Vintage Appliances We Need!
Over the years there have been many appliances and household items that have come and gone. Some of them were good while others weren’t so much. In this video we will take a look at some of the vintage appliances we could still use.

I remember most all of these items
At work we had the refrigerator , 2 eyed stove and sink combination. They were installed in our control rooms to save space.they were installed in the early 1970’s. They lasted probably over 20 years with daily use. They were only replaced when the control room kitchens were updated in the 1990’s
I had something like that fridge/stove/sink combo in my dorm at Portland State University. This was around 2011, but I imagine the building was built in the 50s or so.
Those salad driers are still pretty commonly in use in Germany 😃
When you were talking about the can opener I think you meant ruin your knives with a nails on a chalkboard tier sound.
There are still “flame guns” or flame throwers, as they’re called where I live.
My Aunt had the retractable stove with the 2 sided oven on top. I used it many times.
I always thought it was so cool.
That wall fridge is an awesome idea
I’ve still got my orange salad spinner I inherited from an old friend and it’s still in use
I would love if some of these came back. I know recently I have seen the portable dishwasher that sits on the counter. Also I would love if refrigerators came with different colors than the basic colors.
Our old house had a retractable stove top with the two ovens on top. I was so convenient and worked better than any electric stove I had ever used.
We own a combination electric can opener and knife sharpener that we bought at the thrift store- absolutely DESTROYS knives. After using it, the edge is all pitted and jagged
Those wall mount fridges died out as construction got cheaper. Used to be, interior walls were lathe and plaster, and if you tried to kick through one you’d break something in your foot. Now, EXTERIOR walls are sheet rock, vapor barrier, insulation, quarter inch thick MDF sheathing, more VB and vinyl- you can kick a hole through it. If you tried such a fridge today, it would break your house, they just don’t make them like they used to.
My mom still has that orange salad spinner. And at 6:45 that’s a gourmet grill. Dutch people still use it to have a fun dinner. The table would be filled with little things you can put on the grill plate. Like different types of meat and veggies. Everyone around the table makes their own dinner little by little. It’s a fun interactive way of having dinner with family/guests.
Ukraine needs those flame guns
Most of these look absolutely amazing. I suppose each appliance had a set of problems that ultimately rendered it obsolete, but this look back was fascinating none the less. Thank you for it.
I used a flamethrower on my sidewalk last winter. Neighbors were not impressed
I rented a place that had stovetop electric burners that could be pushed back into the countertop
I did have the sink, fridge unit in the mid 1980’s in my studio apt in Wentzville, Mo.
7:33 this was a wonderful multi purpose tool I’m sure
Have seen many of those combo sink / stove / fridge deals but it’s been a while. Mosly in small apartments, firehouses, and break rooms.
I want one of those bewitched ovens
Most of these are niche therefor “cool” but the wall refrigerator looks like the bees knees.
Oh those colorful fridges! My mother wanted one but we couldn’t afford it, so she covered ours with bright orange/brown scalloped patterned contact paper.
Sign me up for the flame thrower, I mean snow melter
Electric can openers never worked all that well. Their poor quality and unreliability is what killed them. Also, it doesn’t help that opening a can isn’t exactly difficult, complicated or time consuming.
Salad spinners, crock-pots, ice crushers and counter-top dish washers still exist and are very common… Me ans my family bought all of them relatively recently (5 years or less) and Isee them in every shop… Also, for colorful refrigerators there are vinyl adhesives that you can buy and put on yourself.
The quest for all in one appliances always ends in disappointment.
I want the TV bar console
Was wondering if this video was satire until I saw the flamethrower… Haha 😂 a flamethrower can’t be used to remove snow, as any Norwegian know, it takes too much energy to do the phase change from solid to liquid, that if you try to use the flamethrower it will just put sot on the snow rather than melt it. It’s a reason why we use ice to keep our drinks cold
You couldn’t pay me to have another GE appliance.
I love the eye-level fridge/freezer!
That can opener looks like it could take your finger off 😂
Some of these are still common today, instead of a drawer you can pull individual induction hobs out of the cabinet, countertop dishwashers are still popular (new models use a reservoir like a keurig instead of having to screw it into the faucet head each time you use it!), many modern salad spinners are also in bright colors.
The idea of a fridge as an upper cabinet is great so you could have counter space through your fridge area though!
This was such a cool video! I am definitely going to go check out your other videos 🙂
I love all theses ideas there convenience are still needed to day….the wall frigde, the oven draw..the grilled plate …even the hand ice maker…..so many good handy ideas .
Reminds me of my grandmas kitchen ❤️
They still have the combo range, sink, fridge it’s around $1800+ though
I remember seeing a salad spinner as late as the 1970s when I was growing up
Most of these were a super wast and looed to be a pain to clean up..and the snow flame thrower look like a major fore hazard and extremely dangerous
Fun video! I love the wall-mounted refrigerator. The problem with any modern version would be the trouble of mounting something so heavy and complex that would, inevitably, need to be replaced every few years. Modern appliances, even from the few remaining recognizable brands, seem, for the most part, to fail in two to four years. This is certainly true for smaller devices, like dehumidifiers and dishwashers, but even modern behemoth fridges from Samsung, Whirlpool, LG and Bosch that cost many thousands too often fail after just a few years. So a gorgeous wall-mounted fridge, doubtless requiring some careful thought and significant effort to install, becomes twice the problem of the standard floor-standing refrigerator to remove, repair, or replace.
All that said, I’d still buy it. What a great idea.
We all need a flamethrower in our lives 😂
It’s crazy how big old kitchens were. Appliances/ sink were 6 ft away from each other. The cheaper by the dozen parents invented the modern efficiency kitchenette and actually counted how many steps it took to cook and then clean up
My apartment has a dishwasher installed. My brothers house does not and he has a modern version of the mini dishwasher right now.
I remember my mom’s electric can opener also crushed ice
As a Wisconsin resident living in the country. I would love that flame thrower for snow shoveling 😂😂😂
The all in one kitchen was in every branch of a bank I worked at. They all had the cooktop, sink and fridge. One branch’s even had an oven too! Many of these do need to make a comeback, especially the washing machine/dishwasher!
ok, the flamethrower snow remover really gave me a chuckle. Can you imagine the reaction of your very modern neighbors seeing someone using a flamethrower to do this?
My house still has the 50s electric stove/oven. I had my 1936 kitchen renovated but insisted on keeping the beautiful vintage appliance.
So true! Our washer/dryer is 50 years old, and still works like a charm. No electronics to go funky. The very rare repairs are easy.
