work?" yes. "Does it play my games?" yes. "Can I upgrade parts in the future?" no. What is being described here is a video game console, with just a little bit less margins in the error for manufacturing mistakes. I sorta liken it to being angry my Roku doesn’t play video games at a high enough frame rate, or a console that doesn’t run Excel. Different purposes for different devices.

  45. Pat O'Neill on November 13, 2021 at 11:38 am

Thats like… 12 watts per amp? So each main, cpu, Vg can handle like 216 watts.

But a max of only 400 watts so you cant even max out each lanes potential 🤔

    Shitty

  48. Bostjan Kosi on November 13, 2021 at 11:46 am

Well HP and HPE uses torx for allmost all of chasis, and this dates from Compaq times. And frankly with most of the servers you even get a torx tool on the back of the server. And torx is way better than philips. So even if everything else is really s….t this is something you do not need to focus so much. It outdates you seriously 🙂

  49. EliteJohnny on November 13, 2021 at 11:48 am

Try out Omen desktop its vastly superior to these HP pavilions in terms of everything but one major problem is heat
