Best Budget Phones Under £200! (Summer 2021) | Top 10 & One to Avoid

Reviewing the best budget smartphones you can buy in 2021 for a price under £200, boasting smart camera tech, proper gaming grunt and very different Android experiences. Here’s my favourite cheap phones from Nokia, Xiaomi/Poco, Motorola and Realme, including the Poco X3 Pro and M3 5G, Moto G50 and G30 and Nokia 5.4.

One of the best smartphones that creeps under the cost of £200 in various sales is the Poco X3 Pro. This brilliant budget blower boasts incredible specs, a respectable camera and proper gaming chops, although MiUI 12 is rather divisive. The fresher M3 Pro 5G has just been reviewed here on Tech Spurt and costs even less.

If you prefer stock Android, check out the Nokia 5.4 or Motorola’s latest mobiles. The Moto G50 and G30 aren’t updated as reliably as that Nokia phone but do serve up some good specs at a low price point.

Love also to the Oppo A53 and Realme 8 5G, check out my unboxing and review videos of these handsets right here on Tech Spurt.

this is why youre a great review. Dont just focus on the big-budget phones. more realistic for the average person. might not always get the big views but fits an important niche

Every Motorola you mention has a really BAD CAMERA. I wasted my money on g9 plus. Total waste of money. Big, heavy, my wrist was hurt and my doctor even asked me how did I do that. Battery lasts ONLY ONE DAY barely (due to big screen and high resolution) and I didn’t use it much! Realme 8 is fast, yes, but the camera isn’t good as well, it’s only sharpening everyting and it isn’t, I repeat, IT ISN’T what camera is all about. Plus, AMOLED which really isn’t THAT GOOD and consumes more battery. So NO! You should learn more about smartphones. The only smartphones worth saying that they should be bought are REDMI NOTE 10 PRO and POCO X3 PRO and M3 PRO (though, it isn’t available in my country to be bought), the rest is a total trash. I have no idea who pays you for the "recommendations" but at least do some research before you trully recommend something. Recommending something ONLY because it’s fast doesn’t help. People keep looking for more, like – camera – this is one of the crucial points to consider when buying a new phone. And for GOD’S sake – please stop calling His name if you don’t believe in HIM! You can’t call GOD’S name if you don’t need HIM!

Wanted a backup phone to complement my beautiful yet battery draining Pixel 4. Picked up the Realme 8 in Punk Black 6gb ram and 128gb of storage for £159.99 on sale. This phone should definitely get at mention when on.

I picked up a N10 for 300$ and it was okay at best, I bought a Google Pixel 2XL for 130$ on amazon and it’s 10x better for something that’s so much older. Google phones are legendary! No 5G or 90hz screen but it actually feels fluid compared to the N10 feeling jittery!

  32. K W on August 7, 2021 at 10:23 pm

Hey Chris! Love your work from New Zealand 🙂 I’m looking for a new budget smartphone. Thinking the Oneplus Nord as it seems to have come down in price to about 200gbp on aliexpress and better specs than the ones you’ve reviewed here. What do you think? I would go Xiaomi/Poco but don’t want to deal with the MIUI/Bloatware. Cheers!

  33. Wraith Gen on August 7, 2021 at 10:25 pm

is redmi note 10 pro a good choice

  34. Brett Morris on August 7, 2021 at 10:27 pm

I agree with the a12. I was using the older A10s and that was nothing but laggy and frustration.

  35. Flaming Hedgehog on August 7, 2021 at 10:28 pm

Budget phones are becoming such great value it makes the flagships more overpriced than ever.

  36. Rango Jango on August 7, 2021 at 10:28 pm

You forgot to say love you at the end 🙁🤣

  37. Sebastian Adelin on August 7, 2021 at 10:29 pm

What about Redmi Note 9T 5G?

  38. The Grumpy Englishman on August 7, 2021 at 10:29 pm

If flagship’s weren’t offered on credit then I don’t think anyone would buy them anymore. Budget phones are so usable for the vast majority of us now that forking out a grand on a flagship wouldn’t happen.

I don’t have those contracts anymore now and have a SIM only deal with a cheap smartphone and am perfectly happy

  39. King Solo on August 7, 2021 at 10:29 pm

Could you do redmi note 10s review.

  40. Rob on August 7, 2021 at 10:30 pm

Poco looks dead smart at the 8G ram

  41. Justin Tunley on August 7, 2021 at 10:31 pm

Think twice about buying Motoroala products. I encouraged my mother to buy a Moto-G (first generation).
Shortly before the end of the bog standard one year warranty, it started to play up. Very shortly after the warranty expired, she had to pay Motorola for some probably irrelevant repairs. Very shortly after return it failed again. Their attitude seemed to be ‘We’ve had your money, now go away in short sexual jerky movements!’. No fool, she promptly moved to apple, her Moto-G now a paper-weight.
A competitively priced unit that you get 11 months use out of is ultimately very poor value.I, for one, have purchased my first and last Motorola product.

  42. Insaness on August 7, 2021 at 10:32 pm

    waiting

  43. Joey B on August 7, 2021 at 10:33 pm

Tried the newest Motorola and within 2 months the repair cost were double the phone cost..

  44. enovasia on August 7, 2021 at 10:35 pm

Basic message: all these phones are poor except for the SD860 POCO X3 PRO. Which is frequently available from £159 or £179 in the UK direct from Xiaomi. Well below £200. Avoid anything with 720p screens and no stereo speakers and don’t touch SD662 models as they stutter like crazy and basically can’t play most games to a fair standard

  45. ScreenHax on August 7, 2021 at 10:37 pm

My Moto G9 Plus is terrible. Too hefty to fit in a baggy jeans pocket of a full grown man (literally digs into my hip when sitting) and pointless 20:9 aspect ratio. Worst of all, the 4G constantly cuts out while still showing the icon and when using Google maps the compass constantly points north

  46. Souro Pashi Bondhon on August 7, 2021 at 10:37 pm

    What about Nokia 3.4?

  47. Kevin Hawthorne on August 7, 2021 at 10:38 pm

    Great video

  48. David Richards on August 7, 2021 at 10:38 pm

You say the 480 chipset on the g50 can be a bit laggy but all the comparison sites give it a higher score than the 662. Can you explain please?
