This Is Your Child's Brain on Videogames | WSJ
As many parents know, turning off a child’s gaming console in the middle of gameplay is a surefire way to trigger a tantrum. WSJ Family & Tech columnist Julie Jargon explains why.

Well u touch my legos you get the beggos
corrupts world you’ve spent a month on because they’re ignorant
One of the reasons that these children find it so hard to control themselves is because they just worked hard and you killed their progress.
Imagine you just finish collage and I take away your degree for fun. Haha, go and try again.
0:36 creepy guy from a horor movie
That’s the similar reaction we get when we turn off news when old ones are watching
Simple solution #banvideogsmes
How about i unplug your life support instead?
Apparently getting upset over someone completely erasing something I’ve been working on for hours means I have an undeveloped prefontal cortex.
Thanks!
This has motivated me to game
Whatever we do, these old people are always jealous that we are enjoying something
Stupidity isnβt a crime, so youβre free to go.
when old man and woman hate gaming like boomers
Seriously? They donβt want to stop. Thatβs the problem.
I am 17 and I don’t play video games anymore because I stopped playing video game because is not the same and I used to play the xbox 360
Imagine working on your computer than your kid shut it off and you didn’t save how will you feel?
This is the definition of βneurotrashβ and itβs at moments like these that I think the art major journalists at the WSJ should just stay out of science and medicine all together.
No
Like a crazy serial killer
Short explanation: You just ruined their progress they made for hours.
Micheal looks creepy
Bet that dude, with his fully developed pre-frontal cortex, would not throw a fit if I took away his Bingo board on Bingo night & ruined his dopamine high from gaming. Gotta bring that Bingo frequency down.
Some kids are addicted and this might give off bad signal to why they’re are it’s not they’re brain but the parents kinda
Imagine I delete your whole documentary that you spend 3 years on, whatβs your reaction? Excuse me professors speak up.
Go listen to what your kids have to say instead and be rational with them, donβt listen to these idiotic words.
The comments section here has some really solid points but it kinda feels all over the place and slightly confrontational…
Basically, a large percentage of video games don’t really tend to autosave unless the game reaches some logical point like the start or end of a mission as that is easier on the memory and RAM.
As such, shutting down the device suddenly means a lot of pretty limited time tends to get wasted for no apparent rhyme or reason.
As such, anger is the quickest response to come to the surface…
Plain and simple…
Look, how would you react if you were about to finish a 500 page essay and you’re about to press save but then your parent unplugs your PC. Oh and they filmed your reaction and posted it to youtube. How would you feel. Its not a frontal cortex thing. You’ve possibly eliminated them if they were playing a multi player game or ruined hours of there progress in a story game.
Just saying wouldn’t be particularly happy if I had my Console disabled after beating the final boss in a game without autosave
Video games donβt do nothing to your brains De spent hours on it working progress just like you do at work and you just turn off the TV which technically does not save half of the time because everything your kid has an online game no one plays games anymore like super Mario 64 and stuff you canβt just do that thatβs why the raging
If they don’t want kids to play video games why did they buy it for them in the first place? Look how many dislikes this video has. lol
Watch me unplugged my dads tv while watching the soccer game
these "adults" are idiots! idiots who dislike the idea of something and trys to use the unrelated anger that any human would react to spending hrs working for something then loose it all in an instant due to preventable causes, what kind of idiot is like, hur der "my child gets mad when i just shut of there game and they lose progress" its like your reading a a book, your really into the book because its a good book, then some so called "adult" does something childish and stupid like idk walking up and shutting your book as your reading, which then causes you to lose your page, now you have to spend an unknown amount of time to re find your page.
its asinine, and the only logical reason i can come to is the person making this study has never played a video game, thus fails to make the connection that it is entertainment like a book or a movie, making this mans statement’s founded in ignorance, i have the strange feeling this "physiatrist" if you can even call the joker that, is simply trying to use this as a spear head to be anti video games, but the very same examples given can be used for anything someone enjoys that takes time, like READING, thus you can use his interchangeable arguments to be against literally anything that brings joy, because Dopamine is addictive!
What a fool! but bigger the fool to be fooled by the fool, a dummy i am but no fool am i!
What if you unplugged a person’s TV while they are watching a movie a similar fate happens. This is not limited to just videogames.
Parent: remove the console from the cable probably corrupting some stuff and losing progress
Kid: screams
Parent: My ChIlD iS aDicTeD
We get mad because we are in a reality with barley no punishments and having immediately lose progress and get back to a reality that sucks
HECK I’M NEVER PLAYING ROBLOX AGAin-
Mobile gamer-I have four parrellel universe away from u
I have been progress to win about 30 minutes to win a mini tournament, i can win 50 dollars for my loving mom!!
im in a top 3 so far!!!,
*dad just unplugs the pc*.
Im crying and sad because of that.
The media: YouVe plAyEd To MuCh, HiS coMpuTer iS mAkiNg Him LikE a BAbY, ThAt KiD HAs To SToP PlAYing GamES, and bla bla bla.
You dont know what they are doing, if hes playing battle royal he can win with happiness. if hes playing minecraft/building games. hes creating thing that he loves, you can destroy a kids creation with just unpluging his pc.
Moral story: media doesnt know games, so media will just look at the bad side, you dont know what the kid is doing.
Says it the DOCTOR with dirty teeth!!!!! π€£πππ the world is LOST !!!! conflict OF interest
The problem is how the parents would educate their baby. If your kid does this kind of sounds when you close his videogame , normally he should accept it and go do something else. One more thing , why do you parents let your kid play with the when they are not even 12?
Ah yes the only way for children to deal with frustration is to just instantly end something very progressive and fulfilling and just prevent them to complete a task that they are willing to do, really… just really this entire video was like the concept of communism, a good idea in theory but just benefits 1 single person and does lots of harm and causes frustration to everyone else.
this is so stupid
Minecraft?
Chill man’s beanies, inna!
It’s because the parents are spoiling them most of the time
On my opinion video game help people to Escape reality and in our reality is always chaos
imagine if you were watching sports or a tv show and suddenly someone turns off the TV
how would you like someone to rip up a piece of art you just made you loved?
thats what they felt
Just let them finish it. It’s not like 5 minutes of extra gaming is going to kill them. Also, If you were watching your favorite show and i turned it off would you be happy?
Oh that’s the damage by a video game ? That’s no where compared to the damage my aunt’s son got when he was bullied in school
I love how there are more dislikes than likes.
