can someone recommend a pair of tower speakers around $400-$500?

  2. Kevin West on October 7, 2021 at 8:48 am

I use speakers out of a Ford tempo for my fronts and rears. My center speaker out of an old radio and receiver I got for a trade of bbq grill. Sounds awesome 👍

  3. Michel Linschoten on October 7, 2021 at 8:49 am

My speakers back in the 70ts were 900usd new.

Now they go for up to 5000usd on eBay 😂

This video is very difficult to follow visually because of the rapid fire screen changes . It like watching a rap video where images are changing every second with little continuity . Very difficult to watch.

  5. Peel P50 on October 7, 2021 at 8:53 am

I got there cheap bookshelf speakers instead….I have made big mistake to not get the towers

  6. Rahul on October 7, 2021 at 8:57 am

Well if you are thinking about duel tower speakers on shoe string budget (90 $) that sound as good as speakers priced 3 times higher check out the one I am using. It’s called OBAGE DT 2605

If you can get the older Klipsch SF-2’s used for under $200, they are bad ass, imaging is really good, and they are very easy to power with their high sensitivity…

  8. No Name on October 7, 2021 at 8:59 am

With the $200 limit you cut out a lot good sounding speakers that are around $500 to $600 a pair. A $700 limit would have included some truly good stuff.

Max headroom! Best signal intrusion ever

  10. dewdorama on October 7, 2021 at 9:02 am

    Superb!👌

  13. Timothy on October 7, 2021 at 9:06 am

Hmmm what would happen if jou would DSP crossover and active amp play these?

  14. Eric Thompson on October 7, 2021 at 9:08 am

Do this for $500-1000 a pair

  15. LUV APARRI on October 7, 2021 at 9:09 am

Hello guys, I’ve listened to you guys and it’s interesting maybe I can help out something in making a nice crossovers for a speaker system.

  16. Alexander Scott on October 7, 2021 at 9:09 am

When i see Gene taking to these two youngsters, it SO reminds me of Beavis n Butthead "kick me in the Jimmy" Episode!
    Tell me im wrong!! Lol!

  20. Mike Dinno on October 7, 2021 at 9:12 am

I have 20+ year old NHT SuperTwo towers that I still use but been thinking about upgrading.. You think these Dayton Audio sound better than those if you had to guess?

  21. Health Supreme! on October 7, 2021 at 9:12 am

Do you guys think that the shelf version of these (Monoprice MP-65RT) could make a good Atmos in-ceiling alternative? Given that should add a real 2-way crossover to the speakers.

  22. Jeff Sloane on October 7, 2021 at 9:12 am

You are on to something with the X over mod for the Monoprice towers. If Audioholics can sell books, why can’t they sell hop up kits? Another great video!

  23. Andrew Russell on October 7, 2021 at 9:14 am

Um that was like a 80 degree angle, not a 55. 90 degree turn would be going from straight ahead to straight to your right, 1/4 circle.
Basically just aim you speakers straight forward and sit a little close and you’ll be in that sweet spot. These speakers are pretty nice for that price

  24. Bill Smith on October 7, 2021 at 9:15 am

If you try to stiffen the enclosure you are going to change the ring of the cabinet. The enclosure is a fluke. It is part of the reason that they sound much better off-axis.

  25. Sherry Cox on October 7, 2021 at 9:16 am

Here’s a list that helped me out.

Great stuff Gene! Would love to see some opinions on the Micca RB42 reference bookshelf speakers and Jamo S 803’s for budget spenders.

  27. Carl Sitler on October 7, 2021 at 9:17 am

I’d like ribbon tweeter like Emotiva tower. I’d love Martin Logan Motion 60s.

  28. Joe Cue on October 7, 2021 at 9:19 am

    JBL LX500

  29. Garrett Graf on October 7, 2021 at 9:20 am

Pioneer S-77Twin is very affordable and sounds just as good as a set of JBLs or even KEFs.

  30. Neil Blanchard on October 7, 2021 at 9:21 am

I hope someone can try to modify the Dayton Audio MK442T with some damping material(s) in the transmission line. This speaker seems to have done a lot of things right, and if those dips can be tamed / reduced, then this is even more of a hidden gem.

  31. Retired at 49 on October 7, 2021 at 9:22 am

I would imagine if you couldnt afford a decent set of speakers it would make alot of sense to build your own because manufacturers will never give you quality drivers and crossovers at a low price. I would imagine even if you only had 2 hundred dollars ,building your own would give you really decent parts. I dont know that’s what I would do……. actually this gives me an idea to find out if I can build a set of speakers that measure as good as a set of so called high quality speakers. A second option may be to just buy used. I realize most people who sell there used speakers think there still worth what they originally paid but some people actually have a soul and sell them at a reasonable price.

  32. David Huffman on October 7, 2021 at 9:23 am

Would better woofers in the Mono price cabs make them sound better along with a better X-over?

  33. James Fisher on October 7, 2021 at 9:24 am

that mono speaker is a POS!! A WASTE OF MONEY

  34. Earlis Marks on October 7, 2021 at 9:24 am

My thing is for a few dollars more you can get the Polk T50 or the or the Pioneer sp – fs52.

  35. science explorer on October 7, 2021 at 9:24 am

I have an Onkio amplifier receiver with 2 Jenson front speaker, two Yamaha subs and onkio fronts as my rear channels. my particular . im struggling with getting booming sounds from my subs. Anything i can do to getting bass with no distortion

  36. Carl Sitler on October 7, 2021 at 9:25 am

My used Klipsch Mirage OM-9s were $150.

  37. Ba'al on October 7, 2021 at 9:26 am

I have my MK442T’s hooked up to my Marantz SR5013 and they sound amazing.

  38. Doug G on October 7, 2021 at 9:26 am

My bookshelves weigh more haha! By twice almost. Would be a decent starter speaker though. Easy gift to get a young person started in the hobby.

  39. Neil Blanchard on October 7, 2021 at 9:27 am

Having two woofers would tend to reduce the floor cancellation – both because each woofer will cancel at different frequencies, and the vertical combing will limit the floor cancellation; as any MTM speaker will do.

  40. konjiki240sx on October 7, 2021 at 9:29 am

I would have love to have seen the bic America dv64’s on here. They seem to be a great buy when they are on sale.

  41. Jay P. on October 7, 2021 at 9:29 am

Polk monitor 60’s fronts Polk Cs10 Center and Polk tsi100 surrounds. That’s my budget 🤷🏾‍♂️

  42. Ibhenriksen on October 7, 2021 at 9:30 am

They’re not really tower speakers. They’re bookshelf speakers without the need for a stand!🙂

  43. worm2500 on October 7, 2021 at 9:32 am

Where can I find more information on the crossover by Dennis Murphy for the monoprice?

  44. Leigh Wilson Artist on October 7, 2021 at 9:33 am

New to Audioholics channel but am digging these speaker reviews, seeing these measurements on and off axis is a huge help for setting these up for would be buyers.👍

  45. Darth Luke on October 7, 2021 at 9:33 am

Look at the polk t50 i have them and they are amazing for the price.

  46. Jonathan Fielding on October 7, 2021 at 9:35 am

That is NOT a transmission line box. It’s just ported bc it has a coupled chamber. The arrows are wrong. The air doesn’t flow down into the cavity them up. That is the sealed portion and the rest is a long port. Transmission lines don’t have chambers. They are ALL port only whose length is 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 wavelength of the Fs.

  47. Jonathan Fielding on October 7, 2021 at 9:37 am

I don’t mean to be rude, I’m asking this honestly – does that guy on the right have turrets?

  48. Glenn Jones on October 7, 2021 at 9:40 am

It’s quite obvious these speakers DO sound shockingly close to much higher price designs and you guys are almost afraid to just admit it as not to shatter the "truths" we live by….lol

  49. Gara Von Hoiwkenzoiber on October 7, 2021 at 9:41 am

    lol that crossover
you could sell them to audiophiles as "minimum internal audio pathway"

  50. StonedRambo01 on October 7, 2021 at 9:43 am

Are you guys hearing about any delays on av receivers this year?? Are things coming out anytime soon?
