Solution: Buy an expensive desktop that is future-proof for 10 years and then buy a cheap Chromebook. If you need power on the go then connect remotely to your desktop.

  4. MiguelPpM on October 18, 2020 at 4:28 pm

Desktop doesn’t come with a screen, battery, keyboard, and most importantly, unless…I don’t know honestly how to finish this sentence.

About Laptops becoming slower: it is somehow true, maybe because of the dust, after all it is harder to tear appart for maintenance. On the software side though it should be the same as any desktops. My old laptop was becoming extremely slow, so what I did was to open it, not completely teared appart but I removed the back plate and gave it a good compressed air can job, along with a few alcohol rubbing here and there. After that I whiped the memory and did rebooted completely (not factory, but the memory and all apps where completely whiped). The result? It works perfectly now, pretty much as fast as new!

I built my first pc (in 20 or so years) a few months ago and I’m very happy with it. It’s a very low level pc compared to stuff that I see online, but it was a big step up from my old laptop. I learned a lot watching some of the bigger youtube folks. $550 or so. Now my son needs a computer for this upcoming school year and I’m torn between building another desktop and getting him a laptop.

  13. notthere83 on October 18, 2020 at 4:33 pm

Really? At a time when awesome new Ryzen laptops are coming out and later this year awesome new Ryzen desktop CPUs, you’re recommending desktop now, laptop later? Weird…

Currently using my brothers old gaming laptop I get around 90-110 frames in the games I play and I don’t know wether I should upgrade to a pc I know they’re better and higher I performance but even a worthy pc that can output higher frames than my laptop is pretty expensive

  21. Michael Hoying on October 18, 2020 at 4:49 pm

I got a $1000 gaming laptop because I want that portability (around the house), because for some reason in my house any free table/desk space is already spoken for (even when there is something already there that needs free table/desk space to work), but I grab my lapdesk table and I can game/work anywhere that has free butt room (even the floor).

  22. 佐井トラね子 on October 18, 2020 at 4:51 pm

    Team laptop.
I realized the reason why I didn’t jump to a personal desktop is I don’t have enough space to fit one on my desk.
And looking at the price to get a top tier gaming desktop that is small enough to fit on my desktop with a lot of horsepower under it’s hood, I get a better deal if I just go with a top tier gaming laptop like the Zephrus Duo 15. I also get two screens, wifi connection ability and bluetooth if I’m mad enough to go for that baby.

  23. P M on October 18, 2020 at 4:52 pm

I got a laptop for college in 2003, but swore I’d switch to a desktop once I was an adult with money so I could have a blazing fast system. Haven’t bought a desktop yet. Currently I have a 17” laptop with a 2070 in it and love the ability to play games on my recliner. The though of playing at a desk now just turns me off.

  24. Rayan Zuhair 9A on October 18, 2020 at 4:53 pm

Guys help me here, I need a laptop for school next year, and I want to do gaming aswell, should I get a gaming pc or gaming laptop, the reason I’m asking this is can a laptop last long enough for next gen games?

Laptop for me? NO THANKS! My iPad Pro already have replaced my old laptop for mobile computing. Now my desktop is for my general purposes, work and play.

  27. Pavel Pivovarov on October 18, 2020 at 4:54 pm

Unfortunately crypto-currency mining boom 2-3 years ago kicked prices for decent desktop video cards up beyond the point when it was CHEAPER to buy a gaming laptop with built-in dedicated graphics. Mining boom is over now and I’m glad to see prices are slowly getting back to normal, though.

Laptop is for portability at the expense of power. Desktop is for power at the expense of portability.

laptop thermals start to go bad a lot sooner than desktops

  43. artfulvicious on October 18, 2020 at 5:10 pm

I just wanna be honest I’ve broken ALOT of electronics over the years .. some being laptops lol
I used desktops up to 2011-2012 and ever since 2013 I’ve mainly worked with laptops at home or for gaming stuff.
In my opinion I believe laptops are much easier to get broken depending on where it is placed , and it also acts like a mini book wherever you take it whereas a desktop is like a big car engine in one position. Laptops are much more portable whereas Desktops’ aren’t. But if you’re not a big traveller I’d suggest sticking to a desktop especially since we are in quarantine and theres not really anywhere to go , if ya working outside get a laptop xd. However laptops are kept at a budget so IDK , at the end of the day its just preference.

  44. Dmitry Kim on October 18, 2020 at 5:12 pm

as laptop cpus are so powerfull -> desktops are now only for kids for a cheaper gaming or for server installations at home.

I would wanna get a desktop I have the money but I just don’t have the space too, I share a room with my brothers there’s literally no space for a desktop, so I just stick with laptop

I feel it possibly comes down to one sentence, what do you want to use it for? The answer is possibly based on what the user needs, wants, requirements, situation and funds available to them, etc. I feel.

  50. Dalton Mcneely on October 18, 2020 at 5:20 pm

It’s actually pretty simple, if you need portability get laptop. if you do not need portability you will be MUCH better served with a desktop
