Bro the spyware stuff is deepin related not elementary os related

  2. Yura Mocherniuk on January 5, 2021 at 1:05 am

elementary OS is Ubuntu-based distro, so it’s based on Debian, but not directly. Some people state that Pantheon is quite different from macOS desktop implementation. The only real similarity is using of dock.

Chris Try MX-Linux -Try looking at it. Have used it for older PCs, especially laptop. Out of the box – give it a try. Think it’s fine for new non technical users.

Uses it now instead of Lubuntu and XFCE

    Doesn’t suse use KDE tho?

  5. purplegoat2500 on January 5, 2021 at 1:08 am

Hey!! Opensuse runs kde out of the box and has for a long time afaik. I don’t like gnome either and I love opensuse

  6. Pablo Rey on January 5, 2021 at 1:09 am

sometimes you are using gnome without "gnowing"

  7. ChristopheR Poston on January 5, 2021 at 1:11 am

I’ve always used Fedora since I started with Linux about 5 years ago on my laptops. Always kept Gnome, although I use dash to panel extension. Works fine for my workflow.

  8. Lorre Watkins on January 5, 2021 at 1:12 am

On my older laptop 2Gen Core-i7 8 Gig Ram Geforce 280 GTXm I’m running Netrunner with its KDE and its very heavy on the resources, some I’m thinking of switching to Voyager Linux with its custom Gnome EV, I think it looks very a piling !

  9. Herebeletters on January 5, 2021 at 1:13 am

    Yo, XFCE has Xubuntu

  10. Walter Stoermer on January 5, 2021 at 1:13 am

Gnome is closer to Fedora. Debian and Ubuntu usually end up with an older version.

  11. Emilie Jade on January 5, 2021 at 1:15 am

I love playing with Plasma 5 and kde neon, BUT when it comes down to it xfce is what makes me feel comfy, have to agree with the comments about it being as ugly as sin and that the developers do themselves no favours with the look out of the box but it’s not hard to get it looking stunning.

  12. Ronald Hendrixon on January 5, 2021 at 1:15 am

Really hate the dark environments, they are super ugly, as windows 10 is ultimately the ugliest.

  13. Junhai Yang on January 5, 2021 at 1:15 am

Is the Gnome distro Fedora? Especially when these 2 dev teams are so involved with each others

  14. Mark Jones on January 5, 2021 at 1:15 am

Love Cinnamon and MATE. I hate Gnome and KDE. Still have no idea what the Gnome team were thinking turning everyones desktops into the useless tablet that they never asked for. KDE has always seemed complicated for complication sake.

  15. Ronald Hendrixon on January 5, 2021 at 1:19 am

Never mind my comments, as I am a dinosaur, lol…….

  16. vdochev on January 5, 2021 at 1:20 am

    Arch/Archlabs + Plasma KDE = perfection.

  17. Ratanon Harindej on January 5, 2021 at 1:21 am

Currently on Patheon DE. But given the customizability and functionality, I’ll definitely try KDE some day.

  18. mrfluffy on January 5, 2021 at 1:21 am

    Btw i use arch + i3

  19. Kurt on January 5, 2021 at 1:22 am

I’m interested in your opinion of KISS Linux with sowm.

  20. Suryanata Vincent on January 5, 2021 at 1:22 am

    KDE + fedora

  21. Calvin Londt on January 5, 2021 at 1:23 am

I’m a KDE user since 2011, tinkered with a few others but could never replicate my workflow from it anywhere else, its customisation features are extensive and unmatched.

  22. Dezzor Hellian on January 5, 2021 at 1:26 am

What does he mean by dependency as far as i know you can install any desktop environment any distro?

Finally someone mention Deepin as an alternative. I have Deepin 15.11 on my two PCs. Cheers!

Window Maker is on the list πŸ€“

  25. JEFF SLIM on January 5, 2021 at 1:33 am

But which DE are you using on your system in this video? I like how it looks and the presence of tray icons. I didn’t manage to make them work on Pop!_OS in GNOME with Topicons Plus extension.

  26. Ludwig Boyadjian on January 5, 2021 at 1:33 am

I thought that xfce desktop environment is associated with xubuntu distro and ice with Kubuntu. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

  27. Terry Olson on January 5, 2021 at 1:33 am

Fluxbox – You’ll never go back.

  28. Maarten c on January 5, 2021 at 1:35 am

I love KDE and Ubuntu is my favorite distro.

  29. Fmamarksman on January 5, 2021 at 1:37 am

I started with cinnamon on mint, just installed plasma over the top. Like it so far, but every time i reboot, everything on the panel shifts to the left. Its crazy how light it is compared to cinnamon considering how many more animations there are.

Budgie is my go to distro πŸ™‚

  31. M-2 Hydra on January 5, 2021 at 1:38 am

  32. Abdou MHN on January 5, 2021 at 1:40 am

What is the best distro between Manjaro KDE , KDE Neon and Linux Mint Cinnamon for daily use ?! and for an amateur who wants to go deeper into the linux world ??

  33. P.J on January 5, 2021 at 1:41 am

For those who really don’t like GNOME, I have some questions for you:
1- Why you don’t like its workflow?
2- Is it because it isn’t enough like ‘Windows desktop paradigm’ ?
3- It is not enough like the OS/X desktop paradigm?
4- It’s philosphical and you hate because you want to hate it… and not because it is bad.

From what I see and read (or hear here) most of the time about people who doesn’t like GNOME, it’s because they didn’t really embrace it to understand it. They want something else (Windows GUI or OS/X) and they can’t find it.

  34. Jason C. on January 5, 2021 at 1:43 am

I prefer stable and well supported.

  35. Jeff N on January 5, 2021 at 1:44 am

I kind of like the kde desktop because of how incredibly flexible it is but it has to be will implemented into the disto to work will. So I was using Feren OS, Great OS and the creator has some great ideas but will, It’s kind of like kde 5 years ago and for newbies needs a little more work to be ready for prime time. Iv’e switched to MX kde and I’m hoping with there track record to be using it for many years to come any thoughts?

  36. Ronald Hendrixon on January 5, 2021 at 1:45 am

    xp look is great.

  37. S Aurelius on January 5, 2021 at 1:45 am

I like MATE a lot, but prefer the Dolphin file manager, because you can have video thumbnails. Any advice on what desktop environment might be better for me? Dolphin runs kind of janky in MATE. Cinnamon???

i though xfce was good looking until i booted fedora, btw i’m using manjaro xfce right now so they made a pretty good job with it

  42. Hentai Nat on January 5, 2021 at 1:49 am

Weird that you use Vivaldi but not use the keyboard shortcuts to change and close tabs, or mouse gestures.

  43. Baltus Dekker on January 5, 2021 at 1:50 am

Default MATE does look horrid, but with the right theme it can look fantastic. (the same could probably be said for all these)

  44. Tatu on January 5, 2021 at 1:51 am

Gnome is great. The main reason I can’t go back to Windows. I can’t get that workflow any other way

  45. Oliver Downing on January 5, 2021 at 1:51 am

I like deepin or gnome but I use a bunch of gnome extensions with gnome and change the wallpaper to make it do some of the things I want it to. I still would rather have the deepin style category based app menu but the only gnome ecyension I can find to do that sucks and I don’t know how to make my own yet

Gnome 3 is a jump that allowed me to better my workflow

  48. FAT BEARD on January 5, 2021 at 1:54 am

I just started out on Linux this February and so I am on Linux Mint: Cinnamon. I do want to branch out and check out other Distros like you recommend and Environments. I have changed the Cinnamon Environment a bit to fee like more of Windows so I can get used to things as I learn more. Once I can afford to build a new PC, I will go advance and try out Arch based and go from there.

  49. Linux Zenwalker on January 5, 2021 at 1:54 am

    Debian XFCE all the way
