If you run in the "turbo" mode the GPU is overclocked (automatically)

I’ve owned this laptop for over a year now. Always always always play with your laptop on a flat surface like a desk and take the fans up to performance/turbo. The sound doesn’t bother me much since I’m using nice headphones when I play stuff. Don’t use it on your lap. You will in fact die and the fans will be covered and unable to cool it down.

Play on turbo fans, keep it in that desk, pop in some headphones and it’s a great experience. No regrets.

Would it be good for streaming on Twitch (using an Elgato HD60 S and an Xbox)?

I have same exact one same one G series they come in all variants mine has i7 paired with a 1650 and it’s also a 60hz panel not 144 hz it’s a step down form the model jay is showing here, BUTT I TELL YEA WHAT comes with Mvme drive right off the ripp with a second slot to upgrade has dual Channel ram u can upgrade as well mine came with one 8gb stuck I now have to 8 go sticks, and braught it to 16gb I believe max the g series can handle is 32 which for laptop is amazing, the laptop over all is a beast even my downgraded model runs every game and triple a game in 1080p no problem at 60 frames still no issue at all here in2020 and I play all modern games even now in 2020 in certain ways this laptop is still an overkill pc.my unit has always ran cool and also has enough ports to run all your external equipment for my I run an external keyboard mouse and I also use a external monitor for dual mini as well it has a direct hdmi port on the back of it, plus the ac power charge port is located on the back and not the sides which makes it a lot easier to use external keyboards and mice over all over all for a game laptop for 1080 p gaming in 2020 I give this computer a 8 out of a 1 thru 10…. followed buy a two thumbs up it’s still a great pc and the pc is capable of a lot more than just gaming whoever buy’s this computer won’t be disappointed I don’t believe TRULLY a good piece of hardware and for how much upgrade and it can do and how easy it is it’s worth it 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙

Its an amazing laptop, unfortunately the battery struggles to maintain even 1 hr battery life so I had to give it away besides that the asus drivers are complicated to install after a fresh install of windows.
It also overheats, underclocking barely affected temps.
Throttles after about 10 mins into a game at max settings.

I had no choice but to give it away and downgrade to a decent laptop with budget graphics and good battery life

…. and the keyboard doesn’t work (i reinstalled the windows 10 8 times I think), the vents are broken and it’s overheating(I can hear a shitty sound from the vents and the cpu gets at 95°C) and i can hear an annoying zzzzzzzz from the motherboard… Very good laptop…..

You think this is hot? The zephyrus g14 is even toastier. I recommend a cooling pad, they are game changers.

  23. Christopher Ralston on September 3, 2021 at 11:12 pm

Just cleaned the paste off GPU & CPU, and replaced with thermal grizzly pads.
Also have an extra 16gb ram to bring it to 32gb.
Next upgrade is going to be a 2Tb Samsung evo ssd.
This is still going strong one year and 6 days later of heavy use for me!
Initially I was worried about the constant 87c gpu temps, but everything still is holding up!

Sadly I’ve had two ASUS ROG Strix G17 Gaming Laptop, 17.3” 144Hz FHD within the last 12 weeks & both have gone down showing hardware errors & not uploading updates they are a lovely machine the first machine went down in less than a 8 days which was replaced by John Lewis the second machine took a little longer just over 30 days so had to go in for repairs, which when it was returned it was set to basic I’d not spent £1799.99 pounds on a gaming laptop for it to be set at basic. Asus repair company letmerepair ltd are a bunch of cowboys they didn’t send my machine back with all my original packaging. it was returned & went into administrator mode & needed a password this machine had been rebooted three time back to factory so I’ve sadly had to send it back for a full refund.

Played with a bunch of Asus at the store and the Razer…. Razer was superior in build quality.. wasn’t even close.. so I bought one and tossed in a pair of 1tb M.2 samsung evo plus drives.. been amazing. I was there to buy an Asus but thanks to an Amazon pricing mistake I got a Razer stupid cheap matched at Microcenter lol

  31. Glen DeKoker on September 3, 2021 at 11:28 pm

I have this laptop works great but I can’t install NVidia drivers only ASUS drivers or I must send it in for repair. It’s also comes with 1 year free replacement. I maxed out ram added another m.2 drive.

4:17 if a laptop can’t be opened with one finger. It doesn’t necessarily mean the hinges are too tight, it means the laptop has more weight in the back. In this case the weight is evenly distributed

Does anyone know the amount of cores? I need six for school, but I think 4 would be ok. I can’t find it anywhere. Also, is RTX just as good as GPX? They wanted that for school too, but I don’t know the difference.

I got the same model, keyboard stop working completely after a few months of daily normal use (almost never for gaming, mostly office work), I literally tried every solution online, including installing windows 6 times, leaving everything on basic (without the asus crap bloatware ) updated -bios, roll back drives, updates, windows register, etc until now The keyboard only works on bios but on windows nope.

I have the "Device description failed" permanently in the device manager., and after 1-2 months trying fix it I gave up and just use a regular keyboard via USB.

I got the same laptop last year and my thermals are total shit, gpu hits 88 degrees in heaven benchmark and the frequency drops to 950mhz, it gives shitty 50 fpa in fortnite can’t play any games. It’s out of warranty now, wish I’d have taken care of this earlier

  49. Max on September 3, 2021 at 11:43 pm

im planning on getting one of those laptop cooling pads, i was wondering just how effective those are?

  50. Fred Derf on September 3, 2021 at 11:45 pm

I’m not impressed by all the bloatware (stickers) all over the case (are the expecting their users to all be 11 years old?) That makes me worried about the amount of bloatware added to the OS.
