Best Budget Smartphones Under £300 (Summer 2020)
Best Budget Smartphones Under £300 (Summer 2020)
Reviews of the best budget-friendly smartphones you can buy in Summer 2020, with a price under £300. Affordable mobiles from Xiaomi (Redmi), Motorola, Samsung, Oppo, Realme and some hot Pixel action, all fully tested and compared here.
I have quite a growing selection of favourite phones that boast a budget cost, with Xiaomi still bringing it hard. The Redmi Note 9 Pro rocks a cheap price of £250, despite sporting impressive camera tech, performance, battery life and design. Meanwhile Motorola is still among the best thanks to its Moto G8 Plus, while Oppo also serves up stiff competition with the A9 2020 and Reno 2Z. The Realme 6 and 6 Pro are also seriously impressive rivals, featuring 90Hz displays, strong performance and that fresh Realme UI.
Google will please any camera fans, with the cheap Pixel 3a, although we really should have had the Pixel 4a by now. Meanwhile Samsung proves that you don’t need to throw away a grand to enjoy its One UI experience. Sure, the speed and camera tech aren’t as strong as others in this review round-up, but the Galaxy A51 is still a respectable choice.
So that’s my selection of the best budget smartphones you can grab in Summer 2020 for under £300. What are your own favourites?
Soulless eyes
Honor 20 / Nova 5T. Bought one for 270 Euro.
remember guys xiaomi isnt perfect they have popup ads and bad interface
Yeah.. Umm.. I’m here because the super fragile glass on the front of my Moto G8+ cracked. Like, you know, it just cracked, all on its own, how crazy is that…
Okay I dropped the f**king thing, my bad for not buying a more robust case, & being a clutsy f**k.
But it was a sh!t phone. Had it for 5 months, & for most of that time I’ve needed to reboot it almost every day.
Sometimes it gets hot & drains the battery. Reboot.
Sometimes it runs super slow. Reboot.
Sometimes the glass cracks. Reboot.
Don’t get me wrong; going from a Zenfone 3 to a G8+ felt like a real upgrade. It was great.
Was.
However after 2 weeks & all of the problems started, it sure didn’t feel like it.
But then again, the problems I had with the Zenfone, again from quite early on, were much more infuriating… Imagine not being able to transfer anything to/from the PC by USB. Or Bluetooth. Or WiFi, & that’s on top of much the same problems I’ve had with the G8+.
And I won’t get started on the problems I had with my Galaxy S4, again from not long after getting it.
Do smartphones just suck, or is it just me? Am I asking too much of life?
If I sound bitter, that’s because this is my first cracked smart phone… I am so rotten right now… ='(
I’m just saying, the transition between the smartphone is a bit annoying. At least put some words in it for every model. People are watching your video, but people wants to focus on the name. The explanation is good. That’s all
Your dedicated Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro review was one of many that helped me pull the trigger on it. I love this phone, and I was a "buy the newest Galaxy Note ever year" guy. Coming off a Note8 that finally needed replacing after the 875th drop and unable to afford the 20+, I still feel like I upgraded. From now on I’m a Xiaomi guy all the way.
Getting very hot in the sub £300 market.
Great year for some.
Which phone should i buy Realme 5 pro, Redmi 8T or Moto G8 Power? Most important for me is battery, speed, multitasking, strong wifi.
@8:39 your right, this year is a crappiest year of our life
Ty dude just what I was looking for
Cristopher nolan film lmao
So what would be your suggestion for best under $300 in the United States? I don’t need the best camera but need good volume for phone calls. No gaming. Thanks
Will there be an autumn, winter video? Now that the "black Friday" offers are coming up everywhere.. which phones under 300 would you recommend for camera, watching films, battery live and an overall smooth everyday experience?
Don’t suggest buying motorola. Xiaomi phones are very good for the price. Moto g8 plus has bug which is you can’t connect to bluetooth devices when ur wifi is on.
Cheapy phone 😂
Shame the redmi note 9 pro camera is so badly placed.
Is this in order from worst to best? What’s the best one

Are these ranked in a particular order? I’d be surprised if there’s really 9 phones that are a better value than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro.
Note 9
pixel 3a has just one camera, isn’t it weird where as others have 4 or cameras like realme 6? I am confused realme 6(actually 6i) or pixel 3a

Hello! Do you think Redmi Note 9 Pro is better than P40 lite?
i kept watching because of bojack horseman 🖤🖤
budget is tighter than nut’s bum hole ?? :D:DD
Just bought the note 9 pro, thanks to your reviews on it I’m really happy with my purchase. Great job!
Hi I’m in Gloucester UK and needing a new phone. I am enjoying your reviews, only you don’t mention sound pick-up quality, unless I missed it. I need to find the best budget mobile (approx 200 smackers) that will record home vids of guitar and vocals. Sound & playback quality being as (if not more important than picture quality. Also I want to be able to mount it on my telescope stand to take pictures of space and wildlife. 🤔. Any ideas which would be the better phone for me? Your advice would be much appreciated please. I need one asap so a speedy reply would be most welcome.
