Oh no! You guys don’t get it at all! I’m talking really old. Not my age old. Or someone with a "college degree" old. I’m talking about old fashioned old. I need a flip phone. That’s what my old buddy dude neighbor wants. No touch screen. He’s a farmer. And old farmer. He builds buggies and break horses to pull. Milks a goat.

my mom is 84 years old. She has a smartphone and is always having trouble she always puts it on airplane mode and you try to tell her and she gets really mad and says I didn’t move anything on this freaking phone she complains about it all day long that she can’t make calls and people can’t call her the phone is no good. The phone is working fine it’s her pushing all sorts of buttons and not listening and she gets upset

  3. Dom on October 12, 2020 at 3:16 pm

Personally, I think you need to go over a phone that gives YouTube, camera and Google. That’s really all a lot of people need anyway.

  4. art mx on October 12, 2020 at 3:18 pm

Talk to much about seniors and wait to much for the phones. Seniors do not have much time to wait.

  5. Kathleen Cote-Ethier on October 12, 2020 at 3:19 pm

My MOM is 88 & has a flip phone that no longer works. She’s not interested in learning how to use a smart phone because she can’t see well for starters so the buttons are better for her, she tries to use my Iphone & it’s too touch sensitive & she’s always hitting the wrong buttons, then she gets all upset & can’t do anything after that. It’s just too much for someone her age……she’s familiar with flip phones so I’m getting her a Jitterbug or a Verizon flip phone because thats what’s best for her….Your not taking all the physical & mental challenges seniors face, such as sight & hearing to mental confusion( when they make mistakes with new technology). Mom just wants to make calls, that’s it…..flip phones do a wonderful service for seniors. Thanks for your Commentary though.

  6. treiz on October 12, 2020 at 3:20 pm

Having given my senior a smart phone I can attest that yes, they CAN be tripped up by all the bells and whistles. Bad advice.

I am searching for my 100-year-old father-in-law. A number pad is a reasonably new technology for him. Nothing you have said applies. His current flip phone is too complicated. I was looking for a simpler smartphone that would be mostly voice-activated, one that he could pick up and say, "call Jim" or "send me an uber to go to Murry’s Market"

  9. scythereplays on October 12, 2020 at 3:23 pm

  11. Madelyn L. on October 12, 2020 at 3:24 pm

SO glad to hear your attitude. I didn’t know I was so fearful, afraid of change and confused until I watched those “J” ads. And as someone so aptly put it, our generation actually created those computers we are supposedly so afraid of! I’m 71 and 30 years ago wrote a book for attorneys on how to practice law using their computers, also created a software program for judges to access jury instructions (instead of paging through 3-ring binders of preprinted text). So YES I am very well versed on what computers/phones can do. Appreciate the respect. I was bursting to make my comment *right now* and now I”ll get back to your show. My biggest hurdle is cost vs features. Hope you’ll address that. Thanks guys, you’re great (but please stop wearing those nerdy sweatshirts)!

Sorry these guys don’t know what they are talking about hello they are far from old. Seniors DON’T like using smartphones they cant understand how they work. My 83 year old mom can figure out how to shut youtube down or skip the ads or check her voice mail. And Mom hated her iphone. Sound like they like apple note the laptops being used no thanks .

  17. wydopnthrtl on October 12, 2020 at 3:29 pm

Its amazing… you two completely don’t understand the struggle that elderly have w/smart phones.
You two are looking though only your own minds eye and *NOT* the viewpoint of those who your trying to appeal to.

If we were to reverse the rolls… lets put you in front of an old school stamping die, screw machine, lathe, ect.. and with *only someone talking at you for 5 minutes* … GO and make parts. You would feel completely inadequate, overwhelmed, and not have a clue once you got to the first previously unexplained hurdle.

  18. Marshall Moghaddam on October 12, 2020 at 3:33 pm

  20. dan dandan on October 12, 2020 at 3:36 pm

this was a massive advert for apple… i hate apple it has caused me to waste far too much time when both of my grandparents lock themselves out of their iphones because iphone is ott on security

  21. K FM on October 12, 2020 at 3:38 pm

While I appreciate your comments in general about the smart phone, I have to say you missed my mark for guiding me to the best cell phone for my 98 yo mother. While extremely coherent she suffers from macular degeneration and is hard of hearing. You failed to cover these points and phones geared to these specific ailments (which are quite common in the elderly).

  22. Stella Clavijo on October 12, 2020 at 3:40 pm

There is all kind of people and, yes there are seniors that want something very simple and easy. One is my father. I was hoping to get a list of the best phones and most easy to handle. ( thank you for mentioning the worse phones and why)

  23. Dog Man on October 12, 2020 at 3:40 pm

I totally agree at age 70-years. I had a little trouble at first jumping into iPhones. Today I have the 7-iPhone. Few things that were not stated. Once setup presses the side button 5-times to call 911 and alerts 5- programed in friends to your emergency. If in an accident and unable to tale the emergency crews that responded know how to hit while on lock screen 911 then MEDICAL ID, showing all my medical information and names and a number of doctors, family and others. And I never had to say a word. My only real back step is all the new terminology. Lots more but I forget stuff.

  24. William Kennedy on October 12, 2020 at 3:41 pm

6 1/2 minutes of 2 guys in love with their voice, pitiful

  25. Marks Man on October 12, 2020 at 3:42 pm

    Pointless

  26. KHALIIL01 on October 12, 2020 at 3:42 pm

iPhones can also be customized, it’s just seems to be a big secret on how to do it.
Just ask Siri or the Google Assistant “female” who won’t allow me to give her a name.

  27. Moisaro1 on October 12, 2020 at 3:43 pm

Why not just say you are from Apple, the shittiest, most corrupt company on earth.

  28. Manuel Perez on October 12, 2020 at 3:43 pm

The senior I’m shopping for is overwhelmed by her iphone. She does NOT want to learn how to use it. At 86 yoa she’s entitled to have a simpler phone. Guess I’ll go elsewhere for recommendations.

  29. H G on October 12, 2020 at 3:44 pm

i got a refurbished LG v30 for $100 on amazon… better specs than any entry level phone from tmobile… and you can customize the GUI for freeeeeeeeeeeeee. easy

  30. airpoint on October 12, 2020 at 3:46 pm

Your video is titled and description optimised for "best cell phones for seniors" yet the video itself is 12 minutes of you saying some seniors can learn and understand technology faster and easier than their peers… Dishonest, misleading, self-promoting, incompetent bucket of crap, is what this is IMHFO

  31. Bill Renyak on October 12, 2020 at 3:47 pm

  33. Haydan Buehler on October 12, 2020 at 3:49 pm

Apple Sucks don’t buy from them.

  34. The Real Tmac on October 12, 2020 at 3:49 pm

This video totally misses the point. Most seniors JUST WANT TO MAKE A PHONE CALL. Not update apps, download security patches, listen to spotify, charge their phone everyday, pay extra for data, have notifications all over the place, etc.

I am not a senior but I use flip phones Can’t stand smartphones

  38. Leo Driscoll on October 12, 2020 at 3:54 pm

Listen to the recommendations you are making for phones…… you are still making assumptions about seniors by thinking the phones need to be cheap. We are just people, but older, and cover the range of wealth just like younger people. The issue I have using phone is it is hard for me to text using the tiny keys. part of this is because I am 6′ 4" and 220 lbs, have large hands, and need glasses for near sight. My next phone will be a LG phone with the second screen option so I can set it up to use one entire screen for texting keyboard, and the large size screens will be nice for my eyes also. The LG is still fully featured and will do anything a person could want.

0:40 Well I guess this video is bs then cuz that is my #1 requirement for my dad who IS exactly that. Cheers.

  40. Jimmy Trevino on October 12, 2020 at 3:58 pm

Jimbo dog says why do people in Louisiana on food stamps recieve free cell phone. and now we the government should give free cell. phone to citizens on social security to enter medical facilities .because of the covid 19.

  41. Kiley Barri on October 12, 2020 at 3:59 pm

this was so informative…i totally was looking at the jitterbug for my dad who is an active 90 year old…but looking into it i was thinking the same thing as all the stuff you mentioned like the screen size, and the yes no buttons…so funny….

  42. D clo on October 12, 2020 at 3:59 pm

My dad is 92, he ain’t using no iPhone…..

  43. Mercuery on October 12, 2020 at 4:00 pm

too much talk, too little ‘show’ or demo on the products itself

  44. Vincente Cabrera on October 12, 2020 at 4:01 pm

I’m sorry. Maybe this was specific towards seniors with no disabilities or ones that may not impede in the use of any phone but again maybe you have a video already on what I’m looking for?

Any recommendations for seniors who do not have internet access? I’m looking at getting my mom a phone to replace her old flip phone. This past weekend she pulled out an add for the Jitterbug phone. There’s the flip phone, which I agree is terrible and there is a "Smartphone" option now as well that I’m not sure about. Would an iPhone still be the way to go even if she doesn’t have internet service at the house? Thanks in advance.

  47. KHALIIL01 on October 12, 2020 at 4:06 pm

Waiting for this international lockdown to end so I can visit my mom to set her up with an iPhone 📱 iWatch ⌚️series 5 with fall detection and heart rate monitoring, cellular service, and biometric locks so she doesn’t have to remember to carry keys 🔑, and I can open doors 🚪 for emergency services no matter where I am if she can’t.
She is still very active and only has minor health problems, but accidents happen.

  48. EcoR1 on October 12, 2020 at 4:07 pm

Idk, sounds like a bunch of iPhone d! (k suckers.

  49. Robotrik1 on October 12, 2020 at 4:09 pm

There’s a … range of ‘seniors’ , which is why I’m sorry to say that despite the best intentions, this is not an "all inclusive" guide .
Some seniors can be reduced to age ranges (65-78) for example — the age applicable for this video in general .
Other’s are condition specific (eye sight, tactile ability, mental faculty , other health concerns etc.) .

A relative of mine (age 82), who has taught / played the piano until she was 79 — despite having had excellent finger movement & sensitivity for the majority of her life, now has serious issues with anything on a smartphone / tablet that has to do with sliding , which is why flip phones do work for her (we’ve gotten her a flip phone called "mio F610" that has as big a buttons as the biggest iPhone) , and while that’s a "working solution" for now, we’re worried about the small battery of that phone (only 800Mah) , so we’re looking into getting her a dedicated "senior smart phone" (one with pre-installed large / simplified interface) , or get in a regular smart phone and put on an app that has a ‘skin’ that is more fitting for elders (big buttons, shortened / easy interface) . I don’t want to mention any in case they don’t work well or to make it appear that I’m doing an advert here, which I’m not .

I appreciate the intent here in this vid, but like I said, we have among us ppl with different levels of ability & capability , along with parts from a generation who could not program the clock on a VCR . Perhaps you may know what that is … — and how you could tell in the olden days the level of tech literacy in a home by just looking at the blinking VCR clock @ 00:00 . 😉

  50. David Bolger on October 12, 2020 at 4:09 pm

I totally agree with you about the Jitterbug. I got one and sent it back the next week. A TERRIBLE phone in so many ways.
