Hackintosh Guide 2020: Hardware

Hackintosh Guide 2020: Hardware

This is part one of a series of video guides about Hackintoshing.

My Build :

Mobo: Gigabyte Z390 Designare

CPU: Core i9 9900k

GPU: Red Devil RX 5700 XT 8G GDDR6

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB x2 = 32GB [ upgrading to 64GB soon for 3D modeling ]

SSD: Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 1TB M2 x2 [ one for Windows / one for Mac OS ]

PSU:Cooler Master V750

Monitor: MSI MAG322QVR 1440p 144hz curved [ adding a 32inch 4k color accurate monitor soon, researching … ]

Speakers: Logitech G560 lightsync gaming speakers

Others: Corsair Essential Gaming Bundle [ keyboard/Mouse/Headset]

What is Working ?

Almost everything except bluetooth/wifi but I’m using ethernet so not a big deal for me [ some people on the other forums reported success with the bluetooth module, however the Intel Wifi is simply not compatible with Mac OS]. I plan on getting the Broadcom Module that CaseySJ mentioned in this guide on Tonymacx86 and then test again.

Dual Gigabit Ethernet [ one port is natively supported by Mac OS, the other one needs intelmausi.kext ]

All USB ports working [ not tested actual speeds ]

Internal Case USB hub [ Lian Li PC-O11DW 011 Dynamic Case ] working.

Audio working fine USB and 3.5mm jack [output/input].

I didn’t try Thunderbolt 3 since I don’t have any devices around to test it out but it seems ok from the PCI system information [ other users already reported it to be 100% working on this motherboard ]

Sleep and wake is still hit or miss [ sometimes I get no signal and I have to force reboot]. I’m trying to figure out how I can solve it but not so urgent for me since I tend to work long hours on my Desktop and always have something processing in the background.

iCloud is synced and working fine.

I don’t use iMessage [ I live in Vietnam and iMessage is pretty much a US service ].

Other Apple features like Airdrop/Handoff are not tested yet [ will update this post soon although I don’t need them since iCloud syncs all my stuff with this hackintosh]

You say wifi did not work. But what if I add an external wifi card? Or are you just saying the built in wifi controller does not work?
    Thanks

Very interested in following this because you said before you had no performance issues and I’m assuming the availability and pricing of gear in Vietnam will be similar to here in Bangkok.

Which case / tower are you using?

What did you mean by "Audio working fine USB and 3.5mm jack [output/input]"? I was able to make sound work but sounds terrible compared to music quality from dual-booting Windows on the same computer. I connected a DAC to the optical port hoping to improve the sound but then I could not make that output source work. Everything else works except sleep and wake same as you. Thanks great video, looking forward to Part II!

May I use Nvidia GPU for Hackintosh?

  17. Abhinav M on January 27, 2021 at 8:58 pm

Hey, I’m building a budget hackintosh, and I wasn’t sure which cpu to pick, I want to dualboot with windows and use it for light gaming(fortnite at 720-1080p at 50-60 fps) and video editing, since GPUs are expensive, and the cheap ones suck l, I want to use intel integrated graphics. Would you recommend I go with a i3 10th gen, or i5 9th gen, and how much better is the i5 10th gen than the i5 9th gen? And also should I stay away from b series motherboards? Because I didn’t see them on any recommended builds… also is it worth using a cheap cpu like the i3 9th gen etc. It would also be cool if you could make a video explaining how exactly intel CPUs differ and if an old i5, with say less ghz would perform better than a later more powerful i3 and what exactly you can do with it. I couldn’t find anything online so o thought I would ask you 🙂 I’m a big fan and I would really appreciate it 🙂
