The senior I’m shopping for is overwhelmed by her iphone. She does NOT want to learn how to use it. At 86 yoa she’s entitled to have a simpler phone. Guess I’ll go elsewhere for recommendations.
My mom has a flip phone
I’m 66 and retired 2 years ago from Verizon Corporate. The clients I had were Fed Govt agency’s all agencies had cellular service plus other non-cellular service. What I loved doing is going to cellular kiosks at Costco and have fun with them. Once they realized I knew more than them about cellular service they’d walk away. I loved yanking the chain.
too much talk, too little ‘show’ or demo on the products itself
this was a massive advert for apple… i hate apple it has caused me to waste far too much time when both of my grandparents lock themselves out of their iphones because iphone is ott on security
They spent most of the time denying that many seniors struggle with smart phones and denying this problem exist and these guys don’t even accept there is a problem, so what are they doing on this video and no help at all
I totally agree at age 70-years. I had a little trouble at first jumping into iPhones. Today I have the 7-iPhone. Few things that were not stated. Once setup presses the side button 5-times to call 911 and alerts 5- programed in friends to your emergency. If in an accident and unable to tale the emergency crews that responded know how to hit while on lock screen 911 then MEDICAL ID, showing all my medical information and names and a number of doctors, family and others. And I never had to say a word. My only real back step is all the new terminology. Lots more but I forget stuff.

Sorry these guys don’t know what they are talking about hello they are far from old. Seniors DON’T like using smartphones they cant understand how they work. My 83 year old mom can figure out how to shut youtube down or skip the ads or check her voice mail. And Mom hated her iphone. Sound like they like apple note the laptops being used no thanks .
i think you are great.i am a senior & need alot of help. first. i have to I, phones that were given to me by my daughter, 1 christmas present as a gift & i really love it 2nd i received my daughters phone which is ani i 11, my daughter passed in march so now i have her I phone 11. the trouble is they are both locked. i have tried to contact ATT.with no help.sent them the doc,s they required from me .i am unable to get these phones unlocked so i can get them conceted to a goo service plan.i dont know what to do,i am sorry this is so long. Any recommendations for seniors who do not have internet access? I’m looking at getting my mom a phone to replace her old flip phone. This past weekend she pulled out an add for the Jitterbug phone. There’s the flip phone, which I agree is terrible and there is a "Smartphone" option now as well that I’m not sure about. Would an iPhone still be the way to go even if she doesn’t have internet service at the house? Thanks in advance.

I can’t afford an I phone, so that’s out. If I could that is what I buy. And I’m only 63, not ancient but the new phones are a mystery to me. Anything else you can suggest. I have a Motorola E5 right now & the camera SUCKS. I need a decent camera.
great info guys. As a senior I have owned 3 iPhones and have a 7 now through Verizon for only $5 a month, great deal.
This video totally misses the point. Most seniors JUST WANT TO MAKE A PHONE CALL. Not update apps, download security patches, listen to spotify, charge their phone everyday, pay extra for data, have notifications all over the place, etc.
I’m sorry. Maybe this was specific towards seniors with no disabilities or ones that may not impede in the use of any phone but again maybe you have a video already on what I’m looking for?

Its amazing… you two completely don’t understand the struggle that elderly have w/smart phones.
You two are looking though only your own minds eye and *NOT* the viewpoint of those who your trying to appeal to.
If we were to reverse the rolls… lets put you in front of an old school stamping die, screw machine, lathe, ect.. and with *only someone talking at you for 5 minutes* … GO and make parts. You would feel completely inadequate, overwhelmed, and not have a clue once you got to the first previously unexplained hurdle.

SO glad to hear your attitude. I didn’t know I was so fearful, afraid of change and confused until I watched those “J” ads. And as someone so aptly put it, our generation actually created those computers we are supposedly so afraid of! I’m 71 and 30 years ago wrote a book for attorneys on how to practice law using their computers, also created a software program for judges to access jury instructions (instead of paging through 3-ring binders of preprinted text). So YES I am very well versed on what computers/phones can do. Appreciate the respect. I was bursting to make my comment *right now* and now I”ll get back to your show. My biggest hurdle is cost vs features. Hope you’ll address that. Thanks guys, you’re great (but please stop wearing those nerdy sweatshirts)!

I totally agree with you about the Jitterbug. I got one and sent it back the next week. A TERRIBLE phone in so many ways.
My MOM is 88 & has a flip phone that no longer works. She’s not interested in learning how to use a smart phone because she can’t see well for starters so the buttons are better for her, she tries to use my Iphone & it’s too touch sensitive & she’s always hitting the wrong buttons, then she gets all upset & can’t do anything after that. It’s just too much for someone her age……she’s familiar with flip phones so I’m getting her a Jitterbug or a Verizon flip phone because thats what’s best for her….Your not taking all the physical & mental challenges seniors face, such as sight & hearing to mental confusion( when they make mistakes with new technology). Mom just wants to make calls, that’s it…..flip phones do a wonderful service for seniors. Thanks for your Commentary though.
Personally, I think you need to go over a phone that gives YouTube, camera and Google. That’s really all a lot of people need anyway.

i got a refurbished LG v30 for $100 on amazon… better specs than any entry level phone from tmobile… and you can customize the GUI for freeeeeeeeeeeeee. easy

Having given my senior a smart phone I can attest that yes, they CAN be tripped up by all the bells and whistles. Bad advice.

I probably would get a smart phone but I have no family to pass one down to me or show me how to use it. I’m by myself. I still do my taxes on paper too for the same reason. I can’t just call someone and ask a dumb question or have them sit beside me and help me.

There is all kind of people and, yes there are seniors that want something very simple and easy. One is my father. I was hoping to get a list of the best phones and most easy to handle. ( thank you for mentioning the worse phones and why)

I’m super glad this video Was presented because I fully agree with every word they said and that was my opinion before I watched the video but I just wanted to be sure. My mom recently had a flip phone and not only did it break in half she had to try to hold the two pieces together, but it didn’t last a year and it was so hard for her to use! She could never figure out how to use it and not once could she ever figure out how to get a text message! I had a hard time figuring out how to use her phone and I’m very smart on computers and technology! I fully agree with everything they said! My recommendation for my mom or any senior is the iPhone even before I watched this video. I got my mom an iPad and she does very well with it and it’s the same thing as an iPhone without the calling capabilities, so I’m getting her an iPhone just like I thought going into the video and this just confirmed everything! All the points they had made were exactly right and I’m really glad I watched the video and it was a good use of 10 minutes of my day! I appreciate you guys informing people and please take my advice, I have a senior that used both flip iPhone and iPhone is the way to go. By the way, androids are hard to use for anyone, and I know they made an android recommendation but androids are very hard for most people to use. I would stick with the iPhone it’s super easy, you hit the home button and you’re back to the beginning, just like they said! You will be making the very best decision with iPhone XR so iPhone all the way baby! Thank you for the video!
Why don’t these reviews have actual seniors reviewing these phones? I can guarantee that my most of the seniors I know don’t give too hoots how many megapixels the phone has they just care that they can easily use the phone and make a call when they really need it

Listen to the recommendations you are making for phones…… you are still making assumptions about seniors by thinking the phones need to be cheap. We are just people, but older, and cover the range of wealth just like younger people. The issue I have using phone is it is hard for me to text using the tiny keys. part of this is because I am 6′ 4" and 220 lbs, have large hands, and need glasses for near sight. My next phone will be a LG phone with the second screen option so I can set it up to use one entire screen for texting keyboard, and the large size screens will be nice for my eyes also. The LG is still fully featured and will do anything a person could want.
