Consumer Cellular: More Data, Same Price (AT&T Smartphone Plans, Senior Discounts)

Consumer Cellular: More Data, Same Price (AT&T Smartphone Plans, Senior Discounts)

Consumer Cellular, an AT&T and T-Mobile MVNO, is adding more data to their current phone plans – at no extra cost to customers.

Consumer Cellular offers phone and tablet based plans with seniors being their target market.

Historically, Consumer Cellular has treated tethering/mobile hotspotting of data as a ‘gray area’. While their current Terms of Service prohibit tethering, several customer service representatives confirmed they can enable the personal mobile hotspot feature by request at no extra charge.

When you say you must enable mobile hotspot use, do you mean that you can add on an additional separate device – the hot spot – or that you can use your existing phone as a hot spot, or both? Not clear what I need to do if I’m just going to turn on my phone’s hot spot feature and run my computer internet access through it. (Thanks!)

Straight Talk is cheaper and has much better coverage. Not mentioning that makes me suspect that the "Mobile Internet Resource Center" is nothing more than an ad for Consumer Cellular.

For me Tracfone is cheaper, BUT I use very few minutes, and don’t need multiple handsets.

Have had CC for a couple of years. The minutes and data are a pool for all of your devices. Hotspot has never been a problem. CSR told me that hotspot is not enabled by default because you need to acknowledge that it comes from your pool of data so that you are aware. My phone has T-Mo sim. Only thing that doesn’t work correctly for me is wi-fi calling.

They are great for light callers. But they may only offer callerID number, no names. And they are, like all NVMO’s, the fourth and lowest priority on any network. That means when things are busy, registered first responders get service first. Postpaid contract customers, second. Prepaid monthly customers, third. And NVMO’s? Always are at the bottom of the food chain. All of them, not just Consumer Cellular, who seem to do a great job at a great price.

They are not a good deal for anyone. Carriers give seniors a better price for unlimited data.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the new Dish network partnership with ATT for mobile internet – gotW3.

So is there anywhere on their website that you can put in your zipcode and find out if you’ll get AT&T ot T-Mobile beforehand ? or do you not find out until after you sign up ?
