Best Android Launchers (2021)

Best Android Launchers (2021)

Reviews of the best Android launchers as we hit 2021, from classics like Nova and Microsoft Launcher to new (and free) downloads like Ratio. These are my favourites available right now on the Google Play Store, and while most cost nothing, some charge a small fee to unlock all of the premium features.

We start with the still peerless Nova (in full Prime glory), which remains one of the greatest options ever. Hyperion also offers a near stock Android 11 vibe, but with seriously impressive personalised options under the surface.

Ratio is one of the new kids on the block, with a streamlined approach similar to Niagara and KISS. Android is unrecognisable with any of those on board, great for keeping yourself focused.

Poco Launcher 2.0 is a light and fast launcher which proves perfect for less capable phones, while Lawnchair has lots to love. Meanwhile fans of BlackBerry and Microsoft are well catered for with the manufacturers’ excellent Google Play offerings. Speaking of which, Windows Phone fans should definitely check out Square Home, which replicates that slick tile-based desktop.

The full list of all included Android launchers in my best of 2021 round-up is right here:

Nova
Poco 2.0
Hyperion
Big Launcher
Action Launcher (Pixel Edition)
Customized Pixel Launcher
Ratio
Lawnchair
BlackBerry Launcher
Microsoft Launcher v6
Square Home
Niagara
KISS
Before Launcher
Smart Launcher 5

I used Smart Launcher on my Android 4. Just got a new one (11), tried a bunch of launchers out, and went right back to Smart Launcher.

I tried Niagara and I like it’s intended function but not its form. Might try KISS and Before.

Microsoft Launcher is surprisingly similar to iPhone, where you swipe to the left to get a scrolling list of widgets, which I loved on iPhone. They may not be Android widgets but the presentation of information is appealing to me.

Update: I like KISS a lot. Thank you!

Checkout Windows 10 launcher, like having mini computer.👍👍

  13. TheMrreese24 on January 12, 2022 at 4:20 pm

Gotta have a clean launcher, Microsofts dock options are elite with the ability to always hide and gesture to slide up, with the ability to use galaxy icons and the finishing touch being circle launcher light to keep everything a swipe or tap away, I have about 10 total widgets across 4 screens, super clean, a little work but organized and sleek. I hate a dock that can’t be moved.

  14. Muyanzi Reid on January 12, 2022 at 4:20 pm

I have a Surface Duo 1 which makes a lot of these launchers unusable using 2 screens but found that the Minimal Launchers like AP15, Niagara, and Launcher 10 are the best. If occasionally I want a stock Android launcher Lawnchair is the best if I don’t want to use boring ass Microsoft Launcher that comes with it.

  15. HardwareViewer on January 12, 2022 at 4:22 pm

    Hello!
Can you do Smart Launcher 6 soon?
I want to see your opinions thru its new features like an innovative grid system, design tweaks and improved widget pages.

I’ve been using nova launcher prime with whicons on every android phone i’ve had since 2012 or 2013,, always runs well even on cheap crap phones, whatever your android device nova doesnt dissapoint, still love it. Just as i’ve been using rainmeter on my PC for over 15 years (Windows XP, vista, 7, 8, 10) , even if its a new environment it always makes it feel like home, as you can just make the home screen look the same :).

Hi. Is there a good third-party launcher that is fully compatible with Android 11’s gesture navigation and that enables you to hide apps easily similar to Oxygen OS & MIUI? (As I heard Samsung’s One UI is notorious in "restricting" gesture navigations functionality within One UI but i’m not sure if that changed now.)

  40. Max and Haf on January 12, 2022 at 4:56 pm
