My microwave doesn’t even have a clock. I moved in with my roommate not too long ago. She actually has no clocks in her kitchen and it kinda freaks me out

"Bricked in 3 years when the startup behind it inevitably folds" – or when AWS goes down for whatever reason and you now can’t:
    1. Vacuum your house
    2. Unlock your front door
    3. Pop any microwave popping corn

I, for one, look forward to the litany of opinions on which of these "should _never_ be cooked in a microwave."

  5. Václav Jebavý on January 4, 2021 at 2:03 am

Any microwave made after 1997 can’t cook, all it know is hot pocket, defrost they leftover, burn hot chip and

    BWWWWRRRR
    BEEP
    BEEP
    BEEEEP

    jesus christ this was dumb

My parents had an older, somewhat more basic Sharp Carousel microwave that had the programmed functions on dedicated buttons like most modern ones. And they always worked really really well, too. That thing also lasted for freaking ever. I think they got it in the late 80s or maybe early 90s, and gave up the ghost in like 2015 or so.

I had a thomson TV that had a bass speaker placement on top and, of course, it was quite old so it died and i dissasembled it to harvest the speakers and got fascinated that it had a P.C. motherboard plugin and cutouts for USB, also, the speakers have channels to make the sound deeper, it also had an equalizer in menu, so you can adjust the sound to make it sound perfect, with ability to make your own preset, it was great for low signal programs, cause you can lower certain frequencies to shoosh the lowest quality picked frequencies and you can hear it clearly, that thing still makes me itch, cause the TV itself was able to become a freaking PC, with the glass tube screen size of a more modern LCD and at the time it was produced pentium 3 was just released, so its quite amazing piece of technology

We say "Look what we made."
They say "Brilliant, excellent, amazing, useful".
We say "Yahoo, we did it".
They say "Can we make it cheaper, less functional, be less robust, noisier, more difficult to use, have a higher profit margin"?

  17. rodhoutx on January 4, 2021 at 2:17 am

This video is so true! The microwaves we had in the 80’s had the sensor options and usually came with the temperature probe you could stick into water or other things to heat things to a specific temperature. The leftover reheat function and popcorn button worked great, and it did as you said. It ran for about a minute and then turned on the magnetron. The microwave I have now has an "Auto Cook", but no sensor, so you have to look at the chart in the door and tell it what you’re cooking, which is just a pre-programmed time!

Still using the Sears-Kenmore over the range microwave/vent hood that was put in when the house was built in 1981ish. Love how it has silk screen painted fake wood surrounding the buttons.

  24. Gadjet Griller on January 4, 2021 at 2:26 am

Well embarrassingly I have that whirlpool microwave. I didn’t pay that much for it but I did pay a lot. 1st off the scan does not work (the main reason I bought it) even if it did most of the stuff I buy (IE the cheap stuff) does not read. It will not stay connected to the wifi?? Bad purchase all the way around.

  25. Kernelpickle on January 4, 2021 at 2:27 am

What would be kinda neat is if they had a camera to do AI image recognition of what you were putting into the microwave, and then based on the type of food, weight and all that moisture sensor stuff (and maybe a thermal camera to determine the temperature, it could cook everything until it had reached it’s bland perfection. I guess you could even have it scan the package for packaged foods, but for reheating leftovers, it would be neat if it could tell. Maybe even send you an email with a follow up survey to see if everything was to your liking, and if it wasn’t it could take your feedback and do it the way you like it the next time.

Sure, you could just learn how to operate the fucking thing, but why bother when you can produce copious amounts of data that corporations and study and/or sell for profit?!

It should also come pre-installed with a zombie client, so you can just link up to the botnet immediately, and help DDoS whatever corporate dickbags are deserving of it that week.

U don’t understand this is purely a Japanese phenomenon…….it’s not microwaves were better everywhere in the 70s…..but the Japanese took their electronics to a whole new level.

We can’t have nice things because, honestly, most people will ignore them and just hit the quick minute a few times and walk away.

  43. Robert Bennett on January 4, 2021 at 2:49 am

HEY! I have one of those in black. I actually repainted the interior last year (I used paint designed for microwave ovens so shush safety warriors).
The apple crumble is easy and really good too.

I tried to find anything nearly as good,
The only one I ever considered close was my family’s old commercial Radar Range that bastard was simple but basically like sticking a hot dog in front of a microwave relay tower.

Few minutes in and my slim microwave got lit up haha. I actually needed it for my old kitchen cabinets, no room

  47. Lucianna Osucha on January 4, 2021 at 2:55 am

    As per my luck, there are more modern (vastly inferior) versions of the "sharp carousel" making it difficult to find, at least on a cursory glance ;w;

I only want two wheels, one for time and one for power level.

  50. QGG639 on January 4, 2021 at 3:00 am

A few of these showed up in our new office building just a few years ago. People look at me odd when I use sensor reheat, like they have never seen such a basic function before.
