Daytons are way too muddy
Newb here. How exactly do you connect the Dayton’s (or any passive speaker at that) to a computer?
I have the FS52’s and I really like them. I have them paired with an Onkyo receiver, the matching Pioneer center channel, two Polk Audio PSW10 subwoofers and some generic in ceiling surrounds. This setup is really great and I think for movies and video games it’s just about perfect. I can’t imagine needing more in those scenarios. I don’t have a bunch of audiophile friends, but this system absolutely destroys any sound bars etc. that I’ve ever heard at other friends places. I think the audio can compete with a movie theater audio experience. For music, I think they’re great, but not end-game for me. I’m reluctant to upgrade them, though, because it’s hard to personally test this stuff out and I still really like them. This is an unfair comparison, but listening to music on my HiFiMan Sundaras is much better than from these speakers. Overall, I love your video and I completely agree that these speakers rock. If you pair them with a receiver, center channel, sub, and some surrounds you’re looking at around $1,000 for a fully capable sound system for music and a near end-game home theater experience for most users, way better than any soundbar at any price, for example. Thanks for all your hard work!
Good choice on the Marantz. Marantz has been notoriously underrated in the power section , that 2220 is putting out more than 20 watts. Nice review, keep up the good work.
Does any of following amplifiers support Pioneer FS52?
1. Yamaha R-S202BL
2. Yamaha A-S501BL
3. NAD 3020 V2
I would love to hear how the bic America dv64’s do in comparison…
Thank you, Joe! Great video. To my ears in comparison to the Original the Pioneers sound too bright and the Daytons too dark.
Love your leaderboard, makes your review more worthwhile than all the other reviewers.
You should have at least 10.000.000 subs mate…underated for sure
dayton sounds better.
Thanks for your video. This is at a higher price point (by a lot!) but they are really high quality and value. These speakers are from someone who’s been doing this for 40 years. Possibly of interest: https://youtu.be/Hn3h3Tk6PzE
The Daytons need much power to play deep bass i run them with Pioneer A-91D sounds wonderful
Tried and true brands are always your best bet. If possible go find a place where you can actually go hear the sound. No substitute for actual hearing your audio. My father purchased a Pioneer system for his 1970 something Datsun King Cab pickup truck back when I was a little kid. Stick with the tried and true brands if you want satisfaction. You typically get what you pay for.
I use the pioneers for my right and left channels on my 7.1 surround system and they’re absolutely amazing for that. Got both speakers off craigslist for $80. At $40 a piece I really can’t complain.
Them Pioneer SP-FS52 doesn’t exist anymore
What is the best I can get for $400, It doesn’t matter if it’s powered bookshelf speakers or two speakers and a receiver, soundbar with sub, 3.1 soundbar, etc. whatever you can think of give me the best for under $400! I need them to hook up to a TV for movies and music, I want the best combo for $400?
theyre 179 EACH.. F that lol (pioneer)
These Pioneers sound good with only 20w you said?
Can’t get the FS52’s anymore so the MK442’s win lol
PIONEERS ARE $500 A PAIR ON AMAZON OR BEST BUY IN CANADA ,TALK ABOUT GETTING SCREWED !!
52s. Out of stock…
Hey Joe can you do a sound review on the Cerwin Vega SL-12 ?
The 3 khz ranger has a broader dip in the other frequencies than does the pioneer, and there is a bump up in the midbass range for the Daytons. A good EQ can fix those areas for the Dayton.
For some reason I only feel like the only good speakers for me gotta have the speakers visible
Hi, old thread, I know, I notice you used a Marantz vintage receiver with the fs52 , I assume they have the old still spring clips, what cable did you use????? Thank you!! Great channel
I can’t find the Pioneers under $250 anymore : (
I have the whole line of these speakers including 2 subs and the atmos modules. I run it as a 5.2.2 with a pioneer elite receiver and the 52’s upfront. I’ve had this set up for about 2 years now ,and I totally love them! I’ve had many systems over the last 20 plus years, and some costing a lot more but these are my favourite. The pioneer spfs 52’s are amazing period! Forget the insanely low price….. if these were $1000 a pair they’d still be worth it. Andrew Jones is the man!👍👍🔊🔊
Definitely the Pioneers win in the tonal test.
If I have an 8 ohm receiver, can I use 6 ohm speakers?
Pioneer FS52 No longer available.
They ain’t $200 anymore! 😵
What to get. Small room…towers.
Joe what the hell are you talking about?
Thanks, I have been wondering, I always liked there car speakers, im gonna try them
Great video and where is that one guy in every video on YouTube requesting "Song please and review 1970 JBL made by kinrick please song please "
Great video Joe. Looking to get these Pioneer Tower speakers. What is a good budget amplifier to push these speakers? I thought about getting the Edifier R1280DB but after looking at the price for the stands it was going to add up to almost the cost of the towers. The big difference is that the tower will need an amplifier as apposed to the bookshelf speaker.
Hello, I’m new here. I really like your opinions and layouts of components you review. I have a question for you. I recently became interested in home audio. I bought a pair of 301’s and a new Sony 2 channel receiver. I fall into the category of the guy who likes beats headphones lol. I want a new pair of tower speakers that produce insane bass. No sub needed. I was thinking about Cerwin Vega sl-12. Can you review them or give suggestions to something similar that might be better?
Can you do a comparison between Polk Audio T 50 Series and Pioneer FS52 please? 🙂
DR IACOZ KNOWS
Dayton’s are $200 for a pair, pioneers are $179 for a single yet you say the pioneers are cheaper… The pioneers are nearly twice as much and should sound better. I think if you did the comparison with proper pricing, things would be a little more balanced. I just couldn’t stop thinking about this while watching.
I like the tall skinny towers with multiple drivers
Takes me about 3 hours to build stands sanding, paint and dry time, but I love Tower speakers.
I suggest the Polk audio T150 it’s 100 bucks a piece and they sound great
i still think that the solution bass box under a satellite is the top solution … low Hz vibrations control is a huge technical challenge
Mivoc SB238 – 150€ a pair, used to be more expensive though. Or build them yourself from Mivoc SB25 kit that’s 90€ a pair – just add wood. The SB25 can be built either as a bass reflex version similar to mass market variant, or a transmission line.
Which would be better for "home theater" my simple budget 5.1
How would you compare them to the Dinas? 🙂
how does fs52 vs 51 far? does the sound the same? or hug different?
Hi Joe. Which one is better in your opinion when it comes to sound? Pioneer sp fs52 vs Elac b6.2
Dayton – has harsh highs, frequencies are all over, not well controlled.
Pioneer – is tighter, highs are better, but lower ones are overwhelming.
However, it depends on the taste, and may change in the live presentation.
