Best Stock Android Smartphones (Summer 2021)

Reviewing the best Android smartphones in 2021 with that clean, stock Google UI, no added launcher shenanigans. Including the Pixel phones, Nokia 8.3, 5.4 and XR20, and Motorola’s Moto RAZR 5G and G30. These are my favourite stock Android mobiles right now to suit any budget, check out my unboxings and full reviews here on Tech Spurt.

First up, ahead of the Google Pixel 6 launch, the Pixel 5 is still quite pricey but one of the greatest camera smartphones around. You’ve got a water resistant design, wireless charging, a crisp OLED screen and a compact design. Although no headphone jack or expandable storage. For less cash, there’s always the Pixel 4a 5G, or the ยฃ350 4a.

The Nokia 8.3 is one of the best alternatives, offering solid specs and a very good camera for around ยฃ350 in 2021. Or on a tight budget there’s always the Nokia 5.4, while the super-durable Nokia XR20 boasts that same stock Android design.

As for Motorola, check out the RAZR 5G if you’ve got stacks of cash. A solid bendy mobile, although the battery life isn’t great. Much cheaper is the Moto G30 which will suit most users just fine, or the 5G-ready Moto G50.

Check out my video on the greatest smartphones still to launch this year for more on the Pixel 6 and other upcoming stock Android handsets.

Finally got Android 11 on my Nokia 5.3 on Sunday, and have to say it was worth the wait. Nokia make a nice handset, and the stock A11 makes a difference. Lots of small improvements that make the 5.3 even nicer to use. Stock Android is the way to go.

Thank you, as always! Are you planning to do a review of Nokia G20 separately, or do a comparison between G20, 5.4, 8.3 and X10? They all sound so similar, but for those of us who don’t know as much about which processor is better or which camera specs make it stand out more, it would be very useful! โ˜บ๏ธ

I agree that the Moto G9 plus is a top device, my only gripe is that we are still waiting for the Android 11 update…I’m seriously thinking of moving over to a Pixel or even a Nokia….but then again I would find it living without the Karate chop torch…

Guess I’ll be the pedant who points out that Pixel devices are not stock Android, they’re a Google-modified version of Android. At best, it’s stock-like.

Either way, love the videos Chris!

OnePlus Nord N10! Because I live in the dumpster fire USA so I can’t get the Nord 2. But damn the N10 blows everyone else out of the water in terms of speed!

  25. Jerry Berglund on August 19, 2021 at 10:48 pm

Ok, no Sony on this list? Sony have, what I know, same androidvariant as Motorola and Nokia? Google One that is, but just as Motorola and NOkia put in some of their own apps like camera. SONYS so called Xperia UI was put down years ago… If I don’t remember it wrongly, the last XPERIA UI phone was Xperia XZ3.

Sony do some slight changes in the Android One-variant, just like Nokia and MOtorola do. And As someone allready stated, Pixel do not have Google One wich is in sense stock. Pixel has its modifications wich derives it from Stock android.

Don’t care about the camera. Most people use their smartphone every day for listening to content and music. Yet we never hear about the audio DAC or sound quality.
How many times a week do we take pictures? Once? Twice?
But we use the audio every day.

  39. Altair Ibn La'ahad (Assassin's Creed) on August 19, 2021 at 11:07 pm

Motorola and Google are much better than Nokia, because Nokia only always favor updates for 3 years. Nothing special about Nokia, Nokia specs are very weak and very outdated for 2021.

I prefer stock android where the posibilities of future os update(not security update) more faster and support up to 2 years rather than other brands with fancy ui features but only support 1 year update (late) or nothing at all

Unfortunately no Pixel has ever included a SD card, which is IMO a oversight – and in my case a deal breaker.

If they ever made a Pixel version with a SD card slot, it would be my first choice.
