In this video I show you my audiophile 2.1 speaker setup. I use the 75W Micca MB42X bookshelf speakers, a Lepy LP-2020A+ stereo 20W amplifier, and a 10 inch powered sub. This speaker system provides excellent fidelity for both music and movies, and is (in my opinion) the best speaker system for gaming. These speakers have good bass, clear treble, and plenty of volume. These speakers can get LOUD!

The Micca MB42X speakers are the best audiophile speakers you can get for under $100, and some of the best affordable audiophile speakers on the market. This DIY setup will help you put together budget audiophile speakers that sound great and are easy on the wallet.

These 2.1 speakers for PC can also be plugged into a phone or into a TV if you want to create a high quality home theater setup. In fact, since the LP-2020A amplifier has both a 3.5mm and RCA inputs, it can be hooked up to just about anything that can play music!

I’m disappointed that I can’t find a sub withing even the $250 range that is rated for 20hz. To be fair, I didn’t look very hard, but I think I’ll stick with a 2.0 setup until I can get something that gets full range.

  2. H C on July 30, 2021 at 9:24 pm

This guy is a complete moron. “Audio file speaker setup.” 😂 You gotta be kidding me. I’m not going to lie his micca speakers are not too bad but for about $40 more he could of gotten the micca rb42’s which are mind blowingly better and when he showed that amp I nearly pissed myself. THAT THING IS TRASH. No where near hifi quality levels of sound. I have so many more desk top amps that will blow this setup out of the water especially for $250. Don’t listen to this guy. If you want to spend $250 and get an actually hifi audio file setup buy micca rb42’s and a topping pa30 amplifier and your socks will get blown off. You’ll thank me later.

    Where’s the dac

  4. Extra Bass on July 30, 2021 at 9:24 pm

Thank you, I didn’t know that you needed to route the wire from the app through the sub

  5. Hojang on July 30, 2021 at 9:25 pm

where do you put the subwoofer

  6. Uche Oji on July 30, 2021 at 9:27 pm

Watched this and realised I’d rather not do DIY.

  7. SteveGonePhyco on July 30, 2021 at 9:29 pm

Question from 2020! What if your PC’s Motherboard has inputs/outputs for high-end speakers, do I still need to use the Headset output or can I use those instead?

  8. Paulo Salvatore on July 30, 2021 at 9:29 pm

I have the same gear… just source>amp>speakrs tho mine are pioneer… n has everything in it + karaoke with FX,EQ..almost like a stuido.. n all that just for 140$ ^^

Just an ignorant question. If I purchased everything on the list. Could I use my phone to play music through all of this? So I wouldn’t need to buy anything else? I have a $300 budget and only listen to music and don’t want to buy some Bose all in one crap. Can I buy all the components listed here from amazon and listen to music from my iPhone from Spotify or Amazon or whatever? In other words, I’m not gaming or watching movies. Just music. Will this work for me?

  10. IOWAudio Reviews on July 30, 2021 at 9:30 pm

The term Audiophile is used quite loosely these days and this is a good example. Considering a system like this "audiophile" is a misconception. The Micca speakers and Dayton sub are ok but the Lepy mini amp is garbage really. Why not a set of powered monitors like the JBL 305P or Fluid Audio F5. About the same price, less wires, more power, and will definitely sound better.

  11. Ryan Pee on July 30, 2021 at 9:32 pm

Thank you for this video, I was looking for an entry level setup and this was the easiest video for those looking to go into the hobby. I bought the Micca MB42X and an amp from Aliexpress for around 20USD, but i have some hesitations buying a subwoofer that is more expensive than the speakers, so i will continue looking around first

  12. Hamurai on July 30, 2021 at 9:34 pm

Would this setup without the sub be better then the Thornet & vander Kürbis BT 340w or fluance Ai40

  14. Luuk de Beijer on July 30, 2021 at 9:36 pm

but wait. how do you connect a sub into a stereo amp?

  15. Zachary Darner on July 30, 2021 at 9:38 pm

you better get a good dac. I’m not joking the behringer you control UCA 202 is a good one that you plug in via USB and then uses RCA cables to go into the amp it is really good and you can go into your sound settings and change your audio quality to the highest setting I really recommended this

  16. MKM on July 30, 2021 at 9:38 pm

How would this setup compare sound quality-wise compared to say the Kanto YU6’s? I like the idea of a powered speaker and having everything all-in-one, but I also want good audio quality.

  17. Ethan M on July 30, 2021 at 9:39 pm

3:34 Is there a difference in using the 3.5mm source in rear motherboard, compared to front I/O input Ponchato uses here?

Great Craiglist / FB marketplace Setup, picked up some old Polk Bookshelf speakers and a Polk Psw108 for $15 each, grabbed the Lepy and some speaker wire off Amazon, and was good to go. The Lepy also has 2 input sources you can hookup which is great

  23. Praba Garan on July 30, 2021 at 9:47 pm

    U gave up?

  24. Zachary Darner on July 30, 2021 at 9:47 pm

all you have to do is go into your control panel and then to your sound settings then you want to click on audio devices or whatever then you need to click on the deck once the driver has downloaded you will right click on that and click preferences there you can go to the quality setting and set it to the highest one

  25. Senthil Ramesh on July 30, 2021 at 9:49 pm

Can I connect the same way as you did from pc from my tv. My TV has a 3.5 out. Should I consider anything to match the power or something ?

  26. Tabish Syed on July 30, 2021 at 9:51 pm

Bad setup. Motherboard 3.5mm is full of noise. Better to get Bluetooth bookshelf speakers that have a Sub out.

  27. Rick C on July 30, 2021 at 9:52 pm

Nice little pc setup, but i would refrain from calling it "audiophile". that little lepy distorts massively at higher volume levels….yes its clean at low volumes IF everything is working properly but its so cheaply made many of them have problems. I had to modify a few components including the main volume pot to get it sounding decent. Far from "audiophile". yikes.
And then the polk sub – its a piece of garbage. makes rumbly noises but chuffs a lot so you have to plug the port, but that reduces the output. its not musical at all. distorts easily. I owned it, upgraded shortly after.

  28. unogazzy84 on July 30, 2021 at 9:52 pm

I have good hearing and if I bought this setup It would probably take me at least one hour to tune everything to my liking. The main reason is because there is just too many knobs to adjust. I have the logitech Z 2300 and I like them. I want better speakers but with the same control system and that is hard to find.

  29. Erik on July 30, 2021 at 9:56 pm

I’ve spent hours trying to figure this out. Seriously the best video on this subject. Thank you!

  30. ForOrAgainstUs on July 30, 2021 at 9:56 pm

0:42 to 0:47… my man! I’ve been looking for something to replace my Bose Companion 3 Series II. I know this is the path I will be going down. Everyone I’ve researched so far talks about gaming headsets. Doesn’t anyone blast their music and movies and games anymore?

  31. Mihai Bălan on July 30, 2021 at 9:57 pm

I wonder if I should get a set of multimedia speakers with built in amp to plug in my laptop, or just buy a set of studio monitors and additional to that an amp like yours. I m really confused and new to audiophile setups. I wanna mention I only want to listen to music in a quality way, not produce music or edit videos professionally

  32. Aaron McLean on July 30, 2021 at 9:58 pm

This is exactly the kind of video I need so I can make my christmas list for this year. (EDIT: LOL they want $52 CAD on Amazon Canada for that power supply, what a joke)

  33. TheAgeOfAnalog on July 30, 2021 at 10:01 pm

My only issue with this recommendation is that most lower priced subs, like the one you showed, may have high level outputs, but offer no high-pass crossover, so the full frequency range is still directed to the satellite speakers. I have the Dayton Sub80 ($99) in my 2.1 setup, but I added a pair of 100hz high-pass crossovers ($30). Makes a huge difference when your tiny satellite woofers aren’t trying to play stuff that’s too low.

  34. Carew Martin on July 30, 2021 at 10:02 pm

Lepy is a knockoff of Lepai amplifiers

  35. Arun Issac on July 30, 2021 at 10:05 pm

Sorry, in what world is this setup under 250? The two stereo speakers alone are around $400?

  36. Kwistenbiebel200 on July 30, 2021 at 10:05 pm

Those Micca speakers and sub are way more expensive in Australia….as is everything tech.

  37. Jon Wendt on July 30, 2021 at 10:07 pm

Hey Man, just want to say thank you for taking the time to put this up. Bought the amp and sub you recommended along with a pair of Edifier speakers. Showing the wiring setup was also extremely helpful. For the money spent, I really cannot believe the sound that fills the room. Awesome work!!!!

  38. Vibe Grooming Studio on July 30, 2021 at 10:07 pm

Nice one pal but I think it’s better to spend more because if you spend $500-$1000 wisely, the investment will take you 20+ years and then it’s worth more than what you’ll get in return. I’ve got a yamaha rn-602 and I’ve bi amp’ed it into monitor audio bronze 2’a and it was under £500 with master cables. Now this is what I call an investment, with wireless connection I’ll be up to date for years with awesome sound. Need bass? Then spend $109 on that sub. I do respect your opinion (if there is someone out there that can’t add another $250 on top) ✌️

  39. Travis Hazure on July 30, 2021 at 10:11 pm

This video really helped. I did the same set up, just with different speakers and like it.

  40. Kevin H on July 30, 2021 at 10:11 pm

I see the psw 10 is 100 USD for you and here in Mexico it is 370 USD, wtf? I hate latin america we make 10 times less and still stuff is more expensive, please get me out of here this is unbearable.

  41. Snicker Doodle on July 30, 2021 at 10:12 pm

This is a shit idea, just get a used av reciver, overnight sensations, and a powered sub for slightly more. This make it actually possible to upgrade down the line.

  42. ForOrAgainstUs on July 30, 2021 at 10:14 pm

Thank you again. This is the route a beginner should take. It keeps everything modular. I also ordered a DAC and will be changing my audio output from the 3.5mm on the motherboard to USB, which will then be going to the Schiit Modi I bought. If needed, I can upgrade that, or the 2020A+ I bought, or the sub, or the speakers, as needed. This is the best video I could have asked for. The actual setup could have easily been under 250, as I went with Polk over Dayton for the speakers, but that may be to my regret. Who knows? This was fun!! Thank you!!!

  43. Chuma Lama on July 30, 2021 at 10:16 pm

But here in Australia that same system cost $1250!!

  44. Mark Emnace on July 30, 2021 at 10:16 pm

the high level input wires is connected to the amp right? and the output is for the miccas?

  45. babada on July 30, 2021 at 10:19 pm

I got this amp, However I’m still using a schiit modi, and an RCA switcher as I also am running a turntable to the amp.

  46. James Thomson on July 30, 2021 at 10:19 pm

I just got all the parts and put it together. Nice. Only real complaint is the MB42X speakers don’t have mounting points. I would like to get them up off the desk. If they were would I’d just screw into them, but don’t trust doing that with Carbon fibre. That’s probably more about me, than anything else. I’ll just need to see the best way to mount them, I’m sure someone on YouTube has already provided the answer.

  47. carlos oliveira on July 30, 2021 at 10:20 pm

"Audiophile" is a word thrown around very freely these days. Titled "audiophile" and repeatedly called it entry level. Waiting for the entry level Bugatti review.

  48. babada on July 30, 2021 at 10:21 pm

I have a question I’d like to ask, do rca switchers degrade audio quality? I ask because if I were to add a dac, as well as a cd player, turn table, and or cassette deck the amp only has one rca input thus the dac would have to go into that, but what about the DAC? what if it only has one RCA input on it? I’m going to have to use a switcher if I don"t want to continually plug and unplug everything.

  49. Southern Buckeye on July 30, 2021 at 10:22 pm

Great video. I Love budget set ups like this. I circumvented the tripath amp and used a set of powered bookshelf speakers that have a sub output (Insignia $80) and a 12” sub (Monoprice $90). Less than $200 and the sound is surprisingly very nice for music and movies in a small to moderately sized room.

  50. yeehaww on July 30, 2021 at 10:22 pm

do you need a dac with a gaming pc?
