AT&T Prepaid $34.99/mo Tablet/iPad Plan Canceled – Terminations Happening

AT&T Prepaid $34.99/mo Tablet/iPad Plan Canceled – Terminations Happening

Yesterday, reports started being shared that the popular AT&T DataConnect Unlimited Tablet Plan for $34.99/mo (or $40 without autopay) was suddenly gone from AT&T’s buy-a-session website.

Most of yesterday it was unclear if this was a temporary glitch (as we’ve seen before), or if the plan was being eliminated, or perhaps AT&T was in the midst of making changes to the plan terms.

Now we know: a PR contact with AT&T corporate confirmed to us the plan is indeed officially no longer available.

We are also seeing reports of AT&T suspending and terminating tablet plans that are being used in non-tablet devices like hotspots and routers.

This a very poor decision by AT&T to just shut down accounts and not offer an alternative plan to their customers. The cost for data transmission has already been absorbed when the network was built. If there was a network congestion issue reports of rampant throttling would have be pervasive, but they weren’t. So the network clearly had the headroom to support the traffic. This is just dumb considering that the promise of 5G is a huge data pipe to support the increasing demand for big data that will come. If you want to entice customers to your network you should be supplying them now. AT&T would fail as drug dealers because if you want to keep your customers addicted you can’t take away their meth they’ll just go down the street to the crack dealers house and you may never get them back.

Look. AT&T is a terrible company. I will just leave to that. Look elsewhere for your communication needs

Once these satellite companies launch service, all cell carriers will be forced to play nice and bring back all these unlimited hot spot plans or risk losing customers. They just doing this now because they can an there are no other options. Satellite gonna launch with deals to make everyone jump ship then the cell giants will offer us data for next to nothing.

I’m not too tech savvy. If you use iPad imei number how does AT&T know sim is in mobile hotspot and not in iPad

The best thing you can do is stay away from this really bad company

  12. Cynical Mikey on November 17, 2020 at 3:34 pm

Did you get any confirmation yet on whether or not a grandfather clause will exist? Or will they be terminating all accounts?

  13. greg b on November 17, 2020 at 3:35 pm

Well, AT&T charged my account like normal for $37.49 for the month….I’m not sure what to think…..regular sailing as normal

Howdy! So I have been using this AT&T Unlimited Mobile Hotspot plan for 12 months now for $34.99/month automatically billed on my wife’s (former) work Ipad IMEI number. Unfortunately, my billing card expired this month and I can’t get in to update the card details with the new card because my wife’s work Ipad is no longer in our possession. Is there a way to remotely do that billing card update that you know of so I don’t have to lose the service? I appreciate any advice! Thank you for the informative videos!

  17. K Danagger on November 17, 2020 at 3:41 pm

Everyone thinks this plan has been totally cancelled for everyone. Not true. I still have two accounts and I have family members still getting theirs auto-renewed every month also. Using it with a hotspot or modem is not the initial flag that gets you cancelled – it’s excessive data usage. If you are flagged with excessive data useage, then your IMEI will be checked and if it does not match your device, you will be cancelled.
But if you keep your data usage relatively low, then you will continue to get auto-renewed and your SIM can stay in a hotspot/router/modem with no issues.

  18. Jonathan Rodriguez on November 17, 2020 at 3:41 pm

question please answer if possible , with my current plan would I be able to add another device where it gives the option "add or edit plan " on the account? I used the plan on my hotspot but since I switched my hotspot device to a nighthawk I guess they noticed , my account is still active and I will just use it in my ipad , im planning on buying another ipad so I could have two plans since my wife and I both rely on the internet and dont want one connection with only one ipad, that way we both have internet on our tablets with unlimited hotspot. thank you

  19. Becky Horat on November 17, 2020 at 3:41 pm

Wondering if there is any more news on if ATT is shutting down those that already have these plans? It’s our only internet source where we are, so it is in our Mofi. So far we’ve been good and our data usage is under 200G/month.

  20. melquisedec sanchez on November 17, 2020 at 3:41 pm

About two years using this plan in an average hotspot use of 130gb per month.

  21. richard konsky on November 17, 2020 at 3:42 pm

an ISP under net neutrality cannot block access, change services, or alter the flow of data simply because there is something that goes on which they don’t like.

  22. Troy Yarbrough on November 17, 2020 at 3:42 pm

AT&T is cracking down, for sure. Too many people abusing the service.

  23. For My Baby on November 17, 2020 at 3:42 pm

I just received an email 3/1/20, My plan renews in 4 days.

AT&T Unlimited Usage Notification – You’re getting close to using all your high-speed data
    Dear Valued Customer,
You’ve used 16.5GB of data this month. If you use more than 22GB before your next bill period, you’ll still have unlimited data. However, your speeds may slow at times, if our network becomes congested. When that happens, we reduce speeds to give everyone the best possible experience.

  24. Tomas Thao on November 17, 2020 at 3:44 pm

Thanks for the update. I was about to go this route last week but heard about att pulling this plan out. I decided to invest in Ubifi instead.

  27. Silly on November 17, 2020 at 3:48 pm

I LITERALLY BOUGHT MY MODEM LAST WEEK AND A SIM WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME

  28. Dale Zapple on November 17, 2020 at 3:50 pm

I’m using that plan in a mobile hotspot as of Feb 25. Still works for me 😊

  29. Ryan Orth on November 17, 2020 at 3:52 pm

I wonder if this is based more off of your area. My only choices for internet is hotspots..which I have 1 sprint tower and 2 at@t towers within 2 miles. The towers are never congested being in the country. So hopefully it’s only in spots where towers are busy.

  30. roxcyn on November 17, 2020 at 3:53 pm

That sucks as I was considering switching to them.🙄

  31. CC CC on November 17, 2020 at 3:55 pm

Att sucks anyways I switched to t moble

  32. BL3RD BOX on November 17, 2020 at 3:59 pm

This sucks. Especially during this pandemic when it’s really needed

  33. Greavous Skoger on November 17, 2020 at 4:00 pm

LOL you people abused the plan and look what happened. Pay your way like everyone else does. If you want to stream your ass off you should pay full price.

  34. Bill A on November 17, 2020 at 4:01 pm

It may be good news that ATT are grandfathering the old plan, but they will disconnect it as soon as they see the sim put back in a mobile router (they can tell by imei of the device being used on). 🙁
I wouldn’t be surprised if the new ATT "unlimited data plan" will be priced much higher and even limited by tiers… we shall see.
Just wait for the April 1st Tmobile/Sprint merger to go through, and you’ll see they will have the most kick ass 5G network around.

  35. Gray Wolf Travels on November 17, 2020 at 4:03 pm

Getting harder too get a good plan for reasonable price for rvers

  36. Jaquan on November 17, 2020 at 4:05 pm

  37. wolfgang on November 17, 2020 at 4:05 pm

yeah im tired of it im using visible hotspot right now for internet in the woods

  38. Derek Springfield on November 17, 2020 at 4:07 pm

Netbuddy was another great 3rd party reseller, they cancelled service without notice

  39. Charles Flora on November 17, 2020 at 4:08 pm

Interestingly the data connect pass page is still there and the rates are still listed. Why is that? https://buyasession.att.com/sbd/unauth/ShowLogin.action

  40. Alfred Dipace on November 17, 2020 at 4:08 pm

The problem was that you had to many entities promoting it on ebay (which private companies hate when they are not CUT in on the profit), and YouTube for everyone and their mother. Had the same problem with dish network. To many people with their fingers in the cookie jar and posted out easy to find for everyone and ruined it for everyone.

  41. supersonic on November 17, 2020 at 4:09 pm

At&t refuses to run dsl to my house my options? Satellite intenet with a 100 gb data cap for 100 a month…..no thanks and i dont care if its "against their usage blah blah" att wants 35$ for 5 gbs? Like 70$ for 12gb? Yeah not gonna happen and whether it was meant to be abused or not ill NEVER buy anything they’ve got its highway robbery
    ..

    To verizon away!!!!!

  42. Johnny Aingel on November 17, 2020 at 4:10 pm

Interesting information thank you for sharing

  43. Charles Gage on November 17, 2020 at 4:10 pm

An update: I texted AT&T a bit ago. They indicated that I am grandfathered in so I can keep the plan. But, if there are no "NEW" customers allowed, how long can the plan stay around? Who knows. That said, I don’t think my data use will trigger a termination. I chatted with another YouTuber moderator who said he had contacted AT&T and they had said the data cap overage could trigger a cancellation but did not say what that overage is. Reports are some people were using 1-TB of data per month. I kept a copy of the text interaction with AT&T.

Thanks for the videos! Very helpful and informative!

  44. Dean Bouchard on November 17, 2020 at 4:12 pm

Just one more data point. AT&T just re-upd my plan for March at $34.99. My data consumption last month was 210 gig.

  45. silverrx on November 17, 2020 at 4:13 pm

Thanks for keeping me posted on everything. I currently use this as my primary Internet and love it! I hope I don’t get canceled

  46. Bill Cooper on November 17, 2020 at 4:14 pm

Thanks for posting your video. It appears that all of the tech world uses your data as I see references to you all over Reddit and Howardforums. This is disappointing and frankly strange that the cell providers are going backwards. As we move towards 5G the cell providers still want to charge $50 for 7GB. The world is getting faster and more connected and the cell providers are still struggling. At 5G speeds you could use a 7GB plan in 3 minutes. The world is moving to faster data, all streaming services and data connected cars. I hope the cell services are ready. Only the strong, fast and cheaper services will survive in the 5G (and beyond) world. I’m also not sure kicking everyone off of AT&T makes the most sense right now. Don’t you want these customers for your future 5G services? Might have been smarter to just increase the price a little and keep folks around. Sorry for the rant.

  47. Shari McTiver on November 17, 2020 at 4:14 pm

I have this plan on an iPad mini. So far, it keeps renewing each month. I am not a heavy user at the moment, but I will keep it for travel.

  48. Brian Ketchum on November 17, 2020 at 4:16 pm

Question if I have an uninvited data phone line that I currently don’t use but still pay for. Can I take the sim out of the phone and use it in my mofi. And will it work like it did with the tablet sim?

  49. atsawin thongsumak on November 17, 2020 at 4:17 pm

I was thinking to cancel this iPad plan last year after they raised the price but I forgot. I’m glad that I still have it now.
