Video Games That Blur the Line Between Rated T and Rated M (ESRB)

Video Games That Blur the Line Between Rated T and Rated M (ESRB)

Some games clearly deserve the M rating, others almost deserve T rating. Some games fit well within the T rating, while others come surprisingly close to deserving an M. So, let’s talk about some of the games which show just how blurred the line is between rated T and rated M.
Songs used (in order):
Gojira – The Heaviest Matter of the Universe
Zane Alexander – V o i d
bl00dwave – simulations
Mass Effect 2 OST – New Worlds
Ptr. – Digital Dreams
Forza Motorsport 4 OST – Paris Rouen

Many of the clips used in this video are not my own. It would have taken forever to actually get them all myself, but I tried to use my own gameplay whenever possible.

i can solve the esrb,s imposable task with games at least get gamers and impartial people to rate them and make sure the gamers are seasoned we have a since on what’s a line crosser and what’s not in fact the mass effect thing i didn’t even think there was one scene like that I’m so use to the pitiful culmination of shepherd and who he or she has built up a relationship with fighting galactic threats is shown as the panicle of large emotional moments for two character’s going off for what might be the last time is….black off screen and completely ruining any reason to go with another character. the ones doing the ratings now seem like infantile puritanical whiners and then the censorship that SHIT needs to be completely removed its a massive peace off garbage ruining games for gamers because they don’t think we can handle spicy content and also from imported games these SHIT censoring companies THINK that games with the actual sexual content they say other m let me repeat M RATEED games have but aren’t censored because those games aren’t aligned with our wussy simpering wester CinSubIltyS id have to say to those crap censoring idiots my sensibilities are soo much stronger and salient not to mention my quality preference i like good games these censors like cut up hack jobs with no vision bravery or actual interest of gamers all they want is to ruin other peoples fun and entertainment. if the want to ruin stuff ruin toddler shows and movies they don’t care about quality yet.

What sucks is that mostly all of the best games out there are M rated. When there’s no restrictions that are needed to be followed you can focus of making an engaging game rather than ones for teens. For example, you want to play RPG’s? Witcher 3 Assassins creed, Fallout 4, some of the best games in the genre, all M rated, shooters? COD, Battlefield, Far cry all M rated. Story telling? Tell me why, Life is strange, literally all of the telltale games. And then there also so many other genres and sub genres that are dominated by M rated games too like Zombies, Survival, Horror, adventure. To the point where if you have strict parents as a kid about what you can and can’t play, your going to be beating yourself up over how you can’t play some of the best games ever created just because their rated M. But then again, some games that I’ve spent the most time in like Overwatch and Rocket league are rated T and are extremely fun to play. It just depends on what you like

Wow looks like some people put a lot of effort into ratings so kids don’t play games with inappropriate content

But if I ask my dad really politely to buy GTA 5…

Now come to think of it, I still stand of what I had said a year ago. But if there’s a glitch that can allow the user to bypass inaccessibility and or being able to change the content like in Oblivion making the female character topless or completely nude through the equip system, then the Devs must patch out the original code to that glitch (or it was accidentally done in another patch).

When I was a child one time my dad said that the rating on a game would mean how hard it was and I was only able to play M rated games whether my friends were playing gta and when I got gta they didn’t play it anymore but it didn’t bother me but one time I went to a store and picked up Batman Arkham asylum because it was a M and I couldn’t sleep for two nights same thing happened when I borrowed a copy of ghost rider but then after my dad died in 2014 because my grandpa didn’t understand ratings In games he tried to hide them and I couldn’t handle it anymore so my mum had to give them to me and my first MA15 game was call of duty infinite warfare and I got watch dogs 2 so I really wanted watch dogs 1 but it was rated R18 but I got it anyway

Mass effect you could have 2 Females having s-
    Esrb : RATED M

  28. Anders Banders on August 7, 2021 at 9:29 pm

For games it should be..E for everyone, T for teen 13+, and A for adult 18+. Would make things easier, not to mention the insane cash companies would make from adult mods and add-ons. Most gamers are male.

  29. Get Distracted on August 7, 2021 at 9:29 pm

Eyes go black then screen go black

  30. Layson Samson on August 7, 2021 at 9:29 pm

Just on assassinations alone I feel like halo 5 should’ve been M. I can only imagine what the assassinations would have been like if the actual rating was M. Then we’d actually get lore accurate gore

  31. LEGO Metaworld on August 7, 2021 at 9:36 pm

I know that you’re probably just giving examples that people would understand but does anyone actually consider Terminator on the high end of an R rating? It’s nowhere near as bad as the Saw movies and most modern horrors.

  32. Riu on August 7, 2021 at 9:36 pm

Im damned happy my parents limit me before to games but not as much to what types of games or games age restrictions are. Glad they trusted my suspicious head

  33. xDark_unknownx on August 7, 2021 at 9:36 pm

Titanfall 2 would be soft m or hard t because for most of the game its not so bad and there are almost no swear words. But simalar to halo 5 there are executions but they acually show a lot of blood, yet thats still not so bad. I think the REAL reason it is rated m is the animation when you punch a human as a titan they literally explode into a bunch of blood and chunks of meat wich is disgusting and weird compared to the rest of the in game blood, when you shoot someone there is a little bit of blood that doesn’t often even leave a stain. So it should be a t other than that

  34. laundry basket gamers on August 7, 2021 at 9:36 pm

If Mass Effect had the butt shot removed, it would totally be rated t. Only thing I can think of that actually warrants an M rating is the guy on the snow planet who gets impaled by one of those bug guys

  35. Riu on August 7, 2021 at 9:37 pm

I have just watched this video and felt its interesting even though these rating systems doesn’t even affect me as a teenager free from any game content controls by parents or anyone. All I knew this is stupid likely because of boomers controlling the implementation of these shits

  36. Teures on August 7, 2021 at 9:39 pm

11:01 Pegi is actually no different. From 12 to 16 is the same as from 13 to 17. It’s a four year gap either way. Though, often the problem _is_ that the ratings aren’t used properly.

  37. chetriip09 on August 7, 2021 at 9:42 pm

I consider most violent games as 7+ tbh. Like even I as a kid loved violent stuff and I am pretty sure you did as well. But sexual content should be 18+. That’s it ig.

  38. MSS47Ag on August 7, 2021 at 9:42 pm

Ah yes the struggle of all European children, begging your parents while visiting Media Markt to allow you to buy that Pegi 16 / Pegi 18 game your edgy scrublord neighbour kid also had.

    FYI
    Pegi 18 – AO
    Pegi 16 – M/NC-17
    Pegi 12 – T
    Pegi 7 – PG
    Pegi 3 – E

My mom does not allow me to watch cinema movies other than cartoons but my mom allows me to play GTA SA even when I was a child though my copy of GTA SA is rated M. It’s because at the time people of all ages (children through seniors) watch TV and movies but video games were only played by children & teens.

  40. Page153 on August 7, 2021 at 9:45 pm

What about Batman Arkham Knight? That should be Teen, but it’s M.

  44. Christian Complains on August 7, 2021 at 9:53 pm

In England they have a 15 rating for movies, and a 16 for games… 15 is much better than 16 but they should add T 15+ to the esrb now.

  45. Andrew Weir on August 7, 2021 at 9:53 pm

I personally agree with the idea of ESRB adding an E 15+ rating because the E 10+ rating was made to have that gray line between E for Everyone and T for Teen, so why not have one between T and M

  47. sam dijkstra on August 7, 2021 at 9:53 pm

Swearwords are not m in Europa

  48. Soundtracks Expert on August 7, 2021 at 9:53 pm

My opinion: the M, just like the R rating for the movies, should be reduced to 15+. We already have AO and NC-17 ratings. So, no matter how violent a game/movie is, none should be slapped with more than a 15+ rating. I think the 18+ ratings should only be applied to pornos and gambling games.

honestly can’t give a fuck about esrp and begi, but i don’t play very gory games since i don’t like em

I saw people jumping out of buildings when they aired it at my school when I was 5 years old when 9/11 hit. I watched my veteran father hit my mother and there wasn’t a thing I could do. I played Resident Evil 4 when I was 9. I watched wikileaks collateral murder at age 14. This is absolutely nothing!

Parents nowadays are a bunch of whiners who will never let their kids grow up in the real world. I didn’t become a sociopath. Instead I became independent as a result of early exposure to the very real graphic world we live in. I learned to navigate evil without it corrupting me. That’s what it is to know good AND evil. And parents wonder why their kids still live in their home in their 30’s! Maybe that’s why!

It had the opposite effect on me that you’d expect. It allowed me to grow tf up fast because success was my only option in life. I had no father/mother. Just divorced people soulessly working during the recession treating me like cargo to gather legal dirt on the other and two hungry organized religions competing to eat my eternal soul (none of them got it). It ironically prepared me for the corporate world of cut throat business where you are cargo and you have to conform or you’re out.

I’m the best darn "cargo" employers can get their hands on because I’m entirely broken in. I outperform everybody, even (especially) the boomers where I work and work for less too! I’m your worst nightmare in the corporate world if you’re my competition. Society wanted it. Well, they got it now.

Just like kids have allergies if they don’t have peanut exposure, they don’t develop into adults if they don’t have adult theme exposure at some point. You can’t just boot them into the world blind because it’s too much. You’ve got to desensitize kids or they won’t be able to cope, like the Tiktok kids of today who cry over a Frozen character who is a snowman melting in Summer. Give me a break!
