Best £400 Smartphones Reviewed (Summer 2020) | Forget flagships…

Reviews of the best smartphones you can buy in 2020 for under £400, if your budget won’t stretch to those expensive flagship phones. These are my favourite mid-range Androids right now, featuring the greatest camera tech, speediest performance, impressive battery life and beyond.

My pick of the best £400 budget mobiles includes the Sony Xperia 10 ii, Oppo Find X2 Lite, Reno 2, Pixel 3a, Huawei Nova 5T and Motorola One Hyper. Of course, lots of other great mid-rangers are yet to launch here in 2020, including the Pixel 4a, OnePlus Nord and more. I’m also keenly waiting to review the Motorola Moto G 5G Plus, which delivers a quad lens camera, Snapdragon 765 performance and 5000mAh battery from 300 to 350 quid.

I’ve fully reviewed each of the smartphones mentioned in this round-up, so go check out those videos for all you need to know. But here’s a quick summary of why I love each handset, from the clever stress-free camera tech to the feature-packed UI and dependable all-day battery performance. I’ve also published my pick of the best sub-£300 and £200 mobiles if your budget is even tighter.

Sorry but i disagree , if you’re buying a smartphone with a battery under 5000 mah in 2020 you’re being duped. The worst think is a dying battery when you need your phone, when you’re away from home, when you need to make a call or look something up etc. That’s the most important think when considering buying a phone,no matter if that phone is buget/mid or high end,the fast charging it’s useless when you’re away.
If i would buy something that delivers the right value for money i would rather choose from Xiaomi,a company that i used before and never had an issue.
You can for exemple one redmi note 9s and a pocophone x3(with or without the NFC) for the £400 buget you suggested and i think you will be way more satisfied by doing so.

Great Channel! About to upgrade my blower, Oppo Reno 2 or Google Pixel 3a XL what do you think? is 64gb storage on the 3a xl enough for every day pics, and apps etc? Cheers. Greg

  21. Takumi Fujiwara on January 11, 2021 at 2:31 am

ive seen brand new oneplus 7 pro 5Gs go for around 400, imo they are better because they have a more premium feel, high refresh rate panels and that clean oxygen OS. Snapdragon 855 is still very good in 2020 going on to 2021 i think

Huawei P30 now at £399 on UK store (£189 off), in my humble view, easily the best deal right now – about to order as smaller backup to my P30 Pro 😃

  27. Courtney selous on January 11, 2021 at 2:42 am

Hard to understand your accent and since you dont write the phone names i dont even know what phone you are talking about!!

  28. Rj on January 11, 2021 at 2:44 am

Samsung 10 lite is good as well.If we can overlook the fact that it doesn’t have an headphone Jack and the usefulness of the macro camera, then it’s really a good buy ,especially the Snapdragon version .

  37. luce tothebridge on January 11, 2021 at 2:52 am

Just forget them all (or throw them to the rubbish bin) and get the LG G8s thinQ for around €350 now. No contest .. period

  38. danny on January 11, 2021 at 2:53 am

Thanks for these reviews. Just wish to say that there are a few other reasons other than limited budget for buying a "non-flagship" phone. Personally I dont want to put £800 of my money into a phone that I go wafting around that might get smashed, nicked or drowned. I need to view the internet, buy stuff, banking, watch your vids (or similar), message, twitter, sometimes even phone (yes speak). I dont need the crispest sound, the cleanest image, the fastest operability ever known to man in this gadget. All I need can be had quite well without spending the ludicrous amounts the manufacturers want us to. I can use the remaining £400+ to buy something else.

Those prices for Oppo is crazy! It seems we are at a disparity here in Sweden and much dearer which usually isn’t the case with other phones, so if you’d like to do some grey market import: Please! Go right ahead!
A quick check on Price Spy Sweden (Prisjakt.nu) gives these prices:
The Oppo Find X2 Lite is 6,005 SEK or changed to UK prices: £518 GBP

The full Oppo Find X2 is 10,072 SEK or £870 GBP

    Oppo Find X2 Pro (12 GB/256GB) is a whopping 17,231 SEK OR £1489 GBP
    (!!!)

While the older Oppo Reno 2 still goes for 4294 SEK or £ 380 GBP
The even older Reno (no number) (6GB Ram/256 GB storage) is still £363 GBP

So, if you can send them over and make a buck, we would be grateful! It seems most vendors here are from other countries who take the opportunity to make a buck as there is no one selling the brand here.
